Adnan Januzaj | 2013/14 Performances

I was just about to post that, it really surprised me. Especially when that's Januzaj under David Moyes.

Though I'd argue Ronaldo was a lot more 'explosive' in his first season.

All I know is if Januzaj turns out to be even half the player Ronaldo is, we've got a special player for a long time to come.

Certainly will be an exciting season to come.

While it's nice for him to be compared to Ronny and while the stats seem to demonstrate a resemblance, it's important for him not to take much notice of it all and be his own man. He's done quite well so far and has been very impressive with the opportunities he's had, but he's still a young man and has much to learn. If he continues to take his training seriously and receives proper coaching from expert staff, I predict he could be something special. That being said, he could do worse than take some tricks from Ronaldo and add it to his repertoire. If he's lucky, he could even get some handy tips from the big man as well.

I've long believed Januzaj would become a top player, without necessarily having any BPITW expectations, but that performance against Hull convinced me that a Rolando like progression is a real possibility. He has the talent, he has the self-belief, he has the dedication...

I'm looking forward to next season already. If we don't screw things up over the summer, it could be a real treat for fans - the chance to get the bitter taste of the last ten months out of our mouths,a new start under an entertaining (at the very least) new manager, a world class young talent spreading his wings, and (hopefully) a bunch of great new players added to the mix.

I agree with this assessment. For far too many games this season, we have seen Young and Valencia halting goal scoring opportunities with bad crosses and decisions. If we were to give Adnan more starts next season and compliment him with an experienced and accurate winger on the other side of the pitch, we'd be as dangerous down the wings as we were when Nani and Ronaldo we're playing together.

I just hope he doesn't feck himself up and gets the right balance if he intends to spend the summer in the gym.

I'm happy that he's spending time in the weight room. After bulking up during the summer, next season he will be able to extend plays more often rather than being pushed off the ball. That in itself is one of the qualities that makes world class finishers like Ronaldo lethal.

Yeah, such a shame he's not part of a club, perhaps one dedicated to football, you might say, who could give him advice and guidance in the best ways to train.

He has trained on well this season and was a joy to watch against Hull.

Has definitely improved his pace as you would expect at his age, something positive from Moyes's physical training methods maybe?

In any case the way he brought him on this season is one positive we can all take and hopefully benefit from for a decade plus

I'm getting really excited about being able to see his progression.

Very similar number but they are far from playing the same game. I really hope Januzaj can improve his physic because he's awfully skinny and he don't look like the kind of guy that will build up a Ronaldo body either. To me he has a Fletcher kind of body. Hope I am wrong in that aspect.

Every top player doesn't have to have Ronaldo's physique. He could well turn out like Iniest and Xavi in that he won't ever have a big frame but through use of upper body and skill he might be very hard to knock off the ball.

Takes a hell of a lot more than just a summer in the gym to do that, unless he plans on taking more than just protein.

I agree. People also must remember Ronaldo was also a skinny kid at 18-19. None of us know how Januzaj will develop physically. He's obviously a whole lot stronger since the same time last season when he was getting ready to play the U21s final. You can see a massive difference in the photos from then and what he looks like now. I'm sure him and the club will continue to just let it happen naturally.

I find it really weird personally the the club (and in fact all clubs) wait until 18/19 to get these kids to 'bulk up'. If they'd started them at 16 when they're still in puberty and secreting steroid abusing levels of growth hormone they'd get results so much faster.

Adnan is going to be a very good player. He may not reach Ronaldo levels but I see him reaching the levels of the likes of a Nedved,Inesta,Henry. Below Ronaldo but still very good.

The great thing about him is he has broke into the first team mainly on technically ability. Most of the young players who break through early in the PL do so because they are physically very mature or have exceptional pace. Its clear to see that Adnan has a lot of maturing to do physically and when he does in 2-3 years time we are going to have a very special player.

Funnily enough an ex united Trainer said a few years ago that he'd only seen 2 players strike the perfect balance between what they do on the pitch and what they do in the gym. Ronaldo was one and fletcher was the other.
Heres a good article about it

Was reading a Daily Fail article about that first season comparison with Ronnie and on one of the pictures of Januzaj there was this caption:

"Much to prove: Januzaj still has some fans to win over, and the new manager, too"

The rest makes sense but I'm pretty sure he has won over the fans? making it sound like a Berbatov situation where it's like half rate him half hate him.

Or is it like that and I'm just way out of touch?

Two words:

Daily. Mail.

I am yet to meet a United fan who is not totally head over heels for Adnan, let alone not won over.

Ronaldo was more obviously stand-out - he had the explosiveness about him. But I genuinely think Januzaj is more polished at the same stage. Adnan is going to be a superstar - wonderful balance and technique, and a deceptive turn of pace. He's a sure thing.

Thing is, Ronaldo was a skinny runt too. Adnan will fill out nicely, but there's no rush. He doesn't have to come back next season stacked.

It's going to be the Adnan show again today

Future is bright for this young man. Although I wish we'd stop playing him on the right wing where he is clearly not as comfortable. He operates best on the left wing and is so dangerous with his crossing from the left.

Looking forward to watching him arrive on the global stage with a hopefully strong performance in the WC.

One of the few bright spots in this dismal season.

I definitely think he should play from the right. Crossing as the primary skillset is an antiquated concept for modern wingers. The best contemporary wide attacking midfielders play on the flank opposed to their preferred foot and drift in to score while the full backs provide more width. Ronaldo (Right foot left flank), Ribery (Right foot left flank), Reus (Right foot left flank), Bale (Left foot right flank), Hazard (Right foot left flank), Robben (Left foot right flank) as apt examples to support that notion with Alaba, Marcelo, Lahm providing the crosses. It'll afford him the chance to cut inside and be more involved in the final third. There will be teething issues at first (like today) but as he matures and improves his finishing IMO he can be a consistent goal thread. He really shouldn't focus on crossing and getting out wide.

Under van Gaal he will most likely be encouraged to be more direct and in the long run it will suit him to play on the right side and start having a lot of shots when cutting inside.

Going to the World Cup!

Doubt he'll start but he'll be a great option off the bench for them at least.
