Lennon > Sanchez. If only because he won't want to feck off to Spain the moment the big Spanish teams start sniffing around.

You seem to be making the same point with every latin player we are linked with and making grand assumptions with no basis.

What might or might not happen years later is irrelevant to who is the best possible addition to our squad at the present time. I don't care what nationality they are or who they used to watch or support as a kid.

Except we clearly would be buying these two with the future in mind, and so therefore what "might or might not happen years later" is important. If he'll want to bugger off to La Liga the moment he gets any good then we're shafted. We may have got 80 million smackaroos for Ronnie but we've still been left in the lurch with a gaping hole in our squad because he dreamt of Madrid. If that happens again with Sanchez then we're back to square one.

If we're truly only taking into account "who is the best possible addition to our squad at the present time" then, in fact, it's neither Sanchez nor Lennon. Sanchez isn't that good now, he's certainly not world class. If we're looking for instant gratification then we'd need to look elsewhere anyway. We obviously are buying with the future in mind, and so therefore I'd be happier if we bought the player far less likely to want to feck off in four years and no less talented to boot.

You have to accept that there are very few 'one club' players these days, and we got 6 great years of service from Ronaldo and an exceptional transfer fee at the end of it. I don't thinnk we've been left in the lurch at all, his departure is hardly unexpected and it gives SAF an opportunity to change the attacking emphasis of the team and a treasure chest to strengthen in a number of areas.

I've not seen Sanchez play, so can't comment other than redundant observations of youtube videos, but not many wingers thrive in Italy, especially at his age so he must have some talent.

He looks skilful but strange enough rather clumsy at the same time in the vids posted in this thread. Lots of those 'skills' involving himself stumbling over his own legs and the ball ricocheting around against opponents' feet before somehow getting it back and continuing the run. Rather underwhelming as far as youtube videos go.

You've made a lot of assumptions here (stupid ones, but I don't particularly want to get into a petty argument). I think we would all rather have a better player who (as you're clearly referring to Ronaldo) is at the forefront of one of the greatest ever eras in our history and becomes a great player for 6 or so years, can't expect every player we sign to play for us for life - don't see why some expect that at all, it would be nice but you've very naive if you expect that from players and would prioritise that over what's best for the club.

Also, I don't think we're back at "square one" now or that we've been left in the "lurch", we've won the league 3 years running and have won a Champions League as well as reaching 2 consecutive finals let alone everything else we've achieved which Ronaldo has been crucial to achieving and now we still have a great squad and have £80m in the bank to improve it and maybe revitalise the side and take it in a new direction. No need for the ignorance in dismissing Latin players or "foreigners" our of bitterness and there's no need for such pessimism either.

Manchester United Expected To Sign Sanchez

Manchester United are favourites to sign Chilean sensation Alexis Sanchez.

Fernando Felicevich, a representative of the player, has claimed talks are ongoing with United. The interest from other English clubs is expected to hurry the deal.

Felicevich said: "Yes, we have spoken to Manchester United, but not just to United. We have also held talks with other English teams. We are trying to do the transfer this summer."

The 20 year old moved to Udinese last summer and made 32 appearances for the "Bianconeri" this season, scoring three times.

Udinese will demand a fee in the region of £20million, which is expected to be paid over four years.

Known by the nickname- "Nino Maravilla" or "Wonder Kid", Sanchez is an integral part of Marcelo Bielsa's Chile team, who currently sit second in CONMEBOL qualifying.

would be better than Eto option...the guy is only 20 :)

£20million? You have to be kidding me. Nani is much better than him.

Did you have a frontal lobotomy?

Eto'o will replace the goals and pace that have left with Ronaldo

Eto is already on the downward slope of his career...I'm not saying he is done....but his pace will only go down from now....he still is a fine striker.

And I only mention Eto cause there was talk elsewhere he is the replacement for Ronaldo. SAF may still get him to replace Tevez for the short term, until Wellbeck and Macheda come of age...who knows. And he wont be that expensive...what a year more on his contract?

I like when media make a story about new Manchester United transfer, only after a few words:

"We have spoken to Manchester United, but not just to United."

He has great potential which clearly didn't showed at Udinese.

We have definitely more than £80m to spend. Why should we buy this average player?

I didn't watch Serie A last season, but after his stats I see he's not as good footballer as they say. He's a striker and scored only three goals and his last one was in February?

No way.

Played 1713 minutes, scored three goals. Really impressive.

And he hasn't played more than one season in one team yet.

Same quote being rehashed...

IMO it should be either him or Valencia, whichever price is 'right'. That should leave enough for maybe one big signing, and the rest will be kept in the chest. I don't think we'll spend £80m this summer, IMHO.

Yeah on PES his development curve has started going downwards

I take it that this is another one of those stats that lie about how good a player is.

You obviously have no idea... Ever seen him play???? He's a winger come striker and has played even more of a creative role for Udinese. The only down side to his game is that he's Lennons size.

As for the Nani comment.. I'd rather pay £20 pounds to get rid of another dirty portuGEZER! He's a waste of the 9 months of his mothers labour! And if you actually have seen Sanchez play and still think Nani is better.. You couldn't spot a pair of TITS in a strip joint!

I have seen him and his a really talented young player. Could become a great with SAF and United. We will see :)

I wrote that I didn't watch Serie A and I can only say about his stats.

You have to agree that they're shit.

I don't know, maybe he's a good footballer, I don't judge Sanchez, if don't watch any minute of him playing in Udinese. I don't want to watch him on YouTube, because it says nothing.

His stats are shit.

So are Carlitos' he is still loved on here, not that I am the biggest fan of signing either

I know Carlitos' stats are shit.

He has qualities to play better. Generally, he was poor this season, because he wasn't even 'an average Tevez'.

I won't cry if we don't sign him.

Sanchez was pretty poor in Italy. Stating that in Italy, the concept of attacking minded winger has yet to be understood. In fact I can't think of many attacking minded winger (who doesn't have a Tevez like workrate) who made an impact in the Serie A. Giovinco was thought to break the rule but till now he had failed (Juventus tried him on the flank and his season was nothing out of this world) while Mourinho believed that it would be able to utilise such system but had to revert to a different tactic which eliminated the use of the flanks.

scholes stats were shit this season, does not make him shit.

Judging a player off stats alone borders on being ridiculous Maciek.

You should check how many starts Sanchez has had in them matches, he regularly came off the bench because Udinese would usually start with Di Natale and Pepe playing off Quagliarella - Sanchez would often come off the bench and no he is not a striker whatsoever, never seen him play upfront. He'd usually be the attacking winger who would provide the goals, looked a good player whenever I've seen him.
