A backup versatile player is exactly what we need. Now just for a central midfielder.

Seems like a decent low risk deal for some much needed left back cover.

Seems like a slight panic buy, we were unable to sign the back up left back that we wanted and our three right backs are always injured! I doubt that the scouting staff have high hopes for him, more like a convenient and cheap short term solution, brought on by the sale of Rodwell to City strengthening Everton's position on Baines.

Yep. We do things like this all the time.

Is this a De Laet style transfer where he'll be bedded in the reserves or does he slot into the subs bench?

He's got over a hundred appearances in the dutch league and he was in the provisional Dutch squad for the Euro. How good he is, I don't know. But this isn't a De Laet.

No Baines then, which is good news.

I hope he gets some games and looks decent, just because I don't want to close my eyes when I see anybody tackling Evra.

How do we know if its good news? What if this guy is terrible and Evra is either just as terrible as last season or gets injured?

The guy who got ahead of him in the Dutch squad and started all the games in the Euros was terrible. Hopefully that was a mistake on Marwijk's part.

I highly doubt he'll be terrible. We will have scouted him, and wouldn't sign him if we weren't sure he could do a job. He may not be as good as Evra, but he won't be terrible.

What if van Persie gets injured and Rooney, Welbeck, Hernandez and Berbatov/Macheda all die two days after the end of this transfer window?

Reminds me of my classic post on DevilPage.

We'd be allowed to bring a new striker outside of transfer window though.

Aye, the time of "where will the goals come from", wasn't it? However we don't have Solskjaer, so fortunately, no-one will feck of to Norway to build a new house ().

Then you'll be charged for your obvious involvement after this post and quite rightly too.

A bit earlier I think, before Ruud left. I don't remember the exact post though.

He must be shit, if he's 3rd choice in a squad where Jetro Willems is a first team player.

Yeah, Carrick's crap too.

oh snap.

It's true though, him being left out of the squad shouldn't mean much, especialy given the fact that Holland were terrible in the euros. Heck even RvP didn't start every game.

It's seems more of a Quinton Fortune/Mikael Silvestre type transfer rather than De Laet.... I would imagine he will provide immediate cover for left back and is unlikely to be loaned out or feature heavily in the reserves.

Silverstre was an Inter player who had CL experience. So maybe more a fortune signing. That would be good

Seems like SAF sort of player , can play on the left and the right side.

“My biggest strength? I never give up,” he said. “I was born in a suburb in Doetinchem, called the Camp. My grandparents lived in a camp you know, like a trailer camp and the Romas? There is a different culture there. The vibe apparently was really cool. I was a real street urchin. A little rat. I was always playing football on the streets and it was a tough education, I can tell you. I was pretty good so I was invited to play with the older kids but they didn’t spare me. The trailer camps have a bad reputation in Holland. People think everybody grows weed there but it’s not true. Most camps don’t like to do any illegal and if something happens, it’s taken care of within the clan. We take care of our own problems, but we also defend and support each other. That loyalty is key. I am a trailer camp kid, and I’m proud of it.”

So last summer a homeless dude and now a gypsy:D

Its pretty obvious that noone on here has seen him play.

Its still not going to stop people from predicting what sort of signing he will be.

Well I'd rather we take a punt knowing that we have decent young players in Brady (who will go out on loan now I think) and Blackett in reserves than spend £15m plus on an average LB like Baines

Am I the only one thinking that this signing is to allow more funds towards a midfield target. It seems that Baines was a target but at the price Everton want then it would tie our hands elsewhere. I think it's an interesting signing given the rumours around Tiote or Cabaye.
