You mean after 12 months here you are not able to make a judgement on him? Guy is clearly in decline and we have ended up with Rooney mark 2 here on higher wages
Can't you see why some want to give him a proper chance under Ole? Basically no attacking player had any sort of from under Ole and basically all have improved under Ole.

I am not a sentimental type of person. There are many players at the club who have survived as long as they have because new managers have come in and wanted to give everyone a chance. Sanchez wasnt only poor at Utd in 12 months, he was also extremely poor at Arsenal for much of his final 10 months there. This isnt about a player who will suddenly come good now we have a new manager, this is a player who is in physical decline and is being paid astronomical wages.

Completely, and utterly, finished as a top-level footballer. Offered nothing all game.

If I was Ole now, i'd wrap in him cotton wool after he recovers from injury, don't play him at all, and do everything in our power to get him off the fecking payroll in the summer.

Sanchez is finished.

I'm not agreeing nor disagreeing.

But I can understand why some want him to have a chance. At least see the season out and see if there's anything there anymore. He's had about 90 minutes back since a mid-term injury and he's got 2 assists and played a good pass for the first goal today.

For me, that's enough to warrant a chance between now and May.

He will be given a chance I am sure. One of the bad things about having an Interim is that no players will be allowed to leave as Ole cannot make those decisions (hence why Jones, and Young will also be given contract extensions) The cycle beings again next August. I want Utd to win above everything else, just sick of seeing mediocre players

It was a good pass for the second goal, but really it was no different than how he's performed for the last 12 months. To be fair the entire team was generally playing like a Mourinho team with no chemistry and spending most of it sitting deep, but I was still hoping for an improvement.

I do think more and more that the only way he might come good is if he's played up front, but unfortunately (for him) Rashford has done brilliantly the last month and when Rashford is rested that spot will probably go to Lukaku. It's going to be difficult for Sanchez to get an opportunity in that position to show whether he can or can not perform there.

I thought everyone got a clean slate after Jose? Or is it selective bias?

What about the assist for the goal ?

It looked suspiciously like he doesn’t fancy playing the full game vs Reading, the way he just sat down on the pitch and asked to be subbed.

Not sure what it is. Please get rid! He takes up the salary of 2-3 top young signings that would be hungrier than him.

I don't think it will be easy getting rid of the Mourinho signing. I mean, who would decide to leave in a salary like that.

Same thing that happened to Rooney has happened to Sanchez. When you lose speed, strength & momentum at an older age & away from your prime - what this needs is an early recognition & training towards a new role/position.

Sanchez is not a winger anymore.

That really annoyed me as well. I really wanted to see James Garner given a little run.

That is what happened and even though it seem like a minor incident I truly believe we have a lot of big ego issues at the club. We aren't successful and the players aren't happy with that which is fine, but at the same time nobody wants to take responsibility for that. Everyone wants to play nobody wants to lose. You would have thought a manager like Mourinho would be someone to deal with that sort of stuff, but that didn't work. Now we do have a nicer man as manager but my fear is that they don't take him seriously enough. It is difficult for Ole as he'll have to be "nice" to keep the squad happy, but if he oversteps his perceived power then the players might start acting unprofessional again. No way to control the players for him if something like that happens. Good thing is that the players can't hide behind Mourinho anymore if they do go full dipshit mode.

He has till the end of the season to show his worth, or he needs to go.

And if he doesn't, where does he go? No one is going to take him, maybe China...would he be willing to move there? I'm not so sure. This isn't a headache you'll be able to get rid of that easily IMO.

He can't play out wide anymore. It's central or nothing with him now.

I think he's physically shot like Rooney though. The body is lagging behind what his brain is telling him to do. He just looks in slow motion constantly.

I think those who say he was terrible are exaggerating but I really don’t know who could have watched that game and gave him MOTM. He had an assist but it wasn’t some brilliant piece of magic, it was a pass I would expect any attacking player for Utd to make and most would.

It seems clear that he is way behind Martial and Rashford on the left so if he’s going to play it’s got to be on the right. But I haven’t seen anything to show that he should play over Lingard or Mata there either. Whether it’s injury or age he seems unwilling to make runs for others or to take people on himself and that’s a major problem that I don’t think is related to playing a disjointed side today.

Not really impressed with him

Mixed performance today. Not a left winger for me, centre forward or floating attacker.

I’d have him in the first team ahead of Lingard. He has more quality. He can come off for Lingard in the second half of games, but football is often down to moments, and he still has moments in him I think. I also think his quality is in tune with out other regular attacking players.

Only seen a couple of minutes of the game as I was working but heard he played okay but really against Reading he should have looked brilliant.

Perhaps he can turn it all around for himself but if he's really on the circa 500k a week wages then do we really need him? If we could offload him why not?

How many games if any will he really help control or turn around if things go wrong?

I personally feel Lingards movement and pressing is more valuable as long as we get the quality moments from Martial and Pogba. Id like to think we could replace Lingard but I just don't see us being better with Sanchez. He was as poor today as he has been most of the season and last

Martial and Rashford are not reliable enough yet in terms of productivity for me. I think I’d feel more secure with what I consider to be an equal threat spread across the three, rather than Martial, Rashford and the Lingard who very sparingly does the right thing with the ball in the final third.

