Imagine we picked up Sanchez, Ozil and Wilshere for free from Arsenal in the summer! Would solve lots of problems for no fees, and send AFTV into the biggest meltdown in history

This is the stuff of Muppet dreams; a top player, random turn of events, slapping your rivals and a player swap too?
I for one am glad to be a Transfer Muppet.
Good times.

Ed make it happen just for the bants and purchase a stake in AFTV.
Arsenal to be our Southampton but not being ripped off.

Sanchez was a beast in Italy and Spain playing on the right, its obvious why Jose wants him imo

Playing on the right has never suited Sanchez. He played there initially at Udinese but truly exploded and became the top player that he is when he moved centrally and played off of and dovetailed with Di Natalie. Barcelona signed him off the back of those displays then used him on the right wing and he stuttered, never quite showing the same level of quality as the previous season and not looking on the same level as his teammates. Now, the players in the left and central positions were David Villa and Messi respectively - almost impossible to take one of their starting berths. Sanchez was of a good enough calibre to be a starter in that team, at the time obviously a side of the highest standard, but quite simply he’s not that player playing down the right. Arsenal obviously rejuvenated him while using him off the left mostly and occasionally through the middle. As a right winger he could be described as serviceable - not a disaster by any means but just loses all his stardust. There is no point getting excited about Alexis Sanchez as a right sided player because you aren’t getting Alexis Sanchez.

Which is why this would be a strange transfer. I still get it - Sanchez on the cheap or free, a great player who excels on the left, behind the striker or even up front. It would be a good purchase looked at in isolation, but when you consider we have Martial and Rashford as left-sided, right footed players of the dribbling variety already and what we need is positionally a right-sided player and stylistically a runner (though Lingard is providing this just now) and/ or a creative passer, we should be looking elsewhere.

I’m sure he doesn’t want to come anyway - he’ll be scared of getting put in Tuanzebe’s pocket in training every day.

Makes no sense. City are runaway leaders so not direct rivals for the Top Four trophy.

At the very least Arsenal would demand 15-20M more from us than City.

I called this on the Ozil thread before this one existed week ago. Please make it so! I was so happy that we have not been tied to him and instead with Ozil. Great missdirection. He is our talisman. We need his creativity, flair, toughness.

I thought Martial will be offered but Mikhi is fine too. No brainer for Arsenal.
Yes, please!

I'd honestly rather have Ozil
I’d take whoever’s coming in Jan. We need improving in general, now, so that we can try and win something and not just completely give in to City.

I’d agree that we need a creative player more than another forward, but I don’t think Ozil is available in January is he?

It makes sense for Arsenal, they get more money from us and a replacement of sorts, with Mkhitaryan as part of the deal. The only way it makes more sense to Sanchez himself (not counting more global appeal, better sponsorship deals, more money etc) is that at this stage of his career, not only will he want more trophies but he'll also want to be the main man at a big club. He gets that here. Less competition for places, would probably be the best player at the club.
Still think he'll go to City but we're giving him something to seriously consider, I think.

As many in the thread are suspecting, it could be that player's agent is sending out rumours in the media so that City go for him now rather than think about it and go later.
Wouldn't be the first time most of media picks up such things.
Not when it shows up on the Guardian’s website. No longer a rummor.

Well said. Just a look at his highlights on youtube show this. He's not the answer for the right side - his role would be playing off Lukaku or as an alternative to him.

I remember when we were linked with him when he played for Udinese and he binned us off for Barca. The guy is class though and could have an RVP-like effect if he joined us. Won't lose sleep if it doesn't happen, but would definitely improve our first 11 for sure.

That would utterly idiotic.

This just proves the press know nothing. Last week it was Malcolm, yesterday Lucas and today Sanchez, its a muppet's world after all.

oh, maybe my Football Manager conquest was realistic afterall:

Bingo. No one knows feck all until it’s pretty much done.

I'd say there's about a less than 10% chance of it happening. Also, do we not need more of a proper right winger. Still take him though.

I only read the thread title, not the news. If Mkhi is included then yes, we are basically offering >30M more than City, which is what I was getting at.

I thought FM was supposed to be realistic? Like feck someone would pay that much for Darmian.

Not a hope in hell Sanchez chooses us over City and Pep football.

Whilst I agree that they look a more attractive proposition footballing wise, I think that he would be guaranteed more play time here. He's a big ego and won't be happy on the bench. Who's getting dropped for him?

Sterling - on fire.
Sane - on fire.
Aguero - on fire.
De Bruyne - on fire.

With us, he's guarantee'd that #10 if he wants to roam. Can play on either wing, and Rashford is bang out of form at the moment - as well as the question marks up front.

It will be Sane in the short term. Aguero long term. I don’t think they should sign him but that’s what I’m expecting.

I’m not even as keen on Sanchez as some but still think he’s far more suited to us than City.

I've always said he'd be good as a right now player on the left while Martial develops. People keep saying he's young and imo he doesn't do enough for us atm (I know his stats before anyone throws them out, but he doesn't do enough throughout most games), so this is perfect for me.
Imagine Sanchez on the left and Mahrez on the right. Massive upgrade on what we have to offer currently.

Seems silly to stunt a player who's playing so well in Sane's development. Also, he's the same age as Aguero so I don't see why they'd replace a great goalscorer for a player who's best position isn't up top. Seems odd to me, and definitely agree that he's more suited here.

Also Sanchez did not perform at the level he'd capable of at Pep's Barcelona. He just never seemed to fit into his system/style of play. I think Sanchez benefits from a bit more freedom. He's more Maverick than metronomic (?) if that makes any sense.

Pogba, Sanchez and Martial in one team would be awesome.

If the cash only offer is 25 Million I shudder to think how much more it will be to take Mkhitaryan off our hands as well.

Sanchezter United! Finally!

Waited for 7 years for this. Please make it happen.

"Jose Mourinho pulls a dirty sanchez on Pep Guardialo - Manchester United sign Alexis from Arsenal"

It's hope that kills, I actually wanted to believe this until the ornstien tweet, not even mentioning us tells how good our chances are.

If we're serious I'd offer them 35m and Mkhi.

To get a World Class player of Sanchez standard in contract in the current market you're talking about 80m (it'd be more but he's 29), and Mkhi doesn't fit here, yet would fit at Arse.

We'd be replacing Zlatan, and making a marquee signing. 35m, Mkhi and Rooney's wages.

Oh, and the number 7 shirt, obviously.

But it won't happen. He'll go to citeh, win a few trophies but ultimately stagnate and get frustrated being rotated as he hates that, and then leave.
