Alexis Sanchez | Done deal

Why so? It doesn't hurt us if City have to pay a bit more.
It gives Arsenal more money to challenge for the top 4 next season. City having unlimited money makes it irrelevant to us - and them - how much they spend because whatever the number, they'll still spend whatever they want in the next window. Arsenal though are working to a budget like all non-sugar daddy clubs, so all this does is make their budget slightly larger in the summer.

If it's Arsenal leaking then hopefully Jose shuts this all down in tomorrow's presser, if the club don't do it sooner.

If it's someone from Sanchez's camp (or Arsenal's) using us to get a better deal for themselves, I hope we put out a strong public denial of the story soon.

Why would we do that. We probably are being used by Sanchez's agent to get City to stump up more cash. Hopefully the plan succeeds! Wouldn't you rather they had to pay through the nose for him?

When we broke the record 18 months ago, it was a different market. 89 million sounds like very little when you compare the outlay necessary for Dybala. Juve don't even need to sell since he's their best player and under contract until 2022. I'd love to be proven wrong and see the club bring him in but I just can't see us paying 140m plus for any player.

£89m can sound little if you like but it was still more than any of the other clubs you probably feel are more likely to buy Dybala had paid for any footballer until then.

Records will continue to get bigger and bigger, and putting aside PSG - there is no player that Barcelona can afford to buy that Manchester United can’t, so if they can spend what they spent on Coutinho, please believe we can do the same for Dybala if we wanted to.

Tbh, that will be just a moral victory, it won't affect them or anyone by the slightest. Only Arsenal will benefit more but I doubt they will even do anything with that extra money. As for City, adding extra 10m won't affect them.

It's all relative. Their chap is worth multi-billions, I am sure they aren't sweating over £10m!

And we would just happily let them tell the world we’ve offered one of our players away if it was untrue? I doubt that.

There is absolutely nothing in this and we won't sign him otherwise I will eat my favourite steak meal at my favourite restaurant!

TBF though, I've never been more confident of anything, so if it does happen idiot is a fair representation.

FFP is becoming more of a problem for them to cheat their way around it. I think they are thinking about how many more fake shell companies they will need to open up in order to stick a sponsor logo on their empty seats. At £250 a seat that should fetch them well over £10M

There is absolutely nothing wrong with City being favourites for his signature and us still tabelling an offer. It's sure as sh1t better than just preparing offers...

Who cares if he goes across the City?

He'd be a guaranteed starter for us in any of four positions. He's better than every player at the club aside from perhaps Pogba. No shame in bidding but falling short.

It's been fun, for a day, being linked with an actual quality player and a big move. Enjoyed it. Would do it again.

Is there people actually being ashamed? Competing with City for top players is proof that the board isn't going to accept being second best to them which is great news.

I think he will go to City, right now it’s the best route to the title and at his age he hasn’t got many chances left to grab it, will get it at City, no brainer for him.

Not convinced that's true, to be honest. They wouldn't be haggling over the fee if it was.

Not sure if this is new or a rehash of an earlier article but I hadn’t seen it before. Similar to everything else which definitely suggests we’re trying despite City looking likely.

I believe we will have to pay double of what City is offering to get him here. His mind seems set on City. No doubt, he would be a great addition and have a Van Persie-esque impact. However, I will remain optimistic.

United should save that fee amount and focus on bringing Griezman here instead this summer. Get someone like Malcom or a pacy, technical gifted right winger now if Sanchez will go for a large fee.

They have unlimited money; but there are only so many tricks you can use to up your FFP limits.

City have outspent Utd since 2009, which would mean that they are somewhat close to United's financial profile, which is obviously not the case.

That's what I mean, yeah. I'm not disputing that their owners have more money than is required to run a football club. I am disputing the idea that money is no object, as that is the relevant bit.

Sanchez wants to win titles, and this year's title is coming with City so... and I am not sure if he would want to work with us. After that, I don't know, maybe Jose has a way of talking to those players but I wouldn't understand him coming.
And where does he play? We need more a player to be a "better" Mata and bring creativity during offensive phases. Sanchez is a goal scorer. Granted, he's top notch in this regard but without the ball, we won't do better compared to now.

Thanks. The City scare makes people here lose their marbles.

£25m plus Miki for Sanchez who only has 6 months left in his contract is a fair deal. Both teams receive the benefit. We get a proper winger which what we are looking for & Arsenal gets cash + replacement for a player who wanted to leave the club. Miki isn't good enough for United style, but we know what he can do in Dortmund so Wenger might be able to get the best out of him, so Miki isn't a bad replacement at all.

If Arsenal lose Sanchez to City, they won't be able to have enough time to sign a replacement for him this January. That means their season is likely over, I see zero chance for them to win Europa League or get top 4 if they lose Sanchez without sign a replacement.

He wants money. Money. Money.

He's a mercenary but I'd happily have him as our mercenary.

This thread keeps growing quickly and IMO it will not end nice. How many times before we learn that almost everyone uses our name to a certain purpose? Remember Ramos, Thiago, Vidal and the list goes on and on and as long as it works it won't stop. Surely Sanchez wants to win the league and City now are the clear favorites. Tbf I don't think it's about some extra millions or something. This all made up by the press, creat ridiculous story that could last till the last day of the window.

They finally realised no one was reading their 18th rewrite of Bale to United and needed something new.

People overestimate how much a 2 time south american champion cares about winning the PL. Guy like Alexis, he'd trade 10 PL medals for 1 CL

Agree with this. The obsession with the PL is fan based, the players would always pick the CL.

It seems like we've had some encouragement from the players Agent to make an offer. Simon Mullock from the Daily Mirror who is quite good regarding City seems to think we may land him by offering the player more than what City are prepared to offer him. I think we might actually pull this off..