I also believe Sanchez can press and move similarly to Jesse. I think his pace or whatever is being judged against his own previous standards, not the standards of Jesse Lingard. Even now, I don’t think Lingard is really more athletic than Sanchez, who still runs about. The issue is that Sanchez is no longer much faster than Jesse as we know him to have been. But Lingard is no Rashford or anything with his dynamism himself.

I can't believe some of the posts I'm reading on here. It probably goes to show how far this club has gone down.

Sanchez was terrible today against a team in the bottom 3 in the Championship. Now if that's due to not having match fitness or carrying a injury, fair enough. But please don't insult the people who watched this game to say he was man of the match.
So he made an "assist", big fecking deal. This word assist thing has snow balled into something so stupid. 10 years ago, it wouldn't even be mentioned.
If fellani played like Sanchez today, this place will be calling for his head. I would love Sanchez to succeed, but it Just isn't happening. When he traps a ball or turns and makes a pass, we all magnify it so much trying to fool ourselves that he is coming good. But it's the least we should expect. When you sign a player on his wages or fee, you expect him to be world class and win games on his own. Sadly this will never happen with his player.

Agreed.

I accept that the whole team looked disjointed today and he was returning from injury.

But also need to accept that the opposition were gash.

Against both of those, there was little to suggest a player that's worth the extravagant wages he's being paid. Past it and injury prone - a more expensive Phil Jones. I fear we are going to have to take a big hit financially to get rid of him.

Don't think it will be an issue moving him on, he is the exact profile some of the Chinese clubs are looking for. They can afford his wages no problem, in fact they'll probably raise it.

Anyone talking about Sanchez playing well or making good passes were probably the same people that talked about how Falcao was "getting in the right positions"

On paper you’d think he’d have more quality than lingard but on the field he hasn’t been. He had an opportunity today but he didn’t really show he should start v spurs.

I guess my question is what makes you think that Sanchez can press and move similarly to Jesse? I wish I could rewatch the game to confirm this but I don’t remember him making a single run to get in behind or to make significant space for others, didn’t take a man on all game when opportunities were there, and didn’t press in any exceptional way.

I don’t think Jesse is any sort of special talent and his place should be as a squad player not a starter, but he at least puts in the effort and I think the chemistry he shows with the other attackers shouldn’t be ignored for a guy that has shown next to nothing in the year we’ve had him.

Other than the assist, he was forgettable. Great assist though.

But, I guess the whole team was forgettable. When Darmian is your best player, it's probably been a pretty shit game. That might have been the worst 3 man midfield we've ever started. Reading bossed the middle of the pitch. It was all terribly disjointed.

He looked similar to most of his Utd career to date, wasn't bad just didn't really stand out. He tries clever passes but they often seem to be just over or under hit, that said the assist was nice and he has gotten a few nice assists for us. Strangest thing for me is that he almost never looks like a goal threat.

Bar Lingard’s purple patch from December 2017 to about Feb 2018, I don’t believe he has shown more ‘quality’ than Sanchez at all. It’s just that we, rightly, have higher expectation of Sanchez. But he’s a better forward than Lingard, even now, in my opinion. I just think many may not see that because we are too busy, correctly, judging him by a former standard of himself.

When a player over-achieves relative to expectation, and another player under-achieves, I think it’s natural they will be compared less favourably. Even today against Reading, I believe Sanchez was probably better than Lingard would have been if he had played. Unless this happened to be a game Lingard scores in.

I just think that we should be careful when assessing Alexis, and picking our best players for the team currently. Alexis was that much better than Lingard that just him not being the player he was doesn’t necessarily make Lingard now better. They were not neck and neck before! In terms of level, Sanchez is more on competition with his former self than he is with Jesse Lingard I think.

I accept Sanchez flaws, don’t get me wrong, and I’d happily see him upgraded, but Lingard, or Mata, are not the upgrade in my opinion.

This is what Sanchez does every single time he gets the ball:

Receives it wide left. Bobbles towards the RB a bit, stops, pulls the back to his right foot. Tries a daisy-cutter pass to the 6yrd box or mid-height cross, blocked, cleared.

He's literally the attacking version of Valencia earning 400k a week for this shitshow. He is finished.

Getting rid of him in the summer should be a top priority. I seriously doubt we are going to get much out of him, replace him with a RW and you improve the squad.

I think Sanchez knows he's physically shot. So I actually think he would go to China, now. He's 30, he's entering the final 2-3yrs of his career based on his form, injuries and physical prowess going downhill. I dont think he's as ambitious as we might think, anymore.

Lingard would have ran about 3K more even if 2K of that is ineffective and wouldn’t have walked off because he didn’t fancy playing against a c/ship team.

Im judging Sanchez on what hes done at United.

Im judging Sanchez on what hes done at United.

Which is fair.

I believe there’s a differentiation to be made between ‘not as good as he was’ and ‘not as good as Jesse Lingard’, is all. I believe only one of those statements to be true.

Good assist, hope he's not out for too long. Experienced bodies are needed for the crunch end of the season.

It's how he forces the killer pass when it clearly isn't on. Also wants to trap the ball and turn when it makes more sense to release it quickly. Those things won't work as well any more. That refusal to adapt to his lost pace could hold him back. He still plays like he's the focal point when his game should be maturing to more of a team-oriented style
