Adel Taarabt

Can we get some stats of todays game? I thought he was tidy and played some progressive passes. He even worked back and won the ball a few times, so dont see why he's getting criticised for that.

Whenever he gets into a mildly threatening position, he either fecks it up by shooting from 30 yards or he misses an easy chance one-on-one.

He's got all the flashy stuff, but unfortunately he can't do the very basics right.

Manchester United poised to tempt cash-strapped Queens Park Rangers with £12m offer for midfielder Adel Taarabt

Manchester United are considering a shock £12 million bid for Queens Park Rangers midfielder Adel Taarabt in the January transfer window.

Any offer could tempt new QPR manager Harry Redknapp into a sale as it would raise the crucial funds he requires to bolster his squad when the window reopens.

At present there is only a relatively small amount of money available to Redknapp, who could also rely heavily on the loan market as he targets a striker and a central defender, in particular, in his attempt to haul QPR off the bottom of the Premier League.

Redknapp was guarded yesterday about his plans for the forthcoming window, again pointing out that investment had already been made in the squad with 12 players arriving – at a cost of £14 million in transfer fees and a sharp increase in QPR’s wage bill – during the summer.

QPR do not have the £9 million they bid for Tottenham Hotspur defender Michael Dawson, who will be a target again, in August as they had to spend £3.8 million on midfielder Esteban Granero to add to the squad. That was because of uncertainty over whether Samba Diakite would return to the club from France, as he has subsequently done, after he suffered from depression.

Spurs would appear less likely to allow Dawson to leave in January than they were in August, with Younes Kaboul still out injured, and would certainly resist any approach for Scott Parker, who is also yet to play this season. Jermain Defoe is not for sale either.

Redknapp takes charge of his first match on Tuesday evening, away to Sunderland, with QPR still in search of their first league victory of the season and although the new manager reiterated yesterday that he had no intention of selling Taarabt, there was a warning that he had to work harder on the pitch.

In 2010, when he was Spurs manager, Redknapp sold Taarabt to QPR, famously calling him a “fruitcake”, and the midfielder remains an erratic, if hugely talented player. Redknapp might, understandably, be tempted to sell if the right offer comes in and he is given the funds to buy. It is understood that QPR would push for closer to £15 million if possible.

Manchester United have shown interest in the 23-year-old Moroccan in the past, and considered an offer when QPR were promoted from the Championship. They have continued to monitor his progress.

Taarabt went on loan to QPR in 2009 before signing permanently the following year, for just £1 million, and becoming the key player in the club’s promotion season when he was given the captaincy by the then manager Neil Warnock.

It was then that United were first linked with a move for Taarabt with Warnock claiming Sir Alex Ferguson, the United manager, had scouted the player, only for him to be sent off against Hull City.

Before the takeover led by Tony Fernandes in August 2011, it was expected that Taarabt would be sold and he was strongly linked to Paris St-Germain.

I rate him, despite some poor decision making at times. Wouldn't want him at United though. Ignoring the fact that the story is bollocks.

He's still regularly left out of the QPR side (24 starts from 38 league games last year) despite them being in dire need of some inspiration - ergo there's no a chance a big team's going near him.

Get out the Telegraph dartboard and stick a bunch of players on it.
Blindfold the journo, give him a dart.

Presto. Transfer story news generator..

They've tried to sell him before. Might just be a story leaked to create interest.

I mean, if there is a 'source' involved, it could be a mate of the player. At least that way you have a news story. Chances are, the friend is making things up. But he doesn't even have a friend! This is entirely off his own imagination. The Cuntis' truly are shocking journalists. I cannot fathom how they have jobs at the Sun.

His natural ability is unbelievable, has a really bad case of the Nanis though.

Jeez.. if Adel finishes his career achieving half what Nani already has (CL winner, CL shoot-out scorer, 3 time PL winner, PFA Team of the Year, Manchester United POTY), he'll have overachieved.

Not a chance were interested. Arry obviously wants rid of him as quickly as possible and has sneaked this story into the media through his contacts to raise interest in the player by linking him with us. Arry not wasting a second to use his vast experience with the media to move on an unwanted player.

One of the most talented players in the league. That said, his issues are obvious. I'm not sure if Fergie would want to go through it all over again with him, although he could become one of the best around if his ability was honed.

That said, I'd have him down as more likely to never fulfil his potential than to do so.

He must be the most frustrating type of player for managers, clearly naturally gifted but lacking in application and maturity.

Maybe we could have him in the team to replace Morrison - as someone with Hugh raw talent.

There's been so much talk about the Cantona transfer in recent days that it's a reminder that Fergie often springs mindfeck transfers (and believe it or not, Cantona was seen as a big risk at the time). And those transfers sometimes work out, and sometimes don't.

I think he's an interesting player and I'd like to see how he progresses at a bigger club. I just don't want him to see at our club.

Because that is how you measure a player right, on the trophies the club wins (okay two of them are correct)..

He'd be decent, but it would spell the end for somones United career and the fans would never love him because he isn't what they are calling out for

This will never happen, plus story is from the Sun....Nuff said!!

He is having a good season, in spite of his team playing very poorly. When I have watched him this term, he seems to have a little more fight in him than in previous seasons.

He is a luxury player but we could afford that in our squad. He is a better attacker than Ashley Young anyway.

Really don't see how he'd fit in at United givn our options up front. He'd end up on the wing and there's no way he's got the desire or work rate for that position.

The only logic or reason for the interest is:

1) The poor form of all our wingers, especially Young and Nani
2) Nani may get sold
3) And he is a cheap option with PL experience.

This transfer would be like Sinclair to City or Moses/Marin to Chelsea. Just for the sake of it.

No, Taarabt has more natural ability. If Fergie thinks he can fix his attitude, then I personally would love to see a player with that kind of match winning skill strutting around Old Trafford. What gets you out of your seat on a matchday?

Indeed

It would be a kind of 'genius project' for SAF, he likes those.

More natural ability than Marin? Honestly, there's a massive case of overrating the one good player at a shit club going on here. Yes, occasionally he pulls off a bit of magic, but for the vast majority of every game he's average. And I don't think that's a case of 'not getting it together', I think it's a case of not being as good a player as many think he is.

If we were going to go down this route, we'd probably get Ben Arfa for a similar price, and he's much more consistently excellent.

I suspect the majority of the time Taarabt would be getting fans off their seats would be when he's fannying on about on the touchline with silly showboating and they're screaming abuse at him.

Or perhaps you're over rating Marin's contribution?

The article is a bit of an attack on chelsea, and isn't very good, but this little snippet is quite interesting.

In the last year, Werder Bremen have scored 47 goals. In his 31 appearances Marin has, according to Opta, been directly involved in just six of those. It is one of several damning statistics which justify his failure to break into the national side, and make a mockery of Chelsea’s transfer policy.

I agree about the Ben Arfa comment though.

All I know is that I've seen some brilliant stuff from him in the past, and I know a handful of season ticket holders at QPR and they rave about him. If fergie can channel his abilities then he could be a great player. It's all ifs and buts, but I think he has talent.
