Alexis Sanchez | Udinese: No Deal Yet

Why everyone thinks he's going to be a great player there?

Have you forgotten Ibrahimovic?

Youth over Modric? (forget the price)

yup Modric for all the love of everyone hasn't destroyed us or our midfield so he isn't what we need, neither is Sneijder. Where as a developing Pogba, Morrison, Tunnincliffe etc gives me ideas of what they can bring. The only gutting thing out of this Sanchez saga is that the 3 best flair players will now ply their trade in Spain, and all the other up and comers dream of playing there, we need to create our own. Here's to the upcoming Spainish financial crisis.

Ozil 2011. He will be immense for them. I am distraught. He's that good.

I think I might be the first muppet suicide victim of the year, it's going to be a long and cold night.

We have 2 quality wingers and some brilliant strikers. Not sure why people are worrying when Sanchez wouldnt fix the problem we have.

I tend to agree with this. Would have been a nice position to be in with another matchwinner in the squad, but never seemed essential. Glad he didn't go to City as well.

Is a good point.

I think even David Villa has looked below his own standards for Barca, though he's still excellent. Playing along the frontline for Barca means being more restricted since Messi is clearly the main man. I think Pedro works very well in this respect because his game contrasts with Messi's quite well, but Villa would probably prefer to have the licence to wander a bit more than he does.

Stacking the team up with galacticos hasn't always worked out to make Madrid the world superpower they've wanted to be, so it's no forgone conclusion that it will help Barca either. Sometimes it just turns out that a 'lesser' player is a better fit.

I think Pedro deserves his place anyway. Unnecessary signing for Barca tbh.

From the bleacher report if anyone i interested
The most talked-about transfer of the summer so far, and perhaps the one that will set the tone for the rest of the transfer window, swung in Manchester City's direction tonight.

Alexis Sanchez, the sought-after Chilean winger, had been widely tipped over the last 24 hours to have decided on a move to Barcelona, but his club, Udinese, received a staggering and game-changing bid of £40m from Manchester City earlier today.

Barcelona immediately refused to match the fee, and the player has been told by Udinese President Franco Soldati that he would now be moving to Manchester.

The deal will be signed tomorrow, Monday, with a medical examination having already been conducted by both Barcelona and Manchester City in South America.

It now seems clear that Manchester City are going to use their financial muscle to get the players they want with a bid for Sergio Aguero also now in the pipeline.

More to follow..

I doubt that's true really. Not anywhere on Twitter either and none of the papers/radio stations carrying that story.

Of course it's not true, it's from the bleacher report, but until Sanchez signs that piece of paper I will still bring in all the muppetry........ until the bitter end.

Well, it is on Twitter, but for once to admit it's a wum -

@TheRealFbloke - @MancPhil £40m bid from City accepted - its a fake story of mine to prove how easy it is to get news picked up ;-)

'kin hell, it would be disgustingly unfair if Barcelona got Sanchez.

Borgi (coach CHL): "Sanchez will only travel if a deal is done. I prefer him to sign before the Copa America, so he can focus."

If only he could have mentioned Barca and ended it.

For all those crying over Sanchez. You all do know that he's not half as productive as Nani right? Yes there's a two year age difference but there's nothing to guarantee that Sanchez will turn his potential into end product.

Our options on the wing are as good as anyone's right now. So I don't see why everyone's so obsessed with Sanchez. It won't be the first time we've missed out on a player with huge potential and it certainly won't be the last.

Its scary that this thread has got over 4,000 posts.

Why, it's the largest transfer saga of the summer so far and one we've been involved in and it's in the transfers thread. Nothing scary at all.

Starting to go through the news sites now, £33 million.

Its scary because until recently there had been no reports of us actually making a bid. Only quotes from SAF that we had monitored him but we do that with many talented players. This thread has thousands more posts than threads about our current players. The muppets' desperation would be understandable if the position that Sanchez played in wasn't one that we're already well stocked in.

How will he fit into their system? I suppose he'll play as a wide forward. Is he a good finisher?

Are you conparing him to Ozil in terms of the impact he'll have? Or in terms of ability? Big call if it's the latter.

Personally I haven't seen enough of him to be able to comfortably comment, but I'd question whether or not he has the same quality in his end-product to compare favourably to Ozil.

I'd guess he'd take Pedro's position. Front three of: Villa-Messi-Sanchez is damn good but Pedro fit their system like a glove and was highly productive. So it'll be interesting to see if Sanchez can play himself into being first choice. Barca lack strenght in depth, so signing Sanchez makes sense.

Yes it would have thousand more posts in it than our current players because it's in the transfer forum. Where as our current players tend to have threads made for them and forgotten about every game. This thread was started over a year ago.

He's the type of player who don't come around very often. You make room in your squad for them, losing out on him is disappointing but a recent trade with the big names lately.

Onwards and upwards.

Sounds a LOT like Ronaldo there, to me. And there was nothing to suggest that he would turn it into scoreboard pressure either, aside from his (their) talent, that is.

It's summer. Threads like this will obviously be the most active ones on the Caf. Nothing scary or surprising at all really.

It seems we just can't seem to secure the top talents in Europe... ever. We got Hernandez but that's because no one else was after him.

Very disappointing but we move on.

This summer, I can't see us getting the star signing we've been yearning for since Ronaldo left.

The thing is, he probably would never have become that player without the shenanigans of the 2006 World Cup. That focused him into being the best he could be, without that he probably would be at Madrid, but more along the lines of what Robinho was for them, than what he is now.

Whats more, Guardiola hasnt shown anything like the capacity to replicate what he did with the La Masia graduates, to the players he buys. I really do think this will be a Zlatan MkII, only worse because with Zlatan you could see the need for him. Sanchez doesnt ostensibly look like he could add to the dynamic in any of the front three positions. He dribbles extremely well, yes. But the rest of his game isnt on par with either Villa (Finishing, and general movement) nor Pedro (intelligence, cunning, vision), and he is nowhere near on par with Messi. He is an outstanding prospect but at the moment, that is what he is. He certainly wont instantly take up a starting position for Barca, despite his price. Just look at Chyrgrynsky who cost 25m and almost immediately sent back to Shakhtar...

Its a strange move for both Barca and Sanchez IMHO. They have a need for midfield reinforcement as Xavi realistically has 3 seasons left at the top. He already seems to be passing on the reigns to Messi in being the fulcrum of the side anyhow. Sanchez will not solve that. Fabregas will, and Rossi has the cunning to operate the Iniesta role perfectly, leaving Iniesta free to take up Xavi's mantle. Sanchez just seems like overkill.

We're at a geographical disadvantage, compared to other big clubs. This alone counts for a lot when major foreign players have options; even Chelsea, in London, have the advantage over us.

They'll get Fabregas though.

They will get Fabregas as well.

Extending the gigantic gulf between them and everyone else.

Got to admire the way they do it.
