Not this again, you know someone did, via his agent.

I still want Kante though at least he is influential enough to the team that you are willing to trade it for some negatives. I would trade Pogba+Rabiot for Kante. I cant be looking at Pogba and Martial the same anymore after they wanted out. Varane excluded. I really like him, just havent been fortunate with the timing of his injuries and changing of managers. Yeah I am subjective.

And that was point. Those negatives that you think you will accept, wouldn't be acceptable when it is in your team and the team is doing poorly.

Have we got to the point where where we’re considered finished considering this deal? Club must be on commission for clicks on shite posted about it

The three French players I mentioned and their own respective stuggles at United was a fact, not an attempt to blame the whole nation. Jesus. People are so easily offended these days. At no point did I say we need to avoid French players. We just need to stop signing the ones with attitude issues. I'd give my left bollock for Kante if he was available.
Oh feck, I never accused it either. Relax

If this truly wasnt a panic buy, why didnt we go for him earlier in the summer, considering he doesnt cost much and was available? Then we could have integrated him into the side over pre-season.

Its possible Ten Hag wanted to evaluate McTominay and Garner

Im with this. There’s a load of holes which need fixing. Like De Gea as an example. But we can’t do it all in one window. He probably thought he could managed with just one midfield recruit for this window. But after Sunday he seen what we’ve been seeing for ages.

It's possible, but for me that approach doesn't align with the reports that he's obsessed with the finer details and presented an outstanding dossier to the club. It would be cause for concern if he hadn't already identified the significant shortcomings of several players (including McTominay) and instead he needed one competitive match to come to that conclusion. McTominay is 25 afterall and there is comprehensive data available on his performances for club and country.

Quite obviously he wouldnt be able to come to a proper conclusion before working with the player himself. That being said, first thing he wanted in terms of transfers was upgraded midfield right? Eriksen and De Jong, which he doesn’t have

I’m sure he prides himself on improving players. If he’s aware he has a £150m budget he know he can’t replace 6 positions in one summer.

As bad as Mctominay is he’s worked with Klassen and Haller. Mctominay to me has also seemed like a guy who follows instructions well and has a great frame for this league and a CM in general. If I was a manager I would want to work with him.

But after seeing the way he carried out instructions against a mid table team. ETH must have thought this guy will get me sacked.

Do you think we will sell McT if we get Rabiot? We already have a lot of #8s in Bruno, Eriksen, VdB, McT and now Rabiot.

No idea, doubt it because Bruno, Eriksen, VdB are not the same profile as McT

Bruno and arguably VdB/Eriksen are not competing with McT for place. They are competing for the AMC position.

If we have Bruno, Eriksen and VdB all fighting for one place, that's just terrible squad planning.

This is how ETH has setup :

Bruno/VdB McT/Eriksen
--------- Fred/Garner

So it makes sense if Rabiot comes in, we will be selling one of our #8s. If we get FdJ, he slots in for Garner.

Garner will probably go on loan. I don’t see anyone being sold. It’s a long season and Bruno and Eriksen will go to the World Cup.

Shouldn't make a difference should it? The league is stopping for a month.

I didn't had this name on my mind. Whole summer. A bit surprise i was.

But if it's true Ten Hag want him. I think it is for the ability to control, dictate, calm on the ball against aggresive pressure. Set and speed up the tempo of build up and attack/speed up the passing from the deep. And ability to make run forward with the ball. Not only passing. Like Frenkie De Jong. But clearly not on Frenkie De Jong level.

But without Frenkie De Jong and the question about if James Garner has a really close to top and top 4 level. Rabiot become the alternative cm option. The one that dictate from the deep.

That is what Rabiot is good at. His clearly football ability.

That was the football skill. But the mentality. If he has the top mentality too. He can turn out to be a really good player for United. But i do not know Rabiot in person or following him closely as football player.

But again. Isolate football skill. He is above all of United current cm player. I haven't seen James Garner for and against a top level team yet. Fred, McTom, Savage, Zidane, DVB. Rabiot overall football skill is above those players. Only Garner i saw few minutes in pre season.

Line up with Rabiot can be like this in a 433 formation:

Eriksen - Rabiot/Fred/Garner - Bruno/Rabiot + Sanho - Martial/Ronaldo - Rashford

In the end. It depend on his price and wage too. The total packet. But again. Football skill isolate. I believe and convince he will help and lift United. In the build up play and attack. The creative part of game.

Thing is, in the 21st century, technology to record events and rewatch them on a screen exists. It gives you all the information you need regarding McTominay's abilities.

Sure, take your time evaluating Garner who's a young player at the start of his career, pretty much completely new to top level football. But McT is not an unknown quantity.

So for our managers summer homework he Sat in his room and watched videos of all of our players? Looking for what exactly?

The fact people believe these type of things happen is alarming.

Explain to me how this would of went with this 21st century technology?

I mean, yes, I would bloody well hope that he watched/analysed at least a few Manchester United games from the past season or two! Do managers just go in blind, knowing feck all about the players they're about to manage? That would be really odd.

What you are suggesting is that Sunday was the first time Ten Hag ever saw McTominay in a competitive game. I hope that isn't the case...

Why shouldn't this be possible? I mean, granted, the head coach certainly doesn't have to do it by himself but there should be someone in the squad (someone ETH in this case trusts) who can create a profile of the players at hand. Of course he doesn't have to watch all games from start to finish 15 times to focus on one player per time, but there are so many technologies today that can be used, heck there are content creators out there who will create an "All touches of ... against ..." Video in a matter of 30min.

Ahh I see, got confused.

That being said, the months after the World Cup I can see lots of injuries occuring.

Me too. Which is why I think top 4 is a big possibility this season is going to be one of them weird ones.

No he’ll have to do his research but that’s a lot of detail to have an individual analysis on each player to decide who stays and goes. Which is what was originally indicated.

He would of watched a few games decided where we failed on tactics what he would do and what he requires.

That doesn’t mean he’s equipped to decide what’s the most pressing issue without personally accessing the team first.

He identified he needed a connector and who that would be. But I honestly think he didn’t assume the other midfielders would be so bad he would have to budget for two.

We obviously know different we watched a lot more games than him.

I’m just glad McTominay gave the best of his worst on Sunday. It was glaring obvious where the issues were.

So you have never come to a proper conclusion on a united player then? You would need to work with the player first?

It's just strange he subbed Fred first and not McTominay, nobody of us knows if he rates McT. Common logic would say he doesn't.

I'm not a football manager, so no not a PROPER conclusion, I don't want training etc

I'm perfectly okay with this as one of two. Maybe, just maybe it will actually work out for us. Getting an experienced player at the top levels of the game for a paltry sum which allows another signing (that may appeal more to the critics on here) would be fairly logical. It allows us to boost the midfield in a cost effective way.

It's not strange when you consider that he replaced the connector with an other connector. It was a big issue for us and it was the correct move. It seems that Fred isn't relied on as the defensive box to box.

Wouldn't be my first pick but for 17/18m, CL and international experience and at his peak at age 27 this is a no brainer for me. Our midfield is absaloutely shite. He would be a definite improvement on existing options.

It's a pity we didn't sign him and Bisouma over the summer which would have cost us less than Martinez.

Lindelof, Elanga, DVB, Bailey, Henderson and AWB should all have been sold to finance our summer spending. Best part of 150m there and none of them would be missed.

Well, thank feck for that.

I could have told him that, though.

And I'm an idiot who usually watches our games in a state of mild to severe inebriation.

Yeah, makes sense.
