Greenwood was an excellent talent and it was clear as day how good he was at 15, however I think he could've been generational, he's certainly the most talented teenager I've ever seen at United but I don't think he was generational. His form was patchy and to me it looked like his bad habits were becoming set in stone, mainly due to the poor coaching we had at the time. I felt his eventual level would've ended up more akin to Rashford (which is still good) rather than a top 10 level player which I think he could've reached.

I also think it's also fair to say that Garnacho's impact on the first team has been nothing short of incredible, even Greenwood's early performances weren't this good. His game so far has been remarkably well polished, his decision making has been top notch, he just plays like he's been a first team player for a decade. He's been better for the first team than he ever was for the academy, it's pretty astonishing. I feel Iqbal may end up in a similar boat when given the chance on the back of his pre-season performances, sometimes players just seem to have it.

It's not a Greenwood thread we have to remember, but Greenwood under ETH with no behind the scenes crap would be one of the best finishers in world football honestly, he literally had rockets for feet.

I see a lot of early winger Bale as well as a bit of young Ronnie in him in how penetrative his running is and the threat he brings from deep areas

Really like him, direct, brave, confident. Too early to anoint him but potential for a serious player there.

And "Generational talent" can we stop with that horseshit US term.

He will make the All Star Team this year. With all his MVP awards and hit rate.

I hope people are ready for Madrid and Barcelona to start fluttering their eyelashes.

I second this. Silly term that’s become popular with the social media “generation”.

Have we renewed him al ready? Last information I read was that we were preparing to consider to analyze if we offer him an extension.

What is the criteria for naming someone "generational" ?

I agree. Generational was perhaps too much. However he was an incredible talent.

All fair points. Not generational. But I still feel he could have reached the levels of a top 10 player as you say.

Greenwood would have surpassed Rashford. He had it all. Undoubtedly would have went to a new level under Ten Hag.

Transfermarkt says 2023, but I’ve seen mentioned by journalists that he has a contract until 2025
Hopefully the latter is correct.
that 2023 stuff has been circulating online for quite a while, but IIRC several UK journalists have debunked this and reiterated it's 2025. Hopefully there's a renewal coming soon, then it's a moot point anyway.

Summer 2025

The contract talk now is simply because he makes about 2k a week. So we need to give him a bump if he's playing for the 1st team regularly.

2K a week! Even I earn more than that. Then again, not at 18 years of age that's for sure.

Madrid have 22 year old Vinicius Jr in his position. Barca will probably be taking free transfers for the next decade.

He'll be our starter from the left next season.

He might be from January 1st, the way he's going.
Seriously though, Rashford will probably play most matches on the left, and probably occasionally CF, so Garnacho will get quite a few games, and sub appearances, but it certainly will be interesting to see what ETH does at the start of next season.

Played 4 games. Scored 2 goals, Asissted 2 goals, won us 3 games. Such a cluch player already. He definitely has the X factor. Praying that he can live up to his potential.

For sure. United can make it easier to keep him if they start winning things again though.

Still got a fair bit to do before any of that though.

He’s even faster than I thought. Their fullback is rapid and didn’t let Rashford get an inch off of him, yet Garnacho sped past him like it was Gary Neville on his last legs.

Winning us games already. What a beast. I can't believe he reached that Eriksen pass. His acceleration is crazy.

I really like the South American flavor our team has at the moment and Garnacho already on the heels of Sancho (I have nothing against him, it's just facts)... We are turning into a fun team to watch, especially if he will be a part of it with Antony on the other wing...

Such a bright spark winning us the game in a horrible second half.

Nothing is better than seeing players you have watched in the academy break into the first team like this.

Next season I hope Mejbri or Laird do the same unless they get a PL loan.

Dunno about his top speed but his acceleration is insane. Reminiscent of Michael Owen before he torched his hamstrings.
His acceleration is insane. Lennon/Owen vibes for sure. In terms of top speed, we haven’t seen him in a 40 yard foot race yet, but I would think he’s more of a short bursts type of player, which we are sorely lacking.

He ran half the pitch with Douglas Luis on his heels mid-week and absolutely rinsed him

Garnacho is a real deal. I hope he keeps himself focused and keeps improving.

What I hate about it is that, if he does become great, we will 100% lose him to Real Madrid or Barca.

So fecking annoying to feel like an Ajax fan, when Spanish teams come poaching :D

Forgot about that, which I even commentes on. You are right. luis isn’t slow either. He’s got top speed for sure. I said not quite young Giggs, which I stand by, but not many do. Reminds me of a young Giggsy. Hope he’s nicer.

I don't see the need for him to start as some are calling for. He's coming on in perfect conditions against tiring defences, his last two performances of the bench have been amazing. His pace and directness late in the game is a nightmare for opposing fullbacks.

He's still very young and I trust EtH will develop him far better than Moyes did with Januzaj where he ran him into the ground.

Having said that Garnacho's speed and ability to leave players behind really is special. You can get speed merchants like Dan James and Walcott but the way Garnacho beats players with pace is reminiscent of Kaka, its beautiful to watch.

Even though very different in physique, he reminds me of a young David Ginola in how he is able to dribble comfortably with the ball on both feet taking touches with either of them and his ability to pass and shoot with either. Has a similar way of attacking players with his dribbling too and getting them back pedalling.

I agree. Garnacho, Antony, Casemiro and Martinez is really bringing the passion, energy and spirit to the team that we’ve really missed. It’s been hard to like this team over the last few years but we’ve become a likeable team again with some very likeable players.

People saying they are scared we will lose him to Real and Barca, how many players have we lost to those clubs? I hear this all the time as if we’ve been their feeder club for years.

Especially now with the money in football, players won’t be moving from one big club to another due to the astronomical cost and if and when Garnacho gets to that level that the big boys in Spain want him, they’ll have to pay £100m upwards which they can’t afford.

I've watched the goal a few times, the pass from Eriksen wasn't particularly good. Garnacho's ridiculous acceleration got him there
