Aleksandar Dragović - defender - possible target?

Just reading up on him now...

His idol is Vidic, and it's his dream to play in England.

Also, he once slapped the bald head of a Swiss politician.

 Sign him up.

I'll take him as it seems Jones has caught Jonny Evans syndrome. We need defenders who can actually play football aswell as header and hoof.

I would take Schar over him who's better and more cheaper because his contract is up on the summer.

Yeah no way Schär is better though.
I was going just what everyone thinks about both players and the general hype about Schar and that i've never heard about Dragovic. Why do you reckon Schar is not better?

Because from actually watching Dragovic it's pretty obvious. Dragovic is very mature for his age, better on the ball, the better passer and the better defender. Also one of the main reasons Austria is top of the table for the Euro Qualifications so far.

Ah, cheers. Missed the part that you are a neighbour of mine:)

I'm all for going for Dragovic if LvG decides he's better than our current crop, i will trust his judgement over mine.

It would be exact Fergie's January signing that lad. Quite young but tough and ambitious defender with not so famous name just yet. We were making huge football stars out of players like this one in the past.

It's probably one of many targets on Louie's list but his aerial superiority screams for further interest.

What sort of defender do you see him as, @Godfather? How does he compare with our current crop?

Didn't we sign Vidic when he was a big reason that Serbia were doing superbly in their qualifications? Albeit the world cup qualification.

I watched him from time to time when he was at Basel and I regularly see him for Austria. I still rate him highly. He is - as mentioned - one of the reasons why Austria is successfull these days. I never saw him for Dinamo, but a few german tactics-blogs said a few months ago that Dragovic is already too good for a team like Dinamo.

I remember when Basel beat Bayern 1:0 in the Champions League 2012. Dragovic was superb in this match.

Gomez had no chance against him and Abraham.

Didn't he give an interview after the game and said that Gomez is a bit shit at football? Shouldn't have done that, I'm sure it motivated Gomez a bit, who went on to destroy Dragovic and Basel in the return leg, scoring 4 goals in the 7-0 win.

He really was superb in the first leg though.

Aleksandar oooo-oh
Aleksandar oooo-oh
He comes from Austria
He'll fecking murder ya!

He's no worse than Laporte or Marquinhos imo. Varane is probably on a different level potential wise but playing for a much better team.

That's hard to believe. Considering Laporte and Marquinhos are both younger and playing in better leagues. Laporte was one of Athetic's best players last season at the age of 19, also being one of the best centre-halves outside of Real, Barcelona and Atletico.

Yeah absolutely, Laporte is doing it in one of the best leagues in the world and is much younger too, Laporte and Varane are the 2 most talented CBs outthere imo, Dragovic is not anywhere close to him. I rate him and I think he is the most talented defender from Austria in recent years, but I still think he isn't good enough for us. We have already enough "ok" defenders, what we need now is a top class-CB who can improve the defence 1,2 levels alone with his ability.

ScoutNation just posted a video about him if anyone interested:

"Ok" defenders don't break down as easily and as often as ours do, I'd rather have an ok/average/very good defender in right now to tighten things up at the back before a summer rebuild. At the rate our defenders break down I won't be shocked if we are reduced to fielding Carrick-Blind in central defence by the time we face Leicester!

Key question: what's his injury record like?

You'd imagine he has an exemplary injury record, where upon joining United, he'll immediately donate his body to medical research.

You'll see. Laporte may have more potential than Dragovic but atm there's not much between them imho. He's really good.

Can you imagine him and Rojo. It will be a laugh a minute.

He is not a mad bastard on the pitch, nothing to worry here :)
He is just not a really intelligent guy, you just have to listen to him in his interviews, but he matured a lot in the last few months and I can't remember anything stupid from him on the pitch.
