If Willems is better than Büttner then we are fecked. :(
Willems is supposed to be a huge talent. Poor tournament was just that.. a few bad games in a new team for a kid.

3rd-4th best young LB in Europe..... not bad for a cheap backup.
If he comes good... even better.

Apart from all those other games where he doesn't.

The grief Evra continues to get after a season where he was frequently very close to his best is getting ridiculous now.

There are plenty of games when Evra can attack at will and it all makes sense. But in the really vital CL games, and tough league games, where we are really put under pressure, he keeps letting us down.

The only excude with some merit is that he plays so many games that he never gets a rest. But so many of mistakes seem to be because he's just one of those attacking fullbacks who can't defend very well.

Well, I'd say criticising performances by a player who, according to some, has been coming back to his old-self is more of acknowledging his real, since some time hidden class.

Being happy with him performing like he's now is more of under-rating him if anything.

Well that was just my opinion.

You've probably only seen Willems in the Euros. He's widely regarded as top-notch in Eredivisie. Even a friend of mine - Ajax fan says he's very very good despite him playing for PSV.

Looks like Tom Cleverely.

That's true, and I was just kidding, I'm actually very excited about this signing.

On manutd.com Sir Alex calls him one of the best young left backs in europe. So he must be quite good... I hope.

Time to make this a united forum thread?

He had a few shockers in Europe last season (who didn't?) but was good to excellent in almost* all our toughest league games. Which was a factor in us having such a good record against the best teams in the league.

*He wasn't much cop against City at home but that game was a total defensive fiasco, from everyone.

Was this the player that Fergie was referring to when he mentioned that he would go for one other player if he became available?

Surely not because he was clearly available as Southampton were in discussions to buy him.

I doubt it, considering he's been available all Summer since he's wanted to leave Vitesse.

He needs to get rid of that stupid haircut all players are having

is he holding a cheap, plastic pen? other new-comers signed their contract with fountain pens IIRC

everything about this transfer is weird

From the first moment this transfer looked to me as Bebe x2. A player for whom I have never heard transferred to us for a not big sum and in absolutelly hide.

Hope that I'm wrong though.

Expect Daniel Taylor to reveal that our coaches think he's shit in training any day now! :wenger:

So, wrong forum

Büttner signs for United

Dutch defender Alexander Büttner has today completed his medical, agreed personal terms and signed for Manchester United on a five-year contract until 2017.

The 23-year-old, who was part of Holland's preliminary squad for this summer's European Championship, joins the Reds from Vitesse Arnhem, where he made 119 appearances over the past four years.

Sir Alex Ferguson said: "Alexander is one of the best young left backs in Europe and we're delighted to sign him. He's someone we've been watching for a while now. He gives us some really exciting options in that position."

Alexander Büttner said: "Joining Manchester United is one of the best days of my life. It's a team I have admired for many years now and I can't wait to join my teammates and play my part in helping the club be successful."

Now to check how the Facebook United fans have reacted to it:

this gringo has awesome control over ball.buttner can easily change the games on his one.gud to see him with reds

Welcome!nw bring kaka then all shall be in place 4 a treble.

he looks like a cum-stain

FINALLY...!! We need him as Center Back to replace Michael Carrick and put him back to Midfielder. He's not good enough as Center Back... :p

still think we should sign wesley sneijder. weclome to utd alex

..... pathetic what were doing.. Paying 30 mil for a player 28 y of age that had more injuries than the entire United team combined.. He had 2 good seasons.. No more, no less.. And now they give us Buttner, an unknown player of the dutch Eredivisie.. Plz, someone shoot glazer, bring back Peter Kenyon, he bloody knew how to manage and operate a top team..

this guy was amazing in the euros 2012 in summer. so glad we have him

Bebe never played once in the Portuguese top flight. This guy has played 120 times in the last four years in the Dutch top league.

Not every unknown player is Bebe.
