It's safe to say it hasn't been a great signing, nor a terrible flop either. 5 seasons in and you'd think he'd have an international career, have locked down that RB spot at United as his own and improved certain areas of his game but none of that has happened.
50 million
Probably better off getting a few strikers that can head the ball first.New contract is the wrong decision, I would let him go and sign someone who can cross.

I kind of agree. I just think if we cant sell him now after the best year of his united career then were never going to sell him. I think our schedule is going to be pretty light 2nd half of this season and getting games for a big squad could be difficult (if we manage to get them fit for 5 minutes). It just feels like it really should be now or never for a lot of players.I think AWB is one of the few players we could get decent money for so makes sense extending it. Tbh we have so many players we need to get rid of that invariably some will likely have to stay another year as its not realistic to sell half an entire squad. However, I reckon we can get a decent fee in the summer for AWB
Well he is a lot more useful than Sancho or Antony and I guarantee you his wages will not reflect thatNew contract? With backup wages OK.
But we used to have a team full of internationals. Now we have AWB who is probably the 8th choice for England, with no caps and who is just plain average and his value has dropped massively, even though he should have been at his peak. But just because he is good at one thing, people call him a specialist and a useful player. You don't spend 50mil on just average players.
But again no team would want to spend more than 20m for him (which is a more reasonable value).
At least, hopefully the wages are indicating his position as a backup.
Those top class performances have, I think, increased recently. He’s shown some nice qualities in passing and technique, too. I like him. However, I must admit you’re right about inconsistency- like most of our players he has too many poor games and lapses in his concentration. The latter are sometimes catastrophic. Still there are others I’d let go before AWB.Didn’t realise he was 26. Feck. Not a lot of scope for improvement from here. Although I do think he has improved some elements of his game. His biggest flaw (like most of our squad) is inconsistency. During his very few top class performances this season he’s looked absolutely class. The problem is how infrequent they are and how hapless he looks when he’s not 100% switched on and in the zone.
There are at least five members of the squad that are on twice the money that he is on that we need to ship out before him so hopefully that will be addressed first.I kind of agree. Taking the extra year option is whatever. I've never seen it save us money or help us sell a player, but again whatever. Giving him a new contract is frankly braindead stupid and my primary objection.
No one wants to take Martials 200k wages off our hands. I dont care on the order, i'd move on anyone i could sell. Wan Bisakka, Maguire and McTominay aren't the worst by any means but theres a market for them that doesn't exist for those even more inadequate than them. There are at least five members of the squad that are on twice the money that he is on that we need to ship out before him so hopefully that will be addressed first.
The reason why there is a market for them is because they area our better performers. No one wants to take Martials 200k wages off our hands. I dont care on the order, i'd move on anyone i could sell. Oh look you can trade dalot, varane and casemiro in if you want or any other names you think appropriate. This isn't a title winning team. Sell any players that are pretty good if your mooching about in 8th to fund signings that have some plausible chance of succeeding. We have a huge squad for a team playing once a week. The reason why there is a market for them is because they area our better performers.
We would be in worse shape if we sold the players we have that other teams actually want, it is the players that nobody else wants that we need to rid ourselves of.
Hopefully moving forward we will be taking every step possible to not sign the 30ish player that has achieved a lot in other leagues and have come for a lavish superannuation package at our expense or the young tattooed from neck to arsehole type player that has all the attitude but not the goods to succeed in England.

I think pretty much every player is a squad player. Like we 4 full backs none of which are convincing whether its due to injuries, age, suitability or basic quality. 6 centre backs. About 10 midfielders, one of which plays every minute of every match. We can let some of that lot goHe's not good enough to be a starter but he's way down my list of players I'm desperate to see the back of. In specific games his ability to shut out a winger can be a real asset.
It's when he's playing every week you notice the lads a squad level player and not a first choice pick full back. He's a midtable full back which for me means he should accept a squad role and nothing more.
Why would we sell Dalot?Oh look you can trade dalot, varane and casemiro in if you want or any other names you think appropriate. This isn't a title winning team. Still cheaper than lavish contracts for players that are over the hill...at least there is resale value.New contract for average players. United will never change.
He'd won me back over last season but thought he was poor at times tonight, especially in the first half.
The thing is I don't mind him sometimes linking up with the winger or bringing it inside he's every athletic and fast it's just his actual defending which leaves me scratching my head,he used to get away with it with great tackles but his positioning is some of the worst I've seen from a right back and he hasn't learned at all to improve it.I like him very very much but if we can find someone to pay 10-20m for him during summer we should look to skip him and get a more modern attack minded right back
Sadly this could be said about a lot of our players in and around the first team. ( e.g.Lindelov, Malacia, McT, VDB, Pellistri...)I like him very very much but if we can find someone to pay 10-20m for him during summer we should look to skip him and get a more modern attack minded right back

Games like this are a prime example of why he's not good enough to be a back up. Not good enough on the ball when you play teams where you'll dominate possession and as a team we should look to be dominating possession in as many games as possible instead of having negative reactive footballers playing week in week out.
All aforementioned played could be easily disposed of.Sadly this could be said about a lot of our players in and around the first team. ( e.g.Lindelov, Malacia, McT, VDB, Pellistri...)
Because...no, haven't got an answer. Why did he play LB? It made no sense.
