He was very poor on the left hand side. I’d be interested to see him play off Lukaku more centrally, if we kept the midfield 3 that would leave one player to roam which would suit Lingard perfectly.

Sanchez - Lukaku
Lingard
Pogba - Fred
Matic
A diamond of sorts but with Lukaku or Lingard drifting right and Pogba and Sanchez drifting left. The wing role just doesn’t suit Sanchez at all.

Just when we had got rid of Rooney, it took us half a season to get in a carbon copy replacement :wenger:

This past-it fraud is taking up 10% of United's entire wage budget lol

Still done nothing for us to prove he's better than Martial on the left. Awful performance.

Obviously a great attitude, but despite all the pre-season optimism, another woeful performance from the man supposed to be our best attacker. Made so many bad decisions, and worse, really poor passes.

Not sure what the answer is.

I guess in his defence he is incredibly isolated, but that's going to be the case playing under Mourinho. I wonder if we don't move him ahead of Lukaku somehow, as a more traditional duo.

he showed good signs in preseason, he's working hard, he was a worldie for Arsenal before so I am still confident when we have not shit fullbacks like Shaw and Darmian, When Pogba stops loosing every second ball like in the first half, when there is someone up topwho can hold the ball, make runs and be a presence, when we have a RW or anyone who is not invisible as Mata BUT, he himself should shut the feck up about club ambitions and play better on the wages he is, stop moaning, concentrate on your performance and others will follow

Christ, he was poor. A couple nice long passes to switch the play, but his final ball was woeful 9 times out of 10.

I'm surprised he played for Pep once given how much emphasis he puts on keeping possession. Sanchez plays like a 19 year old sometimes. Losing the ball and then chasing after it wildly. He needs to relax and play with more maturity.

Oooooweee, shit out those bad performances in the wins. He was brown trout tonight. I still think he's going to have a great season.

Absolute bum.

Looks finished as an elite player, completely incompatible with Pogba. Keep Martial sweet and use Alexis sparingly until January, and hope some Chinese club is willing to throw huge money at him.

Never seen an experienced player at a big club break down so many attacks with awful touches and decisions...

He's an awful winger let's be honest.

He played his best upfront in pre season, we should have swapped Sanchez and Rashford around.
Yeah don’t think he has what it takes to be a top LW any longer - doesn’t have pace required for that role anymore, he can give us more playing upfront though.

Give him this season to show something then I would move him on. Shows nothing Martial can’t do and I’d rather keep him than Sanchez tbh.

Haven’t given up hope on him, but we really need a big season from him or we’re done out here. When you consider our troubles on the other side , a poor season from Alexis would make us so toothless up front. Even Lukaku hasn’t shown he can manage 20 league goals for us so the attack depends a lot on him.

Doesn't score goals. Can't pass. Lost pace.

Martial should walk back in but we know he can't due to some stubbornness from Jose and ridiculous wages.

He's been a disastrous signing.

He was bad... i dont think i have ever seen a player who earns so much money play so bad.

Hopefully he just had a bad day.. ridiculous to write him of after just one match in the season.

I'm a huge fan of him and have supported him, but if he's going to give away the ball like this then he needs to be benched.

Fecking hell. The comments in here are ridiculously harsh! He did a lot of good things tonight, worked his bollox off and heavily involved throughout. Wasn’t a great performance but was perfectly fine.
No, it really wasn’t tbh.

For a player of his calibre he gave the ball away 9/10, he looked like he couldn’t get his footing all match.

Had 1 moment of magic with the nice switch but its just not enough.

Sanchez has lost the pace he once had, he needs to be used as a poacher now.

Stick him up top with Lukaku.

Had like 2-3 good passes that could've been goals and misplaced (who the feck knows how many) everything else.

Awful performance.

He is a supposed superstar on a superstar's wage, working his bollox off is not going to justify what he's paid and you could pick any u-23 and get that particular aspect from them. I'm not sure you'd be saying his performance was fine (let alone perfectly) if one of his numerous misplaced and ill-considered passes had led to us drawing or losing the game.

He, like Pogba and De Gea (our other huge earners) is held to a different level of scrutiny to others in the 1st xi, which is fair, and for all the disruption his signing has caused, (well, more him just being placed on the left with no merit whatsoever) he has to deliver in a manner that justifies everything about being out there.

The biggest problem Sanchez will face this season is how poor he was in the last one - he can't just run-on from that and have the same output and performance level, otherwise, why allow him preferential treatment? He's also on far too much money to be on the bench, so it can easily become a catch-22 of what we do with him. I don't think the comments would be as harsh if we'd seen a really good set of performances from him since getting here and I do think he's in for a tougher ride of it than almost anyone in the first xi should he not deliver as a superstar player is supposed to do.

To me, it looks like his legs are going and that he should be played through the middle, or out wide but much further up the pitch. His biggest strength was always his dribbling and ability to drag men away from others to contain him. He's never been a passer or particularly incisive player when not running with the ball, so it's going to be a concern if he's seen so deep where his erratic passing will prove costly against superior teams to Leicester.

Sure, it's one game, but his history here to this point in time doesn't suggest this is an outlier of a performance. If a player of less repute performed in the same manner, there wouldn't be much clamour for him to hold the position over others in the squad, would there?

He’s always gonna misplace a load of passes. Did the same at Arsenal. Weird that people are so horrified by this. So long as it’s in and around their box that’s fine. The price he pays for trying to make things happen. Not that it was a great performance, mind you. But certainly no worse than any other attacking player.

It was worrying to see how much pace he has lost, when he was through on goal (the one that got called offside) you could see he didn't trust his pace and slowed down.

We're not going to be able to move him on if/when he doesn't work out. He's got 4 years left on his contract. That's the problem with signing aging players on insane wages.

This is nuts. You lot need to watch the game again. Nowhere near as bad as you imply and twice the player once we belatedly got a proper target man on the pitch.
He definitely improved second half and did create a few things so not a complete disaster but to me he is clearly struggling to get away from players. Everything he does is in a hurry even when it’s not needed. He seems to be struggling with not being able to do what he’s always done. There are definitely comparisons to be made with Rooney and that’s a worry. A lot of his misplaced passes are those of a player who’s body is tired.

We need to play him as a (second) striker alongside Lukaku.

Out wide he seems very ineffective for some reason.

Let's not forget though, eventhough he had a poor game overall tonight, he was still involved in our best opportunities of the match e.g. setting up the Mata and Lukaku chances.

Me too but like you said and not the first time either, involved in the best moments in the match. Tbh watched Suárez be exactly the same at Barca and even Hazard too.

I really hoped that his aura would spread and rub it off others

Save for a few good chances created late in the second half I felt he was very poor. Misplaced passes, rushed crosses, failing to take on players etc. Im starting to think this signing was a mistake. Hope he wins me back.

You may be right, but i don’t see Sanchez as a player who would like sitting on the bench, even if he is on massive wages. Could see him end up in China, IF he actually flops for us.

But let’s give him a couple of games first.

Have to say im pretty surprised how much he loses the ball. I'm fine with a cross just going beyond a striker obviously but he loses it in some really unnecessary and wasteful situations.

I love it when you see people actually surprised they have discovered a legit reason to moan, so they just go totally overboard in excitement of the event.
