Aaron Ramseys contract situation

Makes more sense to give Mata and Herrera new deals to me.

You're in for a shock :nervous: I love Ramsey but you really need 2 very good defensive midfielders behind him to make him shine. When he's not injured of course.
A lot's changed for Wales in last year but going back a year or two, he did have players like Ledley behind him (defensive) but also Joe Allen - a mix of defence and attacking. Didn't seem like Ramsey doing nothing defensively and two players running their arses off... he puts in the work too. Think he made team of the tournament in the Euros?

In terms of injuries, had 30+ appearances for last several seasons and 40+ for a lot of them.

The issue for me wouldn't be his work ethic or injuries but what his position would be in the team and would it impact on Pogba's game. Unless Jose is planning to bin Pogba, get Ramsey on the cheap as an attacking Mid/10 and use the Pogba money for a CH and a winger/forward.

We should sign him. Mata and Herrera need to leave.

He would be an improvement on Herrera in my opinion. P

Before his injury he was a player that had the ability to dictate the tempo. However now he has become this all action midfielder. I think in another team he will be more of a box to box player and slowly adjust to a player that can dictate the tempo of the game.

I would not mind if he does come to United but I feel our Andreas can fill that box to box Role and also slowly start dictate the game.

Another player that wil be almost 29 when signing for us, on a big fat contract until he is 33! First team player since 2007, so how much does he have left in his tank? Avoid avoid avoid

He'll be on a free? He'd cost us less than Dalot ffs. Oh what a burden..

It's always fun to buy Arsenal players, regardless of how bad they are. Do it for the craic.

If I'm Arsenal, I keep him.

Rumours are he was ready to sign, but Arsenal withdrew the contract offer. The popular theory seems to be that Emery was told that signing Ramsey would mean there would be less money to spend elsewhere, so it became a choice of who do you want, rather than do you want Ramsey to stay.

But if you're Arsenal, how much do you have to pay to replace him in today's market, even if it's just as an impact/rotational player? £25m+? And then you're paying 50-100k per week wages to the new guy anyway, so does it even work out cheaper? Does it really warrant the replacing one of the most experienced Arsenal players (in terms of their Arsenal contributions/experience)?

I don't think so. Bigger questions need to be asked if the theory is true, though... How on earth can Arsenal not pay to keep Ramsey & bring in another player for big wages? Is Kroenke really THAT much of a drain? Even without CL football, the money they make is insane - They should be competing financially, at the very least, with Liverpool, but closer to United/City.

(I'm a fan of his, and I'm a bit up in the air about how happy I'd see him play for Liverpool, as I'm not sure we don't really play to his strengths, and if we did, we kinda already have players who can play in his position - Not sure how he'd do for United, either)...
It’s much more clear than that. With the way Emery wants us to play, there’s quite clearly only room for one of Ramsey or Özil in the team. Özil is better and already on an expensive long-term contract, so it wouldn’t be a smart use of resources to also give Ramsey a blockbuster long-term deal.

200k a week for 5 years is £12m. How much would you be spending for a reasonable replacement/squad player? Ramsey is most suited to the Ozil position under Emery I agree, but it's not like he's only able to play there. He's a good player to have in an injury situation (or on one of Ozil's mid-season holidays).

& he's been at the club for 10 years - It's not like anyone is going to kick up a fuss about Aaron earning more money.

To be fair, if that were true, there is Mkhi sitting on their bench, who I would rate much more than Ramsey. So I could see the logic in Arsenal being reluctant to sign him up on a big deal. That's why I believe they really don't need to replace Ramsey, they already did so in January.

That would be a good deal. Where's that' being reported?

Mostly the dailies like the Sun. But Juventus being Juventus, i could see them making this kind of deal on a free.

I don't rate Mhiki higher than Ramsey, but he is there & he is there on a long term contract, so it does make sense like you say.

I think we'll find it funny too. Another great thing is Ramsey and Alexis absolutely love each other, they're best buddies. What a great investment it would be, you should totally do it !

It’s £52m, and would likely destroy our wage structure. Completely disagree.

Ugh, I'd just woke up & I did months rather than weeks  My bad. And hey, you know much more about Arsenal than I do, so fair play.

Yeah it’s fantastic. Ramsey will win you the league so make sure you make a nice bid in the mid season window.

Can i interest you in 2 other brilliant players who will guarantee you win the title name Xhaka and Mustafi?

Well the fact that he’s been at the club since 2007 and we are unwilling to give him that contract should tell you all you need to know about him.

He’s obviously world class if Arsenal are not willing to pay him what he wants. Just like Sanchez he will bring you up a few levels.

He s a very good player under the right system, and if rumor is true $200k/week is not too bad for his age. However although he is allowed to leave for free in summer but his sign on fee probably will be over $20M. I think he fits more in a 433 system then a 4231 though. He is not a #10. He is more like a Lampard, without the defensive discipline.

How much is he on at Arsenal atm? He would be a good option if he didn’t want 200k. Depends on the system as well, arriving at the edge if the box he is a good player.

Jesus Christ there’s actually people considering him for United? He’s literally being kicked out of arsenal because that’s the not the level of quality they want to move forward with. We are not here to pick up the trash

He's featured in the most amount of games out of all Arsenal players. So thats not true at all. He's not as his best but we're even further from our best. Would he be a good signing?

I don't know.

At his best yes, but right now I'd rather see Fred, Ander and Andreas get the games he would be getting. I mean I'd take him for cheap but his contract will be expensive so I dont think so.

He should go abroad. He wouldn’t improve any of the other top sides. Everton would be his best bet if he stayed in EPL. He should try his luck in Bundesliga or follow Bale to La Liga.

Ramsey is to Lampard as Russian made cars are to German made cars. Pretty much the same with minor differences.

I don't understand why Arsenal don't want him. He is a clever footballer, hard-working, and on average he gets his 6-7 goals each season.

I would gladly have him here

He’s probably asked for a 5 year contract. It’s very surprising for the club to withdraw the offer. He’s a £30-40m player. Don’t think he’s right for us, we have a lot of ‘good’ midfielders, and we now need players who are the very best, and he’s not at that level.

Bayern are predictably sniffing around, the bargain hunters that they are!

Juventus have been the best in europe in last 10 years for taking top quality free transfers....Pirlo. Matudi. There was talk of De Gea last week.

Think his style would go well in Seria A.

Don't know if it was 5 years but he basically strung the club along with his agent for months while a good offer was on the table and ready to be signed.
His agent continued exploring options even though Ramsey wanted to stay, word got out, Gazidis (who was a huge fan) left for AC Milan. Raul & Emery met, decided "f this", we got to cut the wage bill, have Iwobi/Smithe-Rowe/Nelsson and Ozil on 300k a week and rescinded the offer. It's sad that it ends this way but, long-term, it might be the right thing to do. Aaron can only blame hismelf and his agent for trying to push it too far.
