I'm willing to try any alternative to McTominay, "he's no better than McT" - lets put it to the test.

Anyhow, I have faith that he will not be picked any time soon, EtH wants possession football and progressive passes embarassing performance yesterday and his runs forward only meant we were more exposed when he lost the ball.

Think he’s quite decent as the deepest midfielder tbh. Can pass, makes himself available for a pass.

If he adapts to the pace of the PL, think it can be a shrewd signing for that price.

I doubt he is taking much of a pay cut coming to us?

He was signed back when Juve were blowing money on huge wages to every free agent they could get their hands on. They gave Aaron Ramsey 400k a week in the same window so assume Rabiot is on similar, I think it is very unlikely we will go anywhere near his current wage.

That just sounds a lot like Pogba at Utd.

In general I think the club should just avoid French players.

You may want to look up Evra and Cantona.
They weren't bad. Probably before your time from your posting style.

It really isn't a pointless comparison.

I pointed out one player who left for similar money to Raviot with much better quality, how about Kamara who signed for free to Aston Villa? Or are you going to point out that he isn't good enough for us? Or a million other reasons as to why we didn't sign him?

How about Bissouma who outgrew the side who just played us off the park for £25m? Could we not compete with Spurs? Speaking of Spurs, how come we didn't sign Bentacur from Juve for the same price Rabiot is going to cost us? More excuses?
With regards to Bissouma and Gravenberch, they signed for clubs in the CL. I know people think this doesn't matter but it does. Also Kamara and Bissouma are different players than Rabiot. , so we can't say the manager wanted them.

Not against this really considering the state of our midfield. Probably a sideways move at the very worst and potentially a decent improvement

Imagine the Juve directors picking up the phone when United enquired about Rabiot. They've just taken Pogba for free (again) and now they're getting a fee for a player they we're willing to pay to leave

Must be pissing themselves

Then what is the point honestly? If he isn't capable of doing the job to a high enough standard for what should be our minimum requirement, what is the point?

If he becomes a roadblock to future midfield signings because he refuses to leave his high-paying, cushy contract with us, I will really rage. We are absolutely TERRIBLE at moving on unneeded players, and this is my biggest fear with this signing.
One signing isn't going to change much, regardless who it is at this point. If he's part of more signings, then I don't see the problem. I agree the terms will play a big factor in the second part, but until we know that, probably best not to create scenarios to get wound up about.

Of course he is an fdj alternative, we aren’t playing him and fdj in midfield? Who would get forward, unless we are playing rabiot as b2b, you know a position where he is generally considered worse? His defensive capability is where it’s at, for the 60% i of f games he puts in. Tielemans will be brought in as the b2b, a player who was also below average last year and whose chasing back at times was absolutely laughable.

expect to hear him and tielemans announced this week.
I don't see why they couldn't play together to be honest when wed be playing someone like Bruno or Eriksen higher, along with all the other attacker's. Anyway, your point to me shows he's not a FDJ alternative, because we'd have to add another player to get what we want from our midfield. But I understand your point.

wow

Granted I haven’t seen much of him, but everytime I did he was excellent. Surely he’s a better option than Mctominay, and he’s not even old yet.

For me, it's simple. If the coach want's him, I'll give him a chance. If the coach wants him.

I only hope we don't pay over the odds for wages and fees, if this does actually happen.

No idea what his track record and attribute is. Just that he was a darling on FM a few years ago who faded away. One of many such players.

Not looking forward to this but at the same time, it's not McFred so that's something.

Just gonna be a different kind of pain I guess.

He's very talented but from what I read he's a bit of a dick right?
Either way having an actual midfielder would be nice, could well be another waste of resources on someone who's hearts not really in it but we can't continue as we are. If Erik wants him get it done

Juve fans mostly want to get rid as he is on final year of contract and already on obscene wages.

Seemingly his attitude has been fine in recent years.

I don’t even rate him highly but Arthur Melo would’ve been the far better pick if we were that desperate for a Juventus midfielder. At least he can pass on the ball and beat the press a bit.

Do people realise we were discussing Rabiot at the start of the transfer window, and that this isn't a 'panic buy'?

Decent player and will provide good depth for the midfield role. Just hope he doesn't bring his sometimes strange attitude with him.

