He actually checked/curved his run, this is where he is as Hojlund is about to receive it.

He starts to curve the run now

If Casimiro has a better picture of where Garnacho is here, he can play the ball through to him without taking a touch. its the touch that allows Gabriel to adjust slightly.

So if anything its a shame that it was Casemiro there and not Eriksen or Bruno. Bruno for sure attempts that pass first time without a touch.
You can’t be serious. Yes he curved his run but he didn’t need to take off till it was passed. He didn’t actually so badly, he stayed inline with Gabriel, Gabriel was smart enough to step up. He’ll learn next time to be behind the last defender and not inline

That's ridiculously harsh on Casemiro there. He took a good touch to get the ball away under his feet from what was a clever but slightly awkward ball to control from Hojlund and then played a first time through ball all on his weaker foot in literally, what 2 seconds?

It all started iirc from a Bruno interception and then in typical Bruno fashion he plays a loose pass in front of Casemiro (where he could have possibly played a first time through ball/chipped pass to a running Garnacho if it was right) but both he and Hojlund had to check their run.

I wasn't being harsh, If he makes that pass first time its an amazing pass. I just think a more creative player might have a better picture of things in front of him and make the pass first time.

I cant be serious yet you think Garnacho needs to wait until Casemiro passes to start his run?

Again im not blaming Casemiro, Its an unfortunate moment. A mili second or 2 made the difference.

Yeah I don’t think we can’t criticise the timing of the run. It was perfect. - tenths of a second and he’s onside.

The problem we now have (one of many) if our best 2 players e.g Alejandro and Marcus are both happiest and most productive from the left. We need to figure out how to shoe horn them both into the team without Marcus going through the middle or to the right!
I think Ten Hag needs to be more willing to sub out Marcus in certain scenarios. Pellistri coming on yesterday or another fresh legs option who is comfortable on the right would allow us to keep up an aggressive press and counter attack later into these games.

Curious on where you all think he can play with with Rashford on the left? Any chance he can go on the right? Or? I'd like for him to get some starts besides random cup games etc....

Still sad that goal was disallowed the other day. That was on the moments you live for as a fan....

yeah rashford looked absolutely gassed. Always a big call to take him off but think EtH shouldve done that.

Well, yeah, mere 100ths in fact. A tenth of a second is half a metre (or more) at the speed they’re moving.

i would love to see the offside rule changed to being pretty much the exact opposite. so instead of any body part that can score being in front is offsides, you have to be fully out in front. Yeah you still have decisions of millimeters and shit but at least having your whole body that millimeter forward seems a lot more of an advantage than possibly having an armpit off or whatever weird lines they draw now.

I think he’ll do it (sub Rashford off) when more players are fit and when Rasmus is settled. Garnacho for Rashford is a great sub to be able to do. Oppos would be relieved about Rash going off and then Oh Shit it’s fecking Garnacho. Give them no peace.

On the other side, Pellistri for Antony, yeah, why not? He always looks potent when he’s fresh and the opponent is tiring. He goes after it a bit more than Antony.

Doing this as a double sub would be cool.

Yes that how you stay onside when you know you have the beating of the defender for pace. He'll learn in future, he curved but set off forward to quickly (whilst inline) which allow Gabriel to step up.
Its not really a criticism, just something I think he will learn from

Just measure from the feet and we have a better and more exacting assessment.

Rule is fine, he was offside in the currant age of pixel fecking football to death.

Credit to Gabriel.

Garnacho did everything right as well, football at the highest levels gives you milliseconds to react. Doesn't take away from the great play between Casemiro/Hojlund and Garnacho.

Did he get called up with the national team with Licha?

Yes, he got called up.

Waiting until 10 minutes to go until we brought him on was….strange? Another one that’s in ETH’s bad books? Because I can’t see another reason why he’d bring Martial & Hannibal on ahead of Garnacho, such constantly bizarre tactical decisions.

He's pretty ineffective right now when teams are sitting deep. His decision making is awful sometimes, he has an open pass to a teammate yet tries to dribble past a player into that exact same space instead of playing a give and go and ends up being dispossessed. Hopefully that's something that will be coached out of him. He could be great, but he's not as good as he thinks he is at the moment.

He’s obviously a rough diamond but he came on at Arsenal and almost instantly won the game for us. He has that ability to produce something out of nothing, which is exactly what we needed today.

To bring on Martial & Hannibal over him today just seemed very strange. And then to leave it so late to finally bring him on even stranger.

You could moan about those things if his competition wasn't Rashford, but since it is, and Rashford is worse at all those elements, I think it's fair to say Garnacho should be playing more.

He really is worse than Rashford at those elements and is unable to pick a pass like Rashford or consistently beat his man. He actually looked dangerous yesterday, but his finishing was just a bit off. Have you forgotten Garnacho's displays in our first two games and how often he lost the ball? He might be better than him one day, but he's not even close yet. He might press better, but that's it.

Your username doesn't exactly fill me with hope when it comes to your rating of young prospects either. Just remember that it's a lot easier for an attacker to come on against tired legs and look dangerous, compared to playing the whole 90 minutes.

The Arsenal game was a totally different scenario with them chasing the win. Garnacho doesn't actually have a single goal or assist when United are trailing which backs up the point that he is great when the game is open, but pretty ineffective when we're up against a team that's in the lead and happy to sit back and soak up pressure then hit us on the counter.

I stand by the opinion that he is the perfect player to bring on in a tight game where there is space in behind to exploit, but he's not yet at the level to unlock a tight defensive unit that is protecting a lead. He's only 19 and needs time to develop that side of his game.

Saying that, we all knew Martial wasn't going to be the guy to inspire a comeback either.

Garnacho needs to improve his playmaking to take that next step, would really like to see him learn how to integrate himself into a game a bit lower on the field, not always playing as last man off the shoulder.

He has a lot of talent though so really happy with his progress so far.

Rashford is twice the player Garnacho is at the moment and is by far our main goal threat. Yes he's not playing brilliantly at the moment, but he's the player that the opposition always fears.

I didn’t say he wasn’t but that post was garbage. Rashford is a good player but he’s got the worst decision making in the squad. Using that as the example why Garnacho isn’t playing is stupid.

He decision making is poor. But its not the worst in the squad most of our attackers made poor decisions. Antony was far worse

You need to realise the South American players were probably playing football at 4-5am on Tue/Wed and then had to fly back to Manchester.

To ask them to play 48 hours later against a Top 6 contender is very difficult.

I feel Garnacho should get more time on as a sub. at least 20 + extra time. With his pace and skills we can be more aggressive. And i think he is the best player you want at the end of our counter attacks.

Gave Bayern issues when he came on as an impact sub (still the best use of him at this stage, admittedly). Likewise, was 6 inches/a fussy VAR away from putting us 2.1 against Arsenal and 70/30 or so chance of winning the game at that point. He still looks raw at times - but so does Hojlund up top. Still trust him more on the wing than I trust most of our (generally more experienced) midfielders in their respective positions.

He is bad defensively, and Reguillon is not exactly the best defender either, so in that type of game I can fully understand not putting him in, they had to win, ugly or not.

Sooner or later he’s gonna wanna leave… he’s to decent to be on the bench all the time when people like Rashford get picked every single game despite being shite.
