Accepting soemone who isn;t as good as the players our direct competitors are buying because he's better than mctominay is exactly how standards are allowed to decline constantly.

If we are serious about CL and challenging for trophies, then the signings need to put us ahead of spurs, arsenal, chelsea and so on.

This signing does not. As a squad player that would be fine, as a first teamer, its accepting we are not even trying to get back to the top.
 
Shocking and terrible signing. Given what we needed at the start of this window and there was an opportunity to reset the wrongs of the last few seasons, I think this will go down as one of the worst signings the club has made. It’s not going to be as expensive mistake as a Hazard or Countinho but would be more flawed and has the potential to derail ETH’s stint as our manager.

For those saying that ETH wants him, I don’t think the fact pattern is supportive. After we couldn’t deliver the players he wanted, I think he let the club choose in desperation and this will turn out to be a big mistake.
 
I would genuinely see us play a MF of Garner, Iqbal, Hannibal or some mix. Play Garnacho on the left. In either scenario (vs where we sign Rabiot) , we are not going to finish in the top 4 and at least in my scenario, we will come out of the season having developed some of our talented youth.

You say they spent £1bn but you fail yo say the other £££ that has left in dividend payments and loan payments (on a loan of £450m-that loan is still there, its roughly same figure, that their dad used to buy the club with all those years ago and still there).

The main problem with the club is that the Glazers aren't held to account nearly enough, theses cretins should be hounded out of the club and until that happens nothing will change unfortunately.

These are points that have been answered to death. Yes, they own the club, so yes, it has now 'come out of their own pockets'. Yes, they have taken dividends, so what? The amount they have taken is a tiny proportion of what we have spent in fees and taking dividends is perfectly normal. Yes they plunged the club into a huge amount of debt but everything they did was perfectly legal.

We can not like the Glazers, that's fine. We can question how they have allowed so many incompetent people to run the business, that's fine.

When we start arguing that we haven't spent enough, we look silly and start losing the argument/any sympathy we might have

I agree and I was in two minds to post my opinion given how bad McF was again and we're no where near FDJ

But I just think someone supposedly as talented as him, with those stats and Juve happy to not offer him a new contracts, is ringing alarm bells in me. I'd much rather see how Garner and Zidane develop than commit to the wages he'll want as I just don't think he'll be that much of an improvement
 
Can someone kindly summarise why Rabiot is known as having a bad attitude?

I vaguely remember stories about some fall outs with teams, and his Mum slagging off his manager at one point maybe??

Apart from the fact that he’s not been very good for Juve and most of their fans want to see the back of him and his mum, he’s also a player on high wages who doesn’t suit us. He’s a McTominay type player, a box-to-box MC. Also, one who picks up the ball and runs with it, but one who isn’t a very good passer. He’s also one who doesn’t play as DM.

I’d rather play Eriksen at 8 and have a good DM with him than Rabiot. And if you want to see the back of McT as an 8 completely, might as well have Iqbal behind Eriksen than bring Rabiot.

The issue you have here is Ten Hag appears to be having a big day in who he wants, in which case a player like Rabiot is key for how the manager wants the team to play.

So no, to me it shows the manager does know what he's doing, and is doing so within the budgetary restraints that United have this window. As I've already mentioned, Rabiot was on the list at the very start of the window, so it's not like it's completely out of the blue.

But its not really their own money, its money the fans use to buy merchandise tickets etc

Loan payments over their tenure has been circa £1bn on a debt of £4/500m does that seem right?

Yeah it’s been brewing like a bad turd for 3-4 seasons. There was me thinking we’d ripped up all prior scouting lists. Someone’s been keeping a cheeky copy

Refused to play as a DM despite it clearly being his best position, with a variety of public and “sources say” statements

numerous arguments wit team mates, about how they were not playing well, despite not being v good himself

mother regularly slating any manager he plays for

Most of this seems to have died down recently though
 
FDJ was the smokescreen so we could negotiate other midfield targets under the radar, 4d chess.
 
Honestly, I don’t think it’s attitude is much worst than the typical modern player.

My problem with him is just that he is an average player who is on wages much higher than what he should be on. I think he could be better than McT slightly or he could be worse if he can’t adapt. There is no scenario in which he solves any of the problems we have. Neves, who isn’t my first choice, has a much higher chance of elevating our midfield.
 
Wow, first Arnautovic and now Rabiot... you guys must be really desperate after that loss yesterday. Barcelona are the ones in big debt but United are the ones making signing like if they were a skint club. :lol: :lol::lol:

1) This hasn't happened yet and might not happen
2) If this was any other club, they'd probably be talking about how clever the buying club are to be getting a French international for £18m

I don't know if Rabiot is good, bad or indifferent...but stop getting so upset by the media. Wait to see if it happens and then at least give the lad a fair chance
 
Regarding his passing. It hasn't always been this bad. It's only this past season that it was down to 82% completion. See previous years for better scale.

This came out of nowhere.

Looked a decent player as a kid at PSG, a bit one paced but a nice left foot and balance on the ball but didn't seem to progress.

For manager mcfrediot is better than just mcfred. ETH should have options. How fdj deal will go nobody knows so better have one already than no one a wise move in my opinion.

Wolves paid £20m for Nathan Collins (if that's even his name?) from Burnley, so I think £18m in todays' market can be considered cut-price.

All I am saying is, I haven't seen much if anything of Rabiot, and I highly doubt that 90% of the people on here have either. We have all said we need 10+ players, we have all said we need to be more aware of contract expirations and free transfers to fill out the squad...well, we have signed Eriksen and (maybe) Rabiot for £18m.

That's two international footballers who are better than what we have for £18m

Is that what excites us and what we all want long-term? Maybe not. But we can't get the players we want until we're a more attractive proposition and even then it's pointless buying one or two star names if they're playing with really poor players.

At least let's wait and see a) if it happens and b) whether he can make a success of it.
 
So what the hell is the point of keeping garner at the club if we are chasing midfielders of this underwhelming standard. Are we going to again let another player who had a promising loan period rot on the bench and watch their stock plummet?
 
Come on United, it's still not too late. Just open up an FM database, filter for passing >18, composure > 15, age > 21 and age < 25 and you'll still do better than whatever the feck this is.

I do wonder though..why not go for Tielemans instead? Prem proven and comes without the attitude. ETH must really rate him because otherwise it doesn’t make too much sense.
 
Should be in addition to a world class CM like FDJ.

Will be an improvement on McCrapinay, but again shows what an appallingly bad club we are. If he was a target of ETH we’d surely have tried to sign him sooner. Judgement done: Murtough, Anrnold, Fletcher are just as bad as what they replaced.

I’m hoping Rabbiot is in addition to De Jong not a plan B. Then might explain it because Tielemans is more creative
