I don't like him out left. His dribbling isn't great and Martial is much better suited to that position. I think he's so much better when operating more centrally, mind you. Get him closer to Lukaku and nearer the box and he'll score for us. But picking the ball up out wide on the half way line? Nah. He'll continue to struggle.
I'd prefer him centrally, too, but I can see why José's playing him there as Alexis' best ever season came from him playing on the left. Hopefully, though - if Alexis doesn't improve - José is willing to start Martial there with Alexis somewhere else. Preferably in the middle.
I wonder if he may work better as a second striker. But then we'd probably have sacrifice a midfielder or play Pogba out wide, which isn't ideal.
I think he'd be good there. A bit like Rooney/Tevez for us but also more of a playmaker. I also think he would've made a good #8 but that's gone out the window with the signing of Fred and emergence of Pereira.

Think we should play him on the right. It’s not like Mata sticks to the right anyway so just let Alexis roam, Martial out left and Lukaku up top.

That being said it’s still early days, maybe he will play better with Lukaku up top.

I’d probably be more supportive of him if he wasn’t always moaning at his teammates after doing something wrong.

Yes, he does this constantly. In fact probably the best pointer we've had in the side since Bastian fecking Schweinsteiger.

Yesterday nothing went right for him at all but he never gave up, to be fair.

Back to last seasons form. So many misplaced touches and passes. Buy hey he runs around a lot so there's that.

If he can't improve from last season form, given his age and wages, we should just let him go for free.

Despite being full of life, bounding around the pitch like Atom and Humber in a South American dog food ad, Sanchez was off kilter all night, unable to properly make the desired impact throughout.

His inability to truly imprint his influence on the match was illustrated, more than anything else, by the fact that the Chilean gave away possession more than any of our players on the night.

In total, Sanchez gave the ball away 23 times against the Foxes.

To be fair to Sanchez, the season is only young, but he does have previous with this sort of thing, as his performance away to Crystal Palace last season (he gave the ball away 19 times) suggests.

Mourinho needs to show him who’s boss and tell him he either plays wide right (with the licence to cut in and roam like Mata) or he gets benched.

I could understand persisting with him on the left if we didn’t have any other options there, but we have both Martial and Rashford and they would offer far more in that position.

I’m starting to think that we have been stitched up by Arsenal. Let’s be honest, Sanchez looks a shadow of the player he was a couple of years back.

I think he's better centrally.

I wonder how useful a Fluid front 3 of Martial Sanchez Lukaku would look

Do Man City still want him? :(

On a serious and rather worrying note, he seems very slow! Looks like he's lost that burst of acceleration he once had. Also, he's always moaning and yeh you could attribute that to him having high standards if only he wasn't so shit himself.

Any another thing, he never seems happy when we score. Shaw's goal yesterday the entire team were delighted for him, Sanchez looked moody as feck. I genuinely think we've got ourselves a very expensive mistake. I hope he turns it around, but from what I've seen last season and yesterday's game, I don't think he will.

Why he is not playing on the right baffles me. It could open space for martial or rashford and we would be much bigger threat than with mata or lingard on right. With him on the left we are basically playing without wingers

This. If it gets that bad he ends up on the bench, he won'y like it and will push to move on somewhere else.
He's on way too much to be benched. Worst case is he gets moved across the front line either central or put on the right.

I watched every United game last season bar a few. Sanchez was diabolical last season, and has continued that in this game. I thought with a rest and a good preseason he may improve, but he's actually played worse last night in my opinion.
This...I was screaming at the TV

He's Jose's "must always play" Rooney. Sad state of affairs when an underwhelming player simply cannot be dropped even when his performances are painful to watch.

Looks like pre season against cannon fodder and unfit players wasn't an accurate representation. He really looked well off his best, despite being all over the pitch.

Starting to realise why Pogba 'might be upset about the wages situation' he runs like Rooney did in his later years. Ugh!

Hopefully he'll grow into the season as it progresses. I'm not going to write him off after one game but I sure hope that Jose is more willing to swap him out for Martial this season if his form remains poor. Overall he wasn't as bad as some as saying he was but that seems to be par for the course when appraising our players performances of late.

He had a full preseason, was one of our fittest players, yet couldn't seem to pass the ball, and constantly ran in to opposing players and lost the ball. Then, when it's 2 - 1 and the final minute of the game, he has the ball in the opposing half and cheaply loses it rather than running to the corner flag. Good to see Jose absolutely go ballistic at him, shows Jose is not going to accept bad play from anyone.

