Alexis Sanchez | Udinese: No Deal Yet

Yeah but again- Gibson is what, 3rd or fourth choice for the left? You don't bring in a player of Samchez's calibre because he is better than your 8th choice winger or something.

Yeah, agreed - but who knows what role SAF has in mind for Sanchez? In Europe, with his pace and flair it's almost a perfect counter-attacking set-up becomes available.

Nani/Sanchez-----Sanchez/Nani
------------Rooney------------

Atleast until Valencia is settled back into his usual fantastic form.

EDIT: My mistake

Nani/Samchez----Samchez/Nani
----------Rooney--------------

Can we afford Samchez?!

We need all the muppets on the forum in this thread. We can make this bigger than the Ozil one!

Scholes to retire? :[

I'm not saying he will come straight back and perform to his best- but he will be fully fit sooner or later, and then what? If we bought a new player every time we had a serious injury we have a squad larger than the populace of greater Manchester. When Valencia does come back, we will have himself, Nani and Park playing for the two wing positions and Giggs as a fourth choice if need be. Neither Nani or Valencia deserve to be dropped, and Park has proven time and again he is good enough to be third choice.

And we have enough talented young strikers without adding another. I just honestly don't think he is the player we need, and can't see us going for him

We don't know how long he will take to get back to his best - and assuming the worst, that he takes quite a while - then we'll be down to three wingers. Giggs will not be around forever and shouldn't really be someone that we are relying on - and I think he'll retire at the end of this or next season. So if we gave Sanchez time to adapt to the PL and our players, it'll be great to promote from within. I think that Sanchez has more ability than Park and would give pretty strong competition to Valencia - but there isn't anything wrong with that. I'm sure SAF would know the ramifications of this signing.

That said, I do sort of agree with you - our priority should be central midfield. That is probably the weakest part of our team, and our wings are not as bad in comparison.

I'm in this thread now.

TransferMonkey Alexis Sanchez to Man Utd news will be officially announced tomorrow if all parties can agree terms. Player seems keen on the deal

Sanchez can play AM.

That doesn't help with our centre mid 'problem', though. He'd be up against Park/Giggs/Berbatov/Rooney for that central role, which like the wings isn't really a priority.

You lot are deluded.

Keep the faith.

I'm not getting anything off the Italian sites, so with no denial means this is obviously true.

"Major" story from The Guardian within the hour. Just spoken to Man Utd who say it's a mystery to them. So rule out takeover / S AF retires

So go away.

People seem to have differing opnions of what we need for a midfielder though. Playmaker? Interceptor? Box to box?

Ian Prior 'Ok, small clue. Big transfer story and not Man Utd being sold'. We've got 20 minutes to get our Muppet on.

'tis true but we know that Sanchez isn't any of them, right? When he's played centrally he's still an attacker not a midfielder - he's the closest player to the striker, he's playing in front of 5 midfielders (3 centre mids) and he plays with attacking freedom.

I'm here my underlings. Gazetto Del Radio.

When he plays centrally he plays with 2 center mids behind him the times I've seen him play that role.

If we got him though he'd be ideal on one side with Nani on the other as it would give us great movement and versatility in our front line supporting Rooney and especially Berbatov who likes to link, the way we have seen recently with Giggs and Nani.

Really? Don't they play 352? Inler, Pinzi and Asamoah all in the centre?

Actually I think you could be right, I was thinking of Isla as a winger but it's the 2 wing backs that give the width with Sanchez off Di Natale.

Still I'd have little doubt Sanchez could play in our system off Rooney or Berbatov with a 2 man combination of Fletcher/Carrick/Scholes in behind him if need be, he's a worker.

So the guardians big announcement was that inter Milan are going to (possibly) bid £40 million in the summer for Bale. WTF? How is that a "big" announcement?

I think we have to sign him and let him stay there till the summer. Switching teams, countries and leagues in the middle of the season might not always work. He needs time to settle in and if he is not performing well, then that might affect him in a bad way. Hence coming here in the summer would be a better option for both parties. We will have Park and Valencia back soon anyway.

Aren't we meant to be signing him today? Twitter told me we were.
