Ajax - Man Utd | EL Final Build-up Thread

You are right. But to be honest how often has Manchester United had a good day in recent weeks, months or even this season? I am not saying I've watched every Manchester United match this season. But I've seen a fair few and I've read enough match reports which suggests Manchester United have been underwhelming for most parts of the season. Reading this forum basicly confirms that. That's why I am not really considering United with a very good day. It could happen, but it's not really likely. United don't need a good day to beat Ajax though. But United do need a good day to beat Ajax when Ajax is on or close to it's best. If Ajax is on it's best United will need to play at a level that they haven't shown much in this season (maybe even in the last few seasons) to win. That's why for me Ajax's form of the day will be crucial.

We've played well for large periods of this season to be honest. The thing we've struggled with has been conversion rate, not our overall control of games.

The last few weeks our control of games has tailed off, but I put that down to tiredness more than anything and with most of our players rested for the last 3 games I think we'll be in a good position to win this one, regardless of whether Ajax are at their best or not. That isn't to be dismissive of Ajax just I probably rate this United side higher than most on here.

We've got;

Pogba looking like he is in decent form of late. Controlling games and having an impact on them in the final 3rd.

A solid defensive structure. Whilst I don't particularly rate our defenders too highly the structure Mourinho has set up is clearly working as we have a good defensive record.

A rested Rashford, he had been looking tired around the EL semi stage so a decent rest for him can only be a good thing.

Big game experience. Pogba, Mata, Mhki, Carrick all have the experience in playing in these big games. Something that can't be understated on one off occasions such as this, experience can be key.

Now don't get me wrong I can see the potential for you guys to cause us problems if we aren't on our game, however I'm just confident that Jose will have us set up right and the players will be on song and get the job done.

How is it debatable? Jose is more successful than any manager your country has ever had but yet you talk of him as he's some back water peasant who doesn't know shit about football.
Depends on what your definition of success is. If you just look at prizes with extremely rich clubs he just edges it, but if you look at truly great achievements he can't match Rinus Michels, Johan Cruijff and Louis Van Gaal.

He did great with Porto of course, and winning the CL with Inter was very good too, but that is a long time ago and his current team plays like they're managed by a bck water peasant who doesn't know shit about football.

Sorry to say but hearing you talking about Ajax makes me think they're the new Barca.
Everybody knows it's the other way around.

The name Johan Cruyff should explain it.

If he's talking about what about Cruyff converting Barca to what they're, then this has nothing to do with my point.

The post I commented on was overrating Ajax as if they're unstoppable force and the new Barce arising, I don't want to talk about history.

Ajax is a good team but definitely not as what some here make them look like.

That's exactly what everyone (United and non-United alike) was saying about Van Gaal during his time here.

I have not seen that once

Could you not post the relevant bits here so we don't have to click that link? Do the dirty work so the rest of us don't have to.
Ok I'll try with my limited IT skills!

FERGIE TIME
Sir Alex Ferguson turns up to Manchester United training ahead of Europa League final with Ajax… but can you guess which star made his own shock trip?

SIR ALEX FERGUSON surprised Manchester United stars when he turned up to training ahead of their huge Europa League final on Wednesday.

But the ex-manager’s presence wasn’t the only bombshell in store ahead of the trip to Stockholm.

But the biggest shock was the arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimovic who was hiding in the backseat
Last week crocked star Zlatan Ibrahimovic hinted that he was ‘ready’ for the final in a cryptic Instagram post.

And it appears the Swede is keen to be involved some way or another after he made a shock appearance at United’s Carrington training complex.

Is anyone here heading to the game?

Any chance you might start up this chant in teh 26th minute?

What inaccuracies and resentments?

Don't even know where to start, from constantly suggesting how Mourinho is obviously doing a lot worse than Van Gaal while spending hundreds of millions more, and that his only tactics at United this season have been parking the bus in every single game, basically implying he's the most negative and vile manager that has ever coached a football team and implying the whole world has now lost all respect for Manchester United because of him, while everything Ajax has done this season is so awesome.

Then there's the ludicrous comparisons between players - I'm getting wound up again just typing this - I've heard the weirdest shit, people who clearly haven't watched United more than twice this season giving expert opinions on our individual players.

Can't really slate the Dutch media for inaccuracies in discussions when we have to listen to Sky Sports in the UK talk out of their ass.

To be fair I hardly ever follow Sky Sports - I imagine it's the same type of shite only seen through British-tinted glasses.

Sounds thought provoking. Thanks.

I fully expect the game to be absolute torture to watch.

If we win, and I think we will, it'll go right down to the last second. Never do anything the easy way.
A torture because so much is at stake. A win will look like the beginning of something, a loss…

I think we'll be made to sweat (do we do it any other way?), but will come out on top in normal time. Expecting a big game from Pogba and for once the talk will be about his performance and not the 300 million we spent on him.

I'am afarid if I'am destined to ever get a hearth attack it might be during this game, nervous as feck for it !

Please United for once make it easy and kill the game off early, my hearth will thank you

Go on any English news site (Star, Mail, Sun..etc) and you'll see a bigger build up and more articles about us being in the Europa feckin League Final than when Chelsea were in the CL final
