I like telles. I also like having Telles in a 532 formation

The people killing him for the first goal have no clue about football. Once you let the opponent get a deflection in near post at that speed, Alex Telles has to be super man to react faster than Soucelk and then I'm not sure how its not an own goal

He was caught ball watching, plain and simple.

Eh? You follow your man in the event someome gets a flick on.
You don’t “react” to the flick on man.

That cross in to Cavani in the first half was a better pass than any of our fullbacks have made since Evra/Gary - for his delivery alone, he should get a solid amount of games per season. I think Shaw is better defensively and makes more runs (I’m sure Alex will improve on this) but Telles is so much better at the final ball. Horses for courses and I am happy we have them both. We’ve got good depth at left back now.

He fell asleep / ball watching for their goal. He's not the only one this season that's done this during a set piece. Unfortunately it seems like he won't be the last as that aspect is not improving.

He's good going forward and gets into good positions and puts in dangerous crosses
Got a good assist (although Mason turned his cross into a good assist)

Shaw better overall. Better defending and bring the ball out under the press. Can be used as a CB when three are required. But often injured.
Telles better corners and crossing. Much better back up than Williams.
Attacking clubs Shaw is needed.
Clubs that sit back Telles may be the better choice.

Stop talking out of your ass. He literally stood there ball watching instead of being aware of what's going on around him.

That's not what a defender is supposed to do when defending a set piece.

Nothing special and defensively a bit lost at times. Anyway, he's second choice LB so it's what you'd expect. Wish he'd make use of his crosses more as that's his main strength.

Agreed. Not impressed by him from what I saw in the last few games. Defensively suspect, slow at recovery when ball is lost in attack and he needs to track back. His offensive contribution for now does not warrant for him to be starting ahead of Shaw. But good to have both of them.

Good god people give him a chance to settle, as if people are writing him off already.

personally I like his attitude, he’s positive and goes forward. He was already celebrating the rashford goal yesterday even before rashford got into a position to shoot. People saying his crosses are not accurate thing is they are actually very good it’s just when your aiming it towards martial who doesn’t move you’ll never get assists.

Has 2nd/3rd choice signing written all over him, similar vibes to some of our LVG signings.

That said, he’s an okay back up for now, and offers us something we didn’t have before in his crossing.

What we need long term is a clear upgrade on Shaw, Telles crossing aside doesn’t seem to be that.

Not writing of Telles, I think he's decent enough and has done well despite being in a new league, etc. But I think Reguilon would've been a better option from what I've seen from him. Very similar to Evra in the sense that he loves going forward and dribbling with the ball.

Telles stood still watching football at 2 or 3 occations, and they scored on one of them. He is good at creating chances, but not nearly good enough at defending. I would prefer Shaw and maybe even Williams over Telles. Telles is almost 28 years old, but seems to have the same strengths and weaknesses as Williams, who is a young player. Telles seems naive defensively considering he is almost 28 years old.
Maybe we could use Telles as a left midfielder/wing, if we have injuries there or need to defend. He would, despite the limited defensive qualities, help a left back more than many others.
Or we can use him in a match where we have to play very offensively. Here he will be good at creating chances.
But in a match against Leipzig or City in the starting 11? No, thanks.

Maybe he was surprised that a relatively short player like Rice, could get the ball first between AWB and whoever on near post.

Not Telles fault for the goal, you just can't react that quickly to flick ons.

Had a pretty awful first half though, Bowen had him on toast which was a bit worrying! much better in the 2nd half though when they stopped giving him so much room to do what he wanted.

Too early to complete judge his abilities, but first impression is that he is not ideal as a starter but a useful squad player, which remains a bit of an issue for our left hand side. Doesn't look to be as good as an inform Shaw, but someone who should get more assist due to being direct and capable of crossing.

I would think his best position will be left wing back with Shaw on the left of a back 3.

One point I've said several times is why he isn't taking every right wing corner as he looked so menacing taking 3/4 in his first match - I think he took one that side on Saturday which was short of the mark and I get the impression this hasn't been practiced so isn't one of Ole's attacking option ?!

I also think he's been over-played ( obviously because of Shaw's injury ) but he needs a rest in midweek and then it's got to be wing backs against City.

RB Leipzig 3:2 Man Utd
Shaw was on a yellow...was never gonna finish the game cos he is never fit....has no real set piece delivery.

Stays on and Telles is off.

There has to be an explanation that makes sense.

I assume he's injured because if not yeah makes no sense

Shaw is the only one with any pace to cover USS Maguire. That’s really the only reason I can think of. Actually did more that Telles in the 10 minutes or so he played there than Telles did in 45 mins.

Another victim of Ole's roulette wheel of tactics. He was doing reasonably well and he'll get plenty of game time under the next manager.

Shaw was playing the role of 2 men, covering for Maguire and Telles simultaneously. Telles was contributing zero to the game, hiding on the left side.

Shaw is infinitely better. Technically excellent and competent with interplay and linking with midfielders and forwards. Telles is a Moyes player; blind cross after blind cross.

Look how many freekicks and corners we had. Imagine Telles was on to deliver them. Tuanzebe could have come on for Victor and give us the athleticism.

I don't think he's had a good game yet, Shaw was much better

So you’d take off our best defender so someone who struggles to beat a man and get back to cover our CB‘s can take free kicks and corners when he hasn’t even shown the quality of delivery expected of him?

As with my comment in the Shaw thread, where exactly was he meant to be playing? Left back? Left wing back? Left midfield? It was bonkers.

Shaw is by far and away better than Telles. I think Telles is pretty wank tbf.

He's slow and lazy in attack. Barely supports the attack with runs and when he gets the ball deep, he can't be bothered to drive with it, instead opting to a lazy hoof that hardly works. Defensively he's just a trier but again no real quality or intelligence to his defending.

The haggling over his price makes so much sense now because he is bang average.

That made no sense, same when he took a Cavani off against PSG just to put Igahlo as a plan B near the end while taking AWB out which gifted them the 3rd goal.

I don't think he will ever come good under Ole. Maybe he's not as good we I thought, but he has been ok at best and poor at times. But the way we play doesn't help him, he's going to struggle here under Ole. Needs a more attacking minded manager to let him get forward with more freedom.

He used two changes, and ended up with Brandon Williams. Could have just used one and have Telles on the pitch. Must have been an injury.

Non athletic fullbacks never make it on that level. We've made a mistake signing him imo. Unless he'll just be a cover for Shaw which is OK.

He's as much of a wing back as Wan Bissaka. Ole got it wrong again with another fullback.

Shaw was always going to be subbed anyway. We should be comparing Williams to telles, not Shaw to telles. It was a waste of a sub