He's always been good when ive seen him? don't understand the fecking drama in here

Juventus have been desperately trying to offload him. So if we’ve been “discussing” that all summer to only make an offer after the season has started, that’s as bad (if not worse) than panic buying

The problem is Mctominay & Fred are the “Depth”. We need ready to go quality players to walk straight into the team.

He is on big wages at Juve. He isn’t going to take a big paycut to come here given he is only 27. His mommy dearest will make sure of that.

Exactly that's why I said that in theory Eriksen and Rabiot should work, as long as Eriksen is clearly the distributor. On paper he fits the running CM, that ETH likes but that's only on paper.
Tell me honestly what is pl squad player wages? Rabiot is not coming for less than 125k with what he is on now. Plus you have been on here claiming that he is basically a top level, international midfielder. Rabiot is coming in as a first choice cm, whether it’s with eriksen, mcFred or tielemans.

Why though?
He wasn't first choice, that's evident.
If the first choice isn't happening then you move on, I don't really see anything wrong with that.

He's obtainable for a lower cost than usual, young enough to still be in his prime at the club, as long as his attitude is right of course.

Is Rabiot not that? I think he is.

Think his mum is the one who’s the problem as she used to yield too much control over him and had far too much to say. I think people also inferred he wasn’t much of a team player with his refusal to become a DM, added the two together and he became a bigger personality problem that he in fact was.

He’s probably in a bit of a similar position to Martial at this stage, in that he has some talent but it’s not really worked for him and his career so far has been underwhelming. Needs something to happen soon before it just fizzles out entirely.

I’m coming round to the idea of this transfer as we desperately need some bodies in, in midfield. Also, as long as it’s on the right terms and we can get rid quickly if he bombs, so no massive basic salaries.

We still need another midfielder even if we do sign him.

He is a bit of a dick but that's not that big a deal. The problem is his overall attitude. Rabiot is a talented player who doesn't like to hurt himself during practice or on the pitch. He could be dominant since he's physically strong, he could cover a lot of ground as he's pretty fast, he could play as a DM as he's pretty good defensively. He just doesn't want to. He'll have his moments during a game when he'll look real good, carry the ball and move a couple of players in the process, but he'll also walk when he needs to track back a dodge contacts when he doesn't feel like it.

I don't see how it's going to translate well in the PL. He was barely a starter in the worst Juventus team in a decade and they decided to let him go.

Is he better than McFred? Probably yes, but not by much since he checks out when he feels like it.

It's a media source suggesting he's an alternative to FDJ, the club has made no such statement.

It's more likely Rabiot is a relatively risk-free punt given the paltry £15 million sum. It will have no effect on any other business we have planned for this transfer window.

No shit the club haven't made a statement. It is unacceptable if true, if that wasn't clear in the first place.

I remember when we signed Scheniderlin and Bastian - we were saying we finally have the best midfield in the league - look how that turned out. Let this pan out, it’ll take time. We are not an elite club any longer so can’t attract the best currently.

We hired ETH because of his tactics whom unlike Moyes's, LVG's and Mou's are cutting edge. We hired ETH because unlike Ole he knows how to coach efficiently and we hired ETH because he's a disciplinarian and a winner. Having said that we have to admit that Ajax lack the spending power United have and they do not face the opposition we face on a week in and week out basis. We must also brace ourselves that he'll need time to adapt and that he'll make mistakes as well especially surrounding the transfer market. Between 87 and 90 SAF made6 good signings out of 16 (Choccy, Hughes, Sharpe, Pally, Ince and Irwin). Then in 1991 he hit the full jackpot (Kanchelskis, Parker and Schmiechel) and the rest was history.

These days clubs lack the patience to give managers so much time. Which is why they rely on the likes of DOFs to help managers focus more on their core duties rather then transfers etc. Unfortunately United lack that

I agree with everything you said here mate. My point is that he has shown he can turn seemingly average players into good players and has a knack for getting the best out of them. Maybe he sees something in Rabiot, for example, that he knows he can work with? Who knows, but I am trusting ETH's judgement.

Tielemans, Ruiz and Bissouma all are going for £25-30m. All three are clearly better choices than Rabiot.

What’s the link between rabiot and ETH?

or is this one from our recruitment department?

Our transfers this summer have clearly been driven by ETH solely so it’s a bit surprising to see.
