African Cup of Nations 2021 (played in 2022) | Final: Senegal v Egypt, 7 PM UK time

Egypt are definitely winning this. Senegal have had more than enough chances to score.

When you stop and think about it. Extra time is a weird concept. Two teams haven't scored in 90 minutes, what's going to change in another 30. Just get to penalties. It's a waste of time more often than not.

Someone did look at how often extra time ends up going to penalties. They looked at CL, EL, Euros and WC games between 1970 and 2017.

Out of 472 matches in that period, 233 have gone on to penalties, so actually we do end up finding a winner half the time.

Another boring game to round off the tournament. I was hoping for a game like yesterday. The quality of this tournament has been largely awful. Not sure a 24 team format does anyone any favours.

Well if the refs weren't so bent then you might have had the likes of Comoros knocking out Cameroon which would have been superb. Burkina Faso were fun as well, it's really been the big teams that have let us down for entertainment, as well as the shitty pitches and refereeing of course.

The pitches have been the biggest problem

Oh I give up now.. I don't care who wins, just as long as none of Salah and Mane miss either of their pens and one of them ends up coming back bawling their eyes out.

Well Mané already messed one up and doesn't seem bothered, hopefully a 2nd will floor him though!

Koulibaly is so good. Almost Van Dijk-esque.

Can't see it happening for the 3rd time. When was the last time a team won 3 PK shootouts in one tournament ?

Unfortunately I think this Egyptian goalie will save a few.

Mandy seems to be a terrible pen specialist so Egyptians have the edge here i suppose.
