Television Alan Partridge-Funniest thing on tv

I'm about halfway through the book at the moment. It's fantastic. But the footnotes piss me off, as I'm reading it on an e-reader. I have to go to the end of the chapter and back every time there's one. Obviously I could skip them but they're really funny, so I don't want to miss out.

Jackanackaory!

Was he in character the whole time?

Yes, he came out and did a bit about Manchester and what the ancient Romans would have made of the Trafford Centre food court then read some extracts from the book. We got in in good time but we were queueing for about an hour and a half. I had serious reservations about subjecting the kids to it but we had no babysitters and I thought (like Homer taking about Mr. T) that I'd deeply regret not going. He was great though, said my daughter was "a little cutie".

That's fairly epic, Ed. Alan Partridge. I love that man.

I'm a bit annoyed that the bloke who took that photo had zero photography skills. If you are going to have people take your photos at least they should understand that the subjects of the photo should be the prominent part of it. I had to crop it to buggery and the quality of it is appalling. Still, glad I went. The range of trademark Partridge faces he made for the hundreds of photos was immense - it seemed as though it was never the same one twice.

The book is fecking hilarious. I got it for a work colleague for Xmas and have been reading it before wrapping it up

Got my mum the audio version.

I watched episode 8 of Mid-Morning Matters last night (the one where Alan gets up to read the papers and be the guest on another show). I almost choked to death! Dont eat and watch Mid-Morning Matters at the same time!

My fave episode is the one where he has to put on a speech and pyrotechnic display for that south african fella then puts his foot on a spike and throws up... brilliant.

This???

Yeah, happened to me on Thursday night whilst at work and the first thing that popped in to my head was this clip.

Been watching Knowing Me, Knowing You for the first time in years recently.

I was in absolute stitches when I saw this part:

It's a look that says: "I'm in control of my vehicle"

I've been having trouble sleeping, so I decided to watch an episode on YouTube to help. Three episodes in and I'm still wide awake. The show is really funny

I just can't stand the laugh track. I grew up on American TV, and I've always hated the track. Shows lately that employ the track seem to be ones that aren't that funny and they employ the track to make people think they are watching something funny.

Are there many really good British shows in the 90s that were legitimately funny but still employed the laugh track? I just don't get why it is necessary in this case...

The best thing Sorkin did with Sports Night was getting rid of that laugh track.

As far as I know I'm Alan Partridge doesn't used canned laughter. It's all filmed on sets in front of a live studio audience so the laughter you hear is real.

Really? It still bugs me. Have you ever seen 10:00 Live, Charlie Brooker's new show? There is a live studio audience there too, and I have never been able to get into the show.

Yep

Although there’s no live audience or a laughter track any more…
Henry Normal: It was real laughter [on I'm Alan Partridge] and on some occasions we'd have to turn it down because people thought that it was false. It was just that people were enjoying it so much by the last series that the audience was probably laughing when he walked in. I prefer it without laughter personally. You watch a lot of comedy films and they don't have a laughter track.

I don't have such a problem with it if the show is funny in the first place but when it isn't, it just seems to add insult to injury. "Laugh at this bit, it's hilarious!"

The studio audience laughter doesn't bother me much but I would like to hear it without. Is it even possible though, as surely there would be bleed-through on the boom mics.
