Adnan Januzaj

That wasn't the case though. We had Rooney. And Kagawa.

The original point was maybe we didn't sign X because we knew we had Januzaj. At the time we had never seen Januzaj play in a competitive match so to say we abandoned transfer plans because we knew he'd be immense is a silly suggestion. We'd have been aware, of course, of how good he could have been but you don't bank on it going into a season. Anything can happen in a players debut season. Not least it's usually expected he'll perhaps need a while to settle in. It's not something you assume will go well to the point that you abandon plans to strengthen as previously intended.

There's a different between giving credit to the club and thinking:

"What must have happened is Moyes threw his transfer plans out the window, convinced that this kid who wasn't to play a competitive match until after the window shut, was going to be immense."

That's like falling on your face, finding a fifty pound note and claiming you intended to do it.

I don't think Adnan had much influence on Moyes' transfer plans, to be honest. The reason we passed up the chance to sign Özil (if that is even the case) would have had much more to do with Rooney (and Kagawa, for that matter). If Rooney had left, Özil would've been a great signing. But he didn't leave - and that's that, really.

The analogy doesn't really work, then - because us "failing" to buy Özil wasn't tantamount to us falling on our face.

Your anaolgies are shit. I really hope you don't think 5hey make you sound clever because tbey mKe you sound more like a guy whi thinks he's clever but isn't actually clever.

What transfer plans? Were we ever after Ozil? Did we go so far and then pull out because we had Ianuzaj, or did we not bother trying to sign him because we already had Rooney and Kagawa who play there, and a young player who we highly rate and want to give chances to?

It's like not buying burgers because you have a pack of mince at home and fancy making your own. Plus, you already have sausages. Or something.

It doesn't fecking matter if we were after Ozil or not. The person said IF we were after Ozil or anyone else we wouldn't have changed plans because of Januzaj because the cnut didn't even fecking play a game until a week after the bloody transfer window shut.

You don't not sign someone because you have a kid who you have never seen kick a ball in a competitive game in his entire career.

It doesn't matter who we were or weren't after. If we weren't after anyone then it wasn't because we had Januzaj and if we didn't not sign someone we were after because we had Januzaj either

Agreed, he was irrelevant to them. I was merely answering a hypothetical point that IF we were after Ozil, why would we not have not signed him because we had Januzaj

Oddly, the person who asked the question "Why would we not have signed Ozil because we had Januzaj" is now the person asking "how do you know we were after Ozil" which I fear is missing the point somewhat.

I hope you're not referring to me, because technically I asked neither of those questions.

I don't think it's beyond the realms of possibility that the club felt tbey didn't have to move for a player of that ilk in that position, due to what we already had here. Januzaj included. It's not like he's been a surprise package, we've known about him for years.

Just look at the criticism the club has taken for not giving Pogba a chance and losing him to Juventus. The majority now say we should have played him as he could have solved our central midfield issues. Yet having the foresight that we should have had with Pogba, to see what we had with Januzaj gets little to no credit.

He's strong as feck. Anybody that posts the words "bulk up" at any point in the future need vacating down a super massive black hole.

He is only 18. When he gets to 21 he will be even stronger. He mightnt need to bulk up but 21 years old tend to be more filled out.

Give him your soul while you're at it.

I've learnt not to trust footballers when they say these sorts of things. It's great to hear this obviously but things can change quickly.

Agreed, they are a fickle bunch in all honesty. One club players are a rarity for a reason.

This time last year he was very disappointing in a loss to Burnley in the youth cup. I wonder if any of this year's team can have a similar impact next season?

He was the best player on the pitch behind that guy who scored the hattrick. He was not very disappointing at all

He was compared to what he was capable of. They wanted him to be the leader on the pitch and it didn't happen for him. Pearson was the best United player on the day from what I recall and Burnley had lots of good performers.

Nah, he was very good in that game. Easily our best player and if not for the spastic play by our defenders we would have won.

From Mr Mujac:

'He under-performed in the FA Youth Cup tie and got a real bollocking for it.

While his skill is not in question he drifts in and out of games way too much given his ability to run a game.

His application needs sorting before I would expect to see him at first team level. The next 4 months will be interesting.'

'Guys...don't read so much into things...

Plenty of people at the club thought he under-performed on the night (v Burnley) and he received some pointed feedback.

My understanding is that the club rate him highly...have big expectations but he needs to step up and show what he is capable of on a more consistent basis.

Not much more to say but there is no hidden agenda here as far as I know.'

I've looked up that thread. Consensus being Pearson and Januzaj were both excellent. Also there's a bunch of gifs on page 7 of this thread.

If that's very disappointing then well...

He reminds me of George Best. His body frame, skilful, creative, intelligent movement, never afraid of tackles, and always want to make things happened.

I didn't mean like it was a disappointment to not see him score. I expressed what I felt badly, I'd love for him to be more decisive as if he is one of the rare players who is willing to try something out of the ordinary. I have no doubt he will, he's too good this kid.

Yeah get where you're coming from but hey we saw another side to him, that header if it went in... would've been an amazing header. I get the feeling this boy is capable of being an Ozil with knobs on in the years to come.. he'll be a scorer of great goals - whether he'll be a consistent goal scorer I don't know, but he'll definitely be a 20 goal a season man across all competitions minimum if he keeps developing.

Yeah from the clips I've seen of best, messi is the player that seems most like him. But best had more "swagger".

He's more like Cruyff in terms of his presence on the ball, but dribbles like an Ozil- no other comparisons bear as much merit.. Messi is different, Best was different.. the way Januzaj will just go into centre mid and pick the ball off defenders is Cruyff-esque. Not saying he'll be anywhere near as good due to the fact Cruyff was blessed with electric pace too, but he has that languid yet supremely confident vibe..I think he can be better than Ozil. Kaka is similar in terms of his ability to glide past people but Januzaj is more stylish and pleasing on the eye in my opinion.

The way he controls the ball and dribbles reminds me of Dwight Yorke.

He's got the composure of Neil Redfearn, and the way he shifts the ball before getting a shot away is akin to Paulo Wanchope.

No doubt in my mind that he'll go on to be the next Peter Ndlovu.

I am not so sure about that. Kaka is one of the most stylish and pleasing to the eye players I have ever seen.

It makes me cringe when people even name players like Best and Cryuff when comparing players.

It is cringeworthy to be honest at this stage, can't deny that. Just saying his style reminds me of that, for example you could argue Aaron Lennon is similar to Garrincha in terms of style (takes players around the outside).. doesn't make him anywhere near the level of player.

He is similar in style and build to Kaka. Dribbles past players, continously tries defence splitting passes, runs and crosses into the box from the byline and a mean short. Only thing missing is that pointing to Jesus celebration.

He is still young, the world at his feet, the type of player he will become is not settled. Do we have any other notable youngsters in the youth teams ?

'He takes a selfie, something something, he might as well be...Januzaj, januzaj, januzaj?'

I wanna tell you I might as well do about a boy who can do anything he comes from Belgium his name is Adnan Januzaj Januzaj Januzaj

I had to google for the original song. Gilbert O Sullivan. We've got some old guys coming up with chants!
