Alas poor Carrick...WTF has happened?

Of course it rhymes, but that would be inappropriate.

The world's largest gold producer is called Barrick.

Our boy Carrick
At one point we wanted him sold/Teammates with the lad who killed Stuart Holden
Nothing to do with Barrick
But this midfielder is gold/golden

To be fair though, why does it even have to rhyme with anything!? A lot of songs with player names don't rhyme the name with anything... Like Ronaldo for instance... or John O'Shea, or Ryan Giggs... etc. etc.

Could even be

He'll pass to the left, he'll pass to the right
Michael Carrick
He'll pass it all night.

Or something like that.

Carrick, whoaa
Carrick, whoaa,
He came from Wallsend,
Delivered to the Stretford End.

Nah that's shit, he should just add the 'inho' to his name. It's not expensive

Just spotted him in Qatar watching the golf. Taller than I thought unless he was surrounded by midgets

Is it safe to say that he's the one player who needs to be fully fit for us to be successful this season. Even RVP, can be replaced with Rooney/Welbeck. But any injuries to Carrick and we are royally fecked.

What do you mean, nothing rhymes with Carrick?

A class act is our Michael Carrick
His passing is old style Magyar-ic
Always in the right place
Attacking the space
Opponents think it’s just barbaric

Err. OK I see your point.

It's funny over the past month that so many commentators and pundits have praised him asking "what's changed in his game" or "why has it taken so long to get the credit". Merson was adamant he should be playing for England but hadn't voiced this opinion before.

My point (as with De Gea) is it only takes one journalist to form an opinion and everyone else follows blindly. Although not everybody's favourite, Carrick has been integral to United for 5 odd years but it shows you how much football the 'experts' watch when they're only commenting on it now. It makes you think - theres about 7 hours from kick off to the airing of MOTD. There's no way they can watch all the games and dissect them, so what are they basing their opinions on?!?

Anyway it's nice to see Carrick get some praise - he's been excellent this season.

Will he ever get a rest? Does he even need one?

He was rested fairly in the last matches and besides the way he intelligently plays football isn't energy consumming like Anderson's.Carrick knows how to manage his energy/fatigue levels very well.
I'm not worried about him getting tired but only about him getting injured

He was barely in 3rd gear today, and he still did a fine job.

Couple of scary moments. A couple of crazy hospital passes around our own box had me wiping my brow.

Shite journo's spouting gobshite shocker.

Always love Carrick since he's signed for us. But to be fair to those 'journalists', Carrick has taken his performance to different level this season. He's not afraid of getting yellow card to 'stamp' his presence, and his passing is more crispier and adventurous. He's finally taking the mantle as our main man in midfield from Scholes and Giggs. Of course it helps by having a mobile and skillful partner in Cleverley, and RvP who loves to drop deep also.

Yeah I find that quite a lot, I think in the media you're either someone they like, don't like or are just in no mans land where someone has formed an opinion of you based on one game and hasn't bothered to check since and they all go round saying that same thing.

It's funny over the past month that so many commentators and pundits have praised him asking "what's changed in his game" .....
What changed in his game is he has been back to his brilliant best since the start of last season. Many had forgotten how good he actually is. Even going as far as claiming he wasn't cut out to being a creative outlet from center midfield for a team like ours.

Some of it though is what he has been doing over all these years, shielding the defence, moving the ball on simply. Agree completely that he's started to take more responsibility in midfield in terms of making things happen, that's something he's always annoyed me with as we know he can do it, but a lot of the stuff he's getting praise for is things hes been doing for the vast majority of his time here but never really gotten much credit for it.

Michael pass the ball ashore, hallelujah...

I did one of those a few years ago:

To the tune of Michael Row The Boat Ashore

Julius Caesar can feck off home
Halleluuu-jah

Hallelu-u-jah.

He dicked on Totti, the fecking twat
Hallelu-u-jah

Shove it up your arsehole, Martin Jol
Halleluuu-jah

Hallelu-u-jah

By the father, son and the holy ghost, man
Halleluuu-jah

There's also a version about Steve Gerrard's mum boning various members of the animal kingdom.

Honestly he hasn't merely taken up more responsibility. He has simply returned to his true form. He was an imposter for about 2 and half seasons after the Barca nightmare final then he real him came back..

When we last won in Europe he spent the season having the most responsibility in midfield and he delivered beautifully. He is now playing in that fashion again. Which is how he had been playing at Spurs when he enticed us to buy him.

Very good game from him I thought. He really is in good form at the moment. Hope it stays that way

I don't think he was that bad, he's undoubtedly playin better now but like I said a lot of the stuff he's getting credit for now he was always doing but It went largely unnoticed.

Paper's saying he'll get a 1 year extension in the summer, I know he's 31 now and will be 32/33 by the end of next season when his contract is due to expire but it seems crazy not to tie players like him and Vidic down to longer contracts (I know it's club policy to only give 1 year deals)

one of the first name on the team sheet, speak volume about the importance of carrick to united these days.

I don't think he is "one of the first names on team sheet", he is actually THE first name on team sheat for almost two years, except at the start of last season when we had Ando and Cleverley partnership for month or so.

''It went unnoticed'' was the favourite excuse of people defending that bad form. Carrick currently is several levels above the player he was during the slump.

Personally I've always though the talk of his play going unnoticed was and is still lazy. Carrick at his consistent best is not a sight you can ever ignore. Even on a quiet day for him. For he is the definition of effective when he is on song. That is why his bad days are overly noticeable.

All action players tend to hide their bad spells better than players of Carrick's type.

The only sustained "slump" I remember was after the string of games he played at centre back a couple of seasons ago. Other than that I think he's played as the team has demanded. Can't help feeling that a lot of the criticism he's taken is basically for not being Keane (or Scholes).

I wasn't saying he was at his best, just simply not as bad as most liked to make out, he did his job without really contributing as much as he coild with his talent. An unlike when he is on form and he can shine regardless of his partner, then it made it all the more evident out problems in the middle, scholes lack of legs got exposed, unfortunately during carricks biggest slump fletchers illness was surfacing as well.

There's no doubt he playing much better now or rather for most of the last 18 months or so, but that wasn't been he was poor before which is sometimes the perception, he was still playing a big part in our competitiveness, but was undoubtedly playing with himself.

So are you saying, in a nutshell, he is a great footballer who could have been even better if he didn't spend a significant part of every game wanking?

Very true. I've heard a few people saying that he's been at this level for 6-7 seasons straight and is only finally getting noticed for it now... It's complete hogwash. 07-09 he was playing like this and wasn't criticised, then from 2009 until Christmas last year he went through a sustained period of poor form, which our fans criticised him heavily for. I personally wasn't sure that he'd ever recover, given how long he was out of form.

It really irks me that we rightfully complain about critics rehashing the same opinion, whilst at the same time spouting cliche's like "he's finally getting the praise his performances have always deserved", or "he's one of those players only people who watch him every week understand/appreciate". He is getting praised now because he is playing very well and wasn't before because he wasn't, as simple as that.

Although Persie is clearly the best player in the League, it would be a nice touch and a great boost for Michael Carrick if he were to be voted Player of the Season. Persie will probably win it again, and in fairness, as is the norm, Carrick hasn't been great for the entire season by any stretch. For his personal recognition though, would be nice.

I remember reading somewhere that Carrick is one of the players that other players most appreciate his presence on the pitch and when quizzed who is most important, I will try to find the article as its clear pundits/press may not appreciate him, but glad to know those who share the pitch with him, know his worth.
