Best game in some time. Thought he would be a major weakness in this formation today but my concerns were unfounded. Carried the ball really well, and actually attacked his opposite number when he had the opportunity.

MoTM today. Very good. I really like AWB. I don't agree with people that want him replaced.

What really showed me that he's improved is his teammates tendency to play him in attacking positions more often than earlier. They now expect something to happen every once in a while with him on the ball. And on top of that, a bit more confidence in him. It's like he slowly is learning what sort of moves he can do effeciently, and which he doesn't have the ability to do.

Helped him aswell, that we had more players going forward today.

we need to get Laird back so we have 2 good options there. Unfortunately we don't have the same on the left

Played well today but he's nowhere near good enough on the ball still. That's the issue most have with him. Even today he got into some incredible positions and wasted a lot of them. We won't get as many chances against better teams.

There was one good chance that I think he wasted. He played a low ball back towards the edge of the box and nobody was there. Apart from that, I think his attacking play was good.

I know this gets mentioned all the time but he’s such an awkward dribbler/Carrier of the ball, yet some how it works. Was really good today and I like he was committing people and even trying to put a ball in first time. I think Bruno being closer to him really helped as well.

I think it was offside but that sprint back to get at Son and get the block in was fantastic. He had some good moments of defending as well as attacking today.

Agree. He’s had more of these games than people tend to notice, I’d like to see stars on how many successful take-ons/dribbles he has per game. He can beat his man very effectively and link up well. When he has games like today where he’s good at both ends of the pitch it shows that he has another level he can reach imo

For weeks now, AWB has been pushing up on the right wing with tremendous ball control. Once he gets all the way up the pitch, he punts it as a cross to NOBODY!!!!

I don't know what people are talking about when praising for his 'both ends of the pitch' performance?!

Yes, AWB is a great defender, with some flaws, but with the right coaching he could be world class.
Last year he had 5 assists
2018/2019 had 4 assists
2017/2016 had 3 assists
He's not setting the world on fire in a forward position, and this shit needs to be stopped!

In addition, he's only scored 2 goals in 5 years

That recovery block on Son was fantastic.

On the attacking side he had the ball in good positions and ran into a dead-end.

For me, I think he is a great alternative RB.

He seems very specialist because he is ultimately different. That doesn't make him bad like a lot of people seem to see in him.

The guy is making last ditch blocks/ tackles on the line and on defenders nearly every couple of games now - people can really underestimate the value of this kind of stuff.

I think if people don't value him because he cost us 50 mil simply because he isn't attacking like TAA or Hakimi then I do think that's very unfair on the guy - especially when the main complaint people have during our tenure is that we are a poorly coached team and Wan Bissaka has only really received- well poor coaching.

The way that people talk about him like he is a flop and like he is useless is very confusing to me.

We do need an alternative - but a traditional attacking RB who is crap at defending is not really that hard to find. In the league it was once- sign Max Aaron's, Sign Lamptey and now Lavremento. Just to show that they can chop and change a bit too.

Wan Bissaka to me is a wonderful player to have in the squad. Its why whether our manager is Conte or whoever - I hope we don't really sell him as long as he is happy.

And if we go get another RB it's not really about "upgrading" him - it's so that we could have a RB that can do that Wan Bissaka can't do well; however at the same time I really doubt they can do the things that Wan Bissaka is doing either with his on the goal clearances and last minute tackles aswell.

We can use two alternatives of a player within our squad - like having a targetman and a false 9 for the striker role in our squad or a deep lying playmaker just as much as an anchorman, or an inverted forward RF like Greenwood or more traditional one like Sancho at RW. Having 1 attacking and defensive RB who can do a bit of both is good for a tactical manager and it's a very useful thing to have.

He is ultimately a player that not many teams do have and I value what he brings to our squad.

Yes, came here to post that.

It's his body feints, so slow and sluggish but yet so effective.

Always puts in good performances and catches a lot of stick of crap posters who think because he’s not TAA he is no good, but he saves us a hell of a lot of the time and works his socks off.,

Don't think it's a coincidence that the formation changes and a lot of our players have arguably their best performances in a poor season.

Since he’s been at United he has more assists than Luke Shaw.

Was hoping we’d get him back for £20mish in the summer, guess I’m parking that thought again for now? Changes weekly when I visit this thread.