He was poor last night, his touch wasn’t there at all. However, he is still a different player than the team and you see his frustration with lack of runs. Still, assist for the penalty and should have had one more when our donkey striker fluffed a sitter. That’s something to bring into our next game at least

I don't think Jose will favour him. Last season, he had the excuse of being signed only in January and so was tolerated. This season, Jose will expect him to deliver the goods after a good preseason.

I didn't see last nights game but he's always been a bit overrated. Capable of magical but never been consistent. I think he had one really good season for Arsenal and that's about it.

The problem is Martial, Rashford are droppable, Sanchez is not.
I'm not giving up on him but when Chinese clubs come with a nice offer, we should at least consider it.

What about half a season worth of performances?

I dont think winter transfers should be judged from just half a season. Vidic and Evra werent looking great winter signings for example.

However if Sanchez keeps playing and losing the ball over and over the same way as he did yesterday i will be very worried. Hopefully next game he can show why he is getting such a massive wage.

It was a really bad performance, bar that pass for Lukaku, he couldn't do anything right.

But people shouldn't jump the gun this early, he will come good eventually, let's hope Jose sees some sense and puts him on the right.

Oh dear oh dear oh dear oh dear oh dear oh dear oh dear oh dear oh dear oh dear oh dear oh dear oh dear oh dear oh dear oh dear oh dear oh dear oh dear oh dear oh dear oh dear.

An absolute liability.

What's going to be the excuse this season people?

Not hoing back on what I wrote, he was one of our three best (and good!) players in preseason, and fairly consistent.

However, I’m shocked at those newspapers who gave him above 5 out of 10 yesterday. He made a hash out of almost every involvement, everything from decisions, ball control, pass precision was abysmal. Even if he made one pen and should have had two assists, it’s his worst performance for us.

The excuse this time for me, is going to be overexcitement.

Really strange. Felt like he'd get into games way more with other players performing a bit better.
Won't judge off one game though.

But that's another argument. The point people are saying is he gives the ball away a lot, my point is so does every world class attacking player. Not 100% sure but wasn't he our best player in most of the big games since he came last seasons. Proportionally must have had the most assists?
Since Alexis came to United he has registered very few goals and as little assists. comparing him to world class attacking players at other teams is an abomination because you get end product with them.

We'll see the next couple of games. However, he's always played like this, except he had a better output. I suspect we've picked him up when that 'output' is on the wane.

We shouldn't forget he was picking up a few more injuries as well during his last spell with Arsenal - one of the reasons I didn't want him as I reckon at his age, things would only get worse no matter how fit he is. When you play at 100 miles an hour the way he does, the body cannot deal with that indefinitely.

He'll pop up with a few good performances but will never be consistent for us imho. Fervently hoping Mourinho doesn't make LVG's Rooney mistake with him if he doesn't show signs of massive improvement soon.

Couldn't care less about the salary if we don't play him. It's not the fans fault the club was stupid enough to give him that contract. Also he needs to stop with we should have world class players when he's getting a world class salary which he hasn't shown he deserves so far.

If he keeps up these bad performances, I reckon we'll have a problem in the dressing room soon enough with the resentment it will cause amongst the other players.

He was trying too hard. I was also surprised he was very selfless yesterday. He should be taking on players more rather than just trying to cross. He was bad but one good thing is he got in right attacking posotition rather than playing deep so it will finally happen for him.

I hope that's the case. He was our outlet last night, and his teammates found him with long balls time and again, but his final balls were shockingly poor (although he did create the chance that led to Lukaku's saved shot around the 75th minute mark).

The encouraging sign was that the passes from his teammates mostly were not easy takes (given Leicester's willingness to press), and that he did well to fight off his marker and keep the ball. He can yet become an important part of our counter attacking system, but not if the only option he sees is an in-swinging cross when he receives the ball on the left.

Looks like pre season against cannon fodder and unfit players wasn't an accurate representation. He really looked well off his best, despite being all over the pitch.

To be fair we only played against one really bad side in preseason (MLS bottom club San Jose Earthquakes in the drub 0-0 draw where Alexis and the rest looked clueless) and most of the teams we faced bar Real Madrid were fitter than us.

There would be absolutely nothing sensible about moving him to the right. Of all the players who could potentially line up there for us - every single one of which are ill-suited - he is the most expensive and has the most ability. The only attackers we have with any reasonable spark are Martial and him, and Martial seems a lost cause, so it is in our best interest to get Sanchez in good form. It’s not going to happen by playing him out of position.
