Adnan Januzaj

I'm also not a premier league manager. I think this thread is now being derailed and I will get the blame. Can we get back to Januzaj?

He's a great talent and I can't believe how much he's progressed watching him from your youth ranks. He always looked promising but never outstanding. He flipped that switch very quickly.

It was your 'that's why the majority of us avoid making them' comment that tickled me. Given your reputation for the opposite. ;)

I'm very proud of him, I hope he continues next season and becomes even better. We have managed him very well and he looks like he won't be burning out anytime soon. I think Powell will need one full season of premier league football, before he is ready to step up. I think Zaha just needs to find his feet in the squad, and keep pushing for sub appearences in the league and starts in the FA Cup. I can't wait for the future, I think its a lot brighter knowing we these players who can only get better. Lets not forget Cleverley and Welbeck who seem to be really stepping up in the absence of RVP and Carrick, as well as Smalling, Jones and Evans. All we need is one midfielder imo, we don't need two, as I would prefer Powell to be that second one.

Loan move for Zaha?

If Rooney signs a new contract when will that be?

I suppose it will all depend on Adnan's development and Rooney's possible regress. Say, Rooney prolongs his contract, so naturally he's the #10. Then after some time I expect RVP to move on or something, Rooney might be moved to #9 and Adnan could go behind him. I suppose that Adnan will be stuck on the wing for next 3-4 years ( if Rooney renews ).

Obviously he looks like he could have a really bright future in the middle and while I do see him doing well there, I think people forget just how quick he is and he is able use that and his change of pace from wide areas more often. So I can see him being used across the attacking midfield positions.

I recommend watching these two videos to see just how much he has improved since these games:

It's scary.

Sunday Supplement having a go at Januzaj's diving now. Pathetic, no words on how good he was yesterday, all talk is about his diving.
I wonder if such a big deal would have been made if he had declared to play for England...

He's simply amazing. I'd love for him to start getting involved a bit more in deeper positions though as I think he can be a great playmaker eventually. I'd rather his development be more towards someone who can drop deep and control the buildup more rather than someone who will be an "all-round attacker". ATM I have a feeling the latter is the direction he will go in given some of the positions he takes up and his all round ability.

Yeah he's being played on the wings because Rooney is occupying that spot behind the striker. Moyes himself has said that Januzaj's future is as a no.10. He's still young so there's still time for him.

Nevermind the biting of opponents and making racist comments ehh.

Obviously Suarez has done a few scummy things, but pundits usually focused on his diving. We (Liverpool supporters) were annoyed by it, but since cutting the diving aspect out (I can't remember the last time he's dived) he's only received positive press.

Januzaj will have a few tough years winning the media over. He is young, it's stupid to think he won't dive again, he will. He is still so young, just like Ronaldo he will have to grow, become confident in his body and then he will grow into a real player. Club just needs to stick by him which they will.

I thought he had a really good game, harsh with the penalty shout because he was clearly bundled off the ball. The booking could have been managed better by the ref, even the commentators were saying thats a foul and only until the replay then you could see the dive.

Overall im very happy with this progress and performance levels.

When do youse expect him to move centrally?

As is often the case with players like him, I think him moving to the right will be just as effective as him moving to the middle. Given Rooney's role in our squad, that is likwely to be the next move in his development. This will see him occupying a similar role to the likes of Silva and Coutinho.

I honestly think he can have a future in that wide area. Obviously he could be great in a central area but he has all the tools to become a great wide player too. Not a Ryan Giggs type but more your modern wide player who can drift into that area. He is kind of showing Kagawa the way a little bit in my opinion.

He can beat a man when facing a player which Kagawa can't really do, I don't think Shinji will ever be good wide in our system unfortunately.

He needs to play on the right. However, Valencia has been our most undroppable winger for years, and he only moves in a straight line down the right side.

I think he's more like Giggs than anyone else we've had since. Plenty of flair, always goes for the difficult pass, can beat men for fun and generally looks the most confident player on the pitch. Obviously he doesn't have that searing pace but the other qualities he has are very similar. I actually think Rooney gets a little annoyed at how confident he is and every now and then just refuses to pass to him and instead tries something individualistic just to make a point that he's still the main man.

 Oh come on Brwned, you can't actually believe that?

Watch out for it.

I'll keep an eye out for it but surely Rooney would relish the thought of having someone as creative as Adnan pulling the strings behind him considering it would mean he can push further forward and get amongst the goals?

I'm usually pretty critical of Rooney but I don't believe that. Rooney's issue in that sense is that he's too often wanting to pass it wide and dart forward rather than open teams up through passing through the middle.

The whole team are at fault for this to be fair. That's why a player like Kagawa often gets neglected.

Was just watching a Ronaldo compilation from 06-07, can't wait to watch Januzaj become 'the man'. He is very similar to Giggs as Brwned says, tries a lot of very difficult passes and is very aggressive, I think he will learn how to dictate a game though and he won't make ridiculous backheels in his own half like Giggs. He's so complete for an 18 year-old, he's quick, strong for his age, can pick a pass, shoots off both feet, can head, his movement is off the charts (could have easily had two goals up at Villa instead of Welbeck) and he seems to be strong mentally. I'm so excited.

As an aside I think he could do what Rooney's doing for us now in a few years in terms of dropping in deep and becoming an extra midfielder, only thing he's lacking is that bit of upper-body strength IMO. I really do think we can mould him into a top-class centre-midfielder, not seen many teenagers as complete as him.

He's been absolutely brilliant for us this season. For a player of his age to have such confidence and belief in his own ability says a great deal about him in itself. Forget about anything else for a second, his attitude alone is remarkable in my opinion for a lad of his age.

Doesn't matter where abouts on the field he is, he has the confidence to take the ball and the ability to do something with it. He has everything in his game to be a success at United. He can beat a man, he can pass the ball, he can score goals, he can create goals, he knows where the space is, his movements sharp, can use both feet, decent in the air; add in the fact that he is only 18 years of age as well and we could potentially have one hell of a player on our hands here. For me, it doesn't matter where he plays because he has the ability to play anywhere in attack in my opinion. I suspect he will eventfully grow into a position more central where he can influence the game, but for now I'm happy to see him a bit wider where he can learn the game and chose his moments.

As I say, really looking forward to seeing him develop.

With his skillset he is the sort of player who will become devastating if he is played further upfield or moved centrally. Ronaldo became totally unplayable when he was freed of the whole tracking back and doubling up nonsense. Henry became a different player when Wenger played him as a striker. Henry wasn't a conventional centre forward like Ruud or Drogba. Januzaj can be that sort of player.

New contract, a chance to settle as a Manchester United first teamer and perhaps mantle the legendary nr.11 later on.

What am I doing with my life. :(

I think he's that ideal mixture between Becks and Giggs, in that he is a top notch crosser of the ball and can also run with the ball. Giggs during what should've been his best years was very wasteful with the ball and inconsistent in terms of decision-making... it is only once he slowed down a little, his quality with the ball increased albeit he lost that explosive touch to his game.

Januzaj seems to have abit of everything in his locker thus far bar electric pace.. if he had the pace of a Ronaldo/Giggs, I'd say he's a surefire bet for possibly being the worlds best left footed winger. He's still pretty nifty as we have seen and seems to beat players for fun anyway.. exciting to see him develop, great personality too.. another difference to Giggs, in that I can see him wanting to be the 'main man'.