It is very weird, like if I think about Sancho in full flight every movement seems purposeful and like he knows what he’s doing a few steps ahead, where with Bissaka, it reminds me of an excited Labrador and at times I’m not sure he even knows what he is doing. Then I see him beat 3 people in a tight space and use a little Cruyff turn to get out of the situation and I’m like wait where did this come from. He’s an enigma of a footballer. The Martial of right backs.

He shows signs of the player he could be one week then the next week looking like Gary Neville attempting to play in his late 40’s

Glad he got recognised by the caf for yesterday, thought he was one of the standout performers. And that recovery tackle on Son was superb, given the guy is ridiculously fast.

Re-visit Tuesday night and there'll be a 100% discount offer and free delivery with someone offering to drive him to Palace themselves.

Still not convinced but that was a very encouraging performance.

Most of you are seemingly too easy to please.

He was nothing special and we should still be looking for a replacement from next summer.

Some just have their mind up already. His runs were the best and His crosses were good today aswell.

There was one that was a bit behind but the rest was good, one to Cavani, one to Ronaldo who's first touch wasn't good and he tried to lay it off I think to Fred. Some good low crosses too. For the first RWB role with no other experience for us that was good and again another better performance than Shaw.

He was better . Still way far below standards . He does well in tight spaces but then don't know what to do after that and passes back to Bruno. Couple of times he did a cross, it was either overhit (Ronaldo one back pass) or underhit ( Cavani was free on far post but he did a low cross through the defence and went short of everyone).

Small things but would make a huge difference in games like this. We should still find a better crosser.

I dont think we will sell him. He is an young English player who is still improving. Make no mistake, there are games where he would be extremely useful. I would happy be with him as a backup but we definitely need a threat on right side.

Forget to mention that Challenge- he covered a lot of ground to catch Son and did a brilliant block. It was for sure going in.

That cross to Cavani that Cavani decided to dummy thinking Ronaldo was behind was really good too, maybe cavani should have taken it as a shot.

He's fine as an option, but certainly if 352 is going to be a regular formation we need a quality attacking RWB to provide a challenge/alternative. Be interesting if Ole gives Dalot a chance. If not, Laird has potential, or we may make a move for someone new.

Agreed. His crossing is obviously nowhere near TAA, but he's twice the defender that TAA is.

I like him. If he can improve his final ball a little bit he's going to be great imo

He looks awkward but he is good dribbler. He has improved his attacking game, also that block was just brilliant.

5 assists from the less attacking fb is not too shabby. Nothing to write home about maybe but on par. He shouldn't be seen as the main source of creativity in this team.

He may look awkward sometimes and mess up the final ball but he's been improving on that imo since he came. He doesn't shy away from pushing forward and links up well on the right.

He'd never go for something like that anyway. He's very limited but he's undeniably a very good defensive fullback, if we were open to selling him we wouldn't let him go for less than what we bought him for.

You're being even more hyperbolic. It was a decent performance, and if anything it's shown he's suffered from having zero support on his side of the pitch.

This is a really good post and I agree with a lot it. Having a better attacking RB in the squad would be nice, but finding one that isn't absolutely awful defensively isn't easy. We already have Dalot and watching him play makes me miss AWB so much. I really appreciate the defensive ability that we get from AWB. He has made many last ditch and goal line saving challenges/blocks this season. It's hard to ignore that when his primary job is to defend.

I have seen consistent improvement in his game going forward. His dribbling and ball carrying has definitely improved. He might look awkward doing it, but it's effective. My main complaint is probably his final ball, but I've still seen improvement over his time with us. Another poster said he has more assists than Shaw since he arrived as well. He had one poor low cross into the box yesterday and that one part of poor play clouds minds. People have already made their mind up that he's poor going forward. Even when he goes on a long ball carry, people seem to ignore it?

His price is probably another thing that people use against him. He is a good player, and I far rather see him playing there than when we were playing Valencia, Young, Darmian, etc. He is levels above all of them.

The most significant problem is his 'final ball' as you say, but no he doesn't '...link up well on the right'

It's my opinion, he needs to stick to what he does well, he should stay back and defend.

You realise that those stats you post make him one of the highest assisters from RB?

How can a professional footballer be so clumsy on the ball? He's beyond awful. When the time comes and we finally get a manager who wants us to play attractive, cohesive football, AWB has to be one of the first to go.
