Adnan Januzaj

My favourite part about the whole goal was how he'd just been turned down for a penalty appeal and refused to acknowledge the West Ham players in his face and he responded like that. He's 18 FFS.

does anybody know who he was pointing to during celebration?

edit: sorry i should have read back through the thread. i think it was moyes

Moyes?

ya its not unusual for players to acknowledge the manager that showed them some faith. put him in the team and gave him a new contract

Yes it is. Every player who ever scores a goal has been put in the team by the manager and 99% of them offered a contract by or on recommendation of the same man. I don't recall that genre of goal celebration being particularly widespread

When Ronaldo was his age, he also took a lot of abuse and tackles, and he tended to do a bit of a dive now and then because of it. After a while, he got so good he didn't need to do it anymore, and he got strong enough to handle it the right way. Hopefully Adnan will develop the same way.

Needs a better number than 44.

I think 44 is great, as it was my squad number in school. The reasoning used to be because I was twice as good as John o'Shea but I like sharing Januzajs number better.

Either 7 or 44, I like the idea of a player keeping a number and making it his own like at Bayern.

He's clearly surprised everyone with how far he's come along so I'm sure he'll get himself a single digit shirt number at some point next year. That number 11 might even become available (it won't I know, sister-in-law hunter will die in that shirt).

I can see a huge exodus meaning the fringers getting lower numbers. Welbeck to 9, Januzaj to 7, Smalling to 5, Fabio to 3 if he sorts this contract business? I hope so. 8 should also be free for the no doubt world class midfielder we're going to bring in.

i should have said young player in the same situation as januzaj.

Does it really matter? Why put the extra pressure that comes with being a #7(yes that number carries extra significance here) when he's doing just fine with 44. Maybe later in his career.

I suspect Adnan has the personality to shoulder that responsibility.

Sunday Supplement having a go at Januzaj's diving now. Pathetic, no words on how good he was yesterday, all talk is about his diving.

Sorry, not here to WUM but this is an important point. Had Moyes not piped up about diving with Suarez then this may have been allowed to slide. Moyes in his attempt to impress Ferguson vociferously 'raised the bar' on diving (Suarez) so now he is being held accountable to it with this own players. Januzaj yesterday was a joy to watch, but was also a diving slimeball at times. Remind you of someone? Suarez?

Here's what Moyes said about Januzaj yesterday: Asked if he supported players diving, Moyes said: "Definitely not. I've had a chance to see it and I think he believes he is going to get sized". Went on to mention about making sure he cuts it out but he's already defended the diving!

This is what Moyes said about Suarez while at Everton: "...it will turn the supporters away from football if they think players are conning their way to results"

How is he defending diving with those quotes Dumbstar ?

In the first quote, he is trying to raise the issue that Januzaj was going to get fouled, which wasn't the case since Collins didn't even move one inch and it made Januzaj look a fool in front of everyone. His second quote he is not defending the diving. The question is, what has changed from then and now?

A dive by a Manchester United player will never be "allowed to slide", irrespective of the comments made by our manager in his previous job. Moyes will definitely ask Januzaj to cut it out but he is hardly going to put the eighteen year old kid he's going to be building his Manchester United team around in the line of fire.

Who fecking cares? I don't blame Januzaj for diving when the half the league has tried to kick him into ground this season. How Lowton didn't get sent off for Villa is beyond me

Well I mean it's no surprise that he isn't gonna go full ballistic on a young player on his first high profile dive is it ? Suarez was a cheat before even joining the PL so any dive from him would generate a more vicious response from him.

I quite liked Moyes' comments, he criticised Adnan before then turning it on its head and saying Januzaj is being targeted, which he is. I find the whole diving furore ridiculous to be honest, McCartney almost breaks Hernandez's leg with an absolutely disgusting cowardly tackle and we're talking about an 18 year old kid diving after probably anticipating Collins doing him, tackles like McCartney's are the real danger in football.

No manager would put their player in the line of fire, specially not a youngster. But Moyes went out of his way to raise his profile on the issue (with that dirty foreigner) so has made himself a very uncomfortable bed of nails in front of the world's press.

Football is analyzed with this caveman logic by some media, hurting someone badly is seen as a "tough man" act whereas diving is seen as a coward way so therefore should be eradicated more urgently than dangerous tackles. The entire way football is perceived is a joke, you see that even from replays. A nice piece of skill, control will not get the same amount of replays that a crunching tackle would get.

You do know Januzaj is foreign? And that Moyes said he's going to speak to him.

What more do you want? He's obviously not telling them to go out there and dive.

Stop looking for stuff to be offended by.

I get the "its best to jump out the road than get smashed" or "unless he went down referee wouldn't have given it and foul would have gone unpunished" but I don't think either of those arguments apply here.

My main gripe as where it was. Why dive there the twat?

Hope Young had words.

You're talking total shite, it's getting attention because it's a Manchester United player, it has nothing to do with Moyes. Young got the same attention under Ferguson. Also this bollocks about Moyes having an "uncomfortable bed of nails" is nonsense, he doesn't like diving, that's why he slagged off your precious Uruguayan, because he dives, a lot. He's consistent in this view, and not just towards "dirty foreigners" (I know, Suarez got a ban for biting someone just because he's foreign right? Naughty FA) having also criticised his own ENGLISH players for it, notably Phil Neville when at Everton and Ashley Young whilst here. Oh, and he also criticised Januzaj yesterday, so I have absolutely no idea what you're bleating on about. I actually don't agree with Moyes' position on diving, Neville is bang on, it isn't black or white, but Moyes is consistent in his view and he does seem to genuinely dislike it, which I can respect, even if I think he's wrong.

Most beds of nails would be uncomfortable, to be fair.

That's why the majority of us avoid making them. :) Anyway, I've made my points and the replies have come in. Back to the Football forum.

If you want to talk about uncomfortable then try whinging and moaning about digit in your autobiography while being one of the offenders.

Dumbstar's never made himself a bed of nails of course.

He's above that.

I'm also not a premier league manager. I think this thread is now being derailed and I will get the blame. Can we get back to Januzaj?

He's a great talent and I can't believe how much he's progressed watching him from your youth ranks. He always looked promising but never outstanding. He flipped that switch very quickly.
