I don't really understand the stick he's getting for last night tbh. Thought he looked bright, threatening, and creative when he came on. Obviously not enough on its own, but, hey, I thought he looked a lot more like the player we'd thought we'd bought.

Don't agree, Mourinho wanted a world class player thinking that would fix all his problems and pushed for his transfer I think. Another reason why Woodward and the board don't trust Mourinho's transfer targets anymore.

I truly believe that this was the reason for the boards distrust in Jose's targets etc in the summer.

It's all been handled extremely poorly, no doubt, but I do think this was the catalyst.

Offer him 30m to leave in January, and no, I'm not kidding.

Worrying signs. Thought having the summer off and a full pre-season would do him good but it doesn't look like it. Poor passing, looks slow, can't dribble. I just don't see how he fits into the team. Even if we decide to sell him, with the wages he's on, it's going to be very hard to find a buyer.

A busted flush. He's done. He's (seemingly overnight) lost the yard of pace that made him such a threat, he's pretty much a non-entity out there now.

Cannot believe the mistake we've made with this signing. It seemed like a no-brainer (albeit an unnecessary one) and now we're left with another Rooney situation.

Sums up the club at present. Nightmare situation.

And to think so many of you people thought he was better than Hazard...amazing

I genuinely believe Mourinho never wanted him. It is Woodward's desperate attempt to get one over City. Mourinho was satisfied with the forward line he has before Sanchez but he is forced to play him regardless of performance resulting in unsettling Martial and Rashford. This is the first time I've seen a world class player become a pub player in a fortnight.

Let's hope a club in China come take him in January and take his wages with him as well. £25m a year FFS:wenger::nervous:

Have you forgotten what you were thinking?
Solid proof there that most on here have coincidental amnesia

I'll admit I was super happy when we got him and when he looked dog shit, I jumped on the "needs a rest and pre-season" bandwagon. I have now come to the realization that he's most likely past it.

Am I the only one who thought he did ok when he came on?....

I would say still he will come good. He needs movement up front of him to play his best. Start him upfront instead of Lukaku or play him left and let Martial as the CF.

The signs were there at Arsenal but I did hope a summer off would help him. I think he can still be effective through the middle. That’s where his promising pre season form was. Doesn’t have the legs to be truly effective out wide anymore.

I thought he was fine. Last night wasn’t the night to be up in arms about him. I suppose people can rightly expect him to be more than ok though.

I dont think he could have done that much more. Lingard opportunity was one of the clearer attacks we had, you could see how the move was going to be set up as soon as Alexis, Lukaku and Lingard positioned themselves.

I tend to agree. Looked bright enough when he came on. Only frustration would be that he got the ball wide in their area a couple of times and never tried to take a defender on to open up some space for himself.

Just chuck him on the right. He has lost so much pace but is still more useful than anything we have to offer on the right. We need martial more than ever of the left.

I also hate that stupid thing he does were he must always chip the ball. FFS he never did this at arsenal, did he? If he didn't that just tells you that we have no instructions on how to attack and it's everyone for themselves out there.

That was his trademark there too, he did that a lot. You can defend it easily because they're not that good

Really shocked at how poor he has been since he came to us. It is starting to look a bit like the Torres situation when he moved to Chelsea , that one looked a no brainer as well but turned into a disaster of signing for them.

Sanchez still has loads of time left , but we really could do with seeing the best of him and the sooner the better.

I'd shove him over to the right as well. See if he can get down the outside a bit, link with Valencia who will support a lot.

He wants to be the main man too isn't it?

I see him waiting for either the killer pass or the pass where he can have it given straight back & sod all else in between.

LOL you seem to have such a low bar for Sanchez but when it comes to Martial the bar suddenly shoots up.

Talking about changing his position reminds me of Rooney discussions.

Time flies. Same problems exist.

Another guy who is getting criticized for the sake of it. He was very good when he came on, just short on confidence. All he needs is one goal and he will start banging in.

He was really decent yesterday but people like to criticize him for the sake of it. He looks short of confidence though. A goal here and there will do him wonders.

How do you know he was short on confidence? He told you this?

Agree. From when the sums of 400k week started to become public, was never going to go well. I think he's still a great player but in a team void of any confidence.....

Mourinho definitely wanted him.

Just looking through some bragging videos of Sanchez, and just to get one thing straight, he was never fast in a straight line, so if you are concerned with him losing a yard of pace, don't worry. Even at his Barca days, he was never able to just race past fullbacks like a young Giggs or Robben. He had, and I believe still has, great agility in tight spaces coupled with very good body control and acceleration.

He has been disappointing thus far, but I think many of you are too quick to write him off. Also, he's 29, not 80.

There's no need to get petty.

That was 8 months ago.

Things change.
I know things change. You asked what Mourinho and Woodward were thinking when they signed him 8 months ago. I’m pointing out they were probably thinking the same thing you were.

They should be thinking better than I am.

And while I was excited we ended up getting him in the end, I did state(in the transfer thread) he's been awful for Arsenal that season and I was indifferent to us getting him(https://www.redcafe.net/threads/alexis-sanchez-done-deal.435324/page-37#post-21980277)

He's been such a disappointment. Was watching him run about like a clueless selfish kid in the playground, shooting every chance he got like some annoying FIFA opponent trying to get their game stats up... Then I realised he's lifting a half a million quid a week.
Not sure I like football anymore!

He's been garbage, serves us right for such a soirt mined approach in the market trying to buy 'established' talent whilst everyone hoovers up the young up and coming elite players.
