Alexis Mac Allister | Liverpool watch

MEN stated United already held talks back in March, seems like quite comfortable situation for Ten Hag in having more than one option to choose from in the summer.

Won't even take it with pinch of salt, because this sounds actually realistic option opposed to wait for Frenkie... and as for price problem, just look at Grealish deal, or Maddison's upcoming move, how much it will cost.

Take the relatively young player with winning WC experience now or take risk and try finding someone substantially better, very likely for also elevated price, perhaps even higher.

What, are you actually saying that our staff do something regarding signings before the last week ahead of deadline day? Can't possibly be. Seems to be the opposite to what a few posters have been telling me last few days.

Perhaps not signing this time, but you just know it, we'll loan someone in last week of the muppet show.

Regarding the coming summer I can definitely agree that there are some dark clouds because of the ownership situation. But in general it's funny to see the hysteria and negativity in the transfer thread. Actually not funny, annoying. Need to remind myself again not to go anywhere near that forum as the season is about to end.

No one can avoid a saga, this whole takeover will spark a whole new muppet dimension, I'm afraid.

I'm not into all the transfer speculation and financial modeling that seemingly goes on in there but I do actually love their commitment to muppetry and how they wear it like a badge of pride.

It gets insane in there! I always imagine them with loads of red bull, espresso, ipads and spreadsheets and talking fast in Dutch accents.

Dutch accents are actually obsolete if you don't have war size storage facilities of F5 keys, just in case Arnold goes on culinary trip to Barcelona.

I've never really noticed Mac Allister before. Seen him a few times, maybe in the world cup. Looks tidy. Still not sure what the fuss is about though and why we're looking to sign him.

I probably just need @KirkDuyt to give his in depth analysis that he just doesn't suit our style (like Gakpo) and I'll be happier. :D

Erm, can't help you, I only talk down Dutch players, this guy looks class.

If Gundogan leaves in the summer I'd love for City to be in for him. He presses like a monster, is tidy on the ball (if not Gundogan tidy) and has decent end product.

You could have said similar about Wijnauldum. He’s an excellent signing for Klopp.

Haha, that Sturridge guy should have used muppeting in mitigation for his defence on betting. It's like that Band Aid song 'it's Transfer time. There's no need to be afraid..'

Thought he only wanted to join a CL club? Yet he’s going to Liverpool  This had them written all over it though. They’re having to be smart this summer with not being in the CL.

I’m really not sure about him as a player and even if I was that fee is something else.

They are desperate for fresh legs in the midfield but he's the most limited of the Brighton lads up for sale. They done well propping him up this season to get a very good price.

He's a good player but wouldn't be a nailed on starter for any of the top three clubs in the league. Still an improvement on Liverpool's terrible midfield though.

Really good all around midfielder who will never be a star but will facilitate the rest of the team and has the versatility to plug into a number of roles. Not necessarily the same quality, but his profile is like Gundogan or Fede Valverde and those players are really valuable to a manager.

I am a bit surprised United didn't look at him. For me, he would be a much better complement to Casemiro and Bruno than an attacking player like Mount.

Upgrading players to better players is never a bad thing, always amazes me how Utd fans only want these nailed on incredible players, and then wonder how people like Klopp and Liverpool elevate players they insisted weren't good enough for our team.

Yup. Although when we’ve made similar signings in the past (not amazing but a good PL player and surely better than what we have) it has tended to go tits up anyway. Schneiderlin being the most obvious example.

Is this guy really that good? In 4 seasons at Brighton he has only scored 16 goals (including 8 penalties) and has only 5 assists.

How was this only £35m? Was there a clause is his contract?

Works his arse off for the team though. Bit a of a Milner replacement which is key to how they play.

How, just how were we not in for this guy when the release clause was so low? Murtough the genius will go and buy Mount now for 60m and everyone will be raving about how we should back the manager at any cost.

I'm not sure I agree. A lot will depend on who else we sign and how EtH will try to play next season.

I've seen Mac Allister play a lot, in person, and never been super impressed. Good player for sure, but think the WC has added a layer of gloss. He always looked better further forward as a #10 whenever I've watched him as well.

I do think he'll be good for Liverpool and how Klopp utilises his midfield to be more functional than creative. Seems like a real Wijnaldum type of signing.

Brighton CEO says they don't do clauses but have one of their most sellable assets on a tiny release clause? Someone's lying aren't they.

He fits Liverpool's midfield, he brings a lot of energy which is what Klopp wants, but he wouldn't be particularly useful for us. As much as I've generally been underwhelmed with Mount, I do think there's a rationale of wanting him. It's not that either is particularly better than the other (they're both good players a tier below the top players of the league), it's just that they both fit different styles of play and have different qualities.

Probably tapping him up most of the season to make them his prefered destination, then got gentlemans agreement from Brighton to be let go in summer if he stays in Jan.
