Aaron Ramseys contract situation

Just last season he got a goal or assist every 108 minutes. That would make him like the most productive player in our team. Miles better than Pogba's one every 160 minutes.

And he's indeed had just one season where he was scoring/assisting for fun, which is exactly mine and Carl's point?

I'm not implying he's shit or anything, just don't think he'd fix our problems at all.

Not too keen on this. I don't think he would be an upgrade for us at all to be honest.

I think we need to send a message and move in the right direction, signing Ramsey probably isn't fitting that bill.

He is awfully injury prone too... depending on his wage demands, would you really want someone sat on the sideline soaking up £150-200K a week off our budget? Probably not.

The only way I would probably welcome the move is if we get him at a majorly cut price like <=£15M, his wages are reasonable and if he got given a rotational role rather than starting most games.

Absolutely right about him making a mistake joining Arsenal. Wenger tried to turn him into Lampard when Fergie would have seen his limitations and turned him into an upgraded Darren Fletcher.

Hugely overrated player.
I think he turned a very decent player regardless, his regret would probably go towards the trophies he could have won under SAF. We also could have done with him considering our midfield situation in those years. Overrated depends what do you believe of his reputation, I think if he stays fit, he is a very useful player, capable of scoring good numbers.

Good player, but injury prone and an awful fit with our current midfielders.

If we're all the way back to glazernomics now I'm sure they would love to sell Pogba for 150-200m and replace him with Ramsey on a free though.

I'd take him, easily. He's a goal threat and seems to be very mentally tough - he'd be a really useful player to have.

I'd happily have him here.

Think he's jaded at Arsenal but when he's on it he's brilliant.

Would be a pointless signing imo. He chose Arsenal over us so feck him.

Turned us down before, so can't see him coming now unless we have new coach in in Jan who fancies him ? He get more money out of us as well. Don't think Jose wants him.

Think he is immensely overrated, can't play a disciplined midfield role and does not have the attacking production consistently to justify a freer role.

No thanks. Have people seen what he wants to earn? Rumors are between 220 and 270k. Arsenal is turning him down because they don’t want to pay him that much. No way in hell should we pay him that. That would be absolutely insane for someone who could end up not even being a starter. People are already saying he would be nice to have for depth. Not only is he not worth that much, but he is also injury prone.

Arsenal played themselves by giving Özil and insane 350K a week, we should learn from that mistake.

Sanchez.......

Kind of broke Eds trust in super salary players in my view. We truly are stuck with him.

Ref Ramsay, at £135k a week, yes, not a penny more.

Hard pass but i know this place really likes "freebies", when people wanted Ozil, why not this guy.

No more players past their peak coming in on super high wages please. Our bench should be full of young hungry players not lazy injury prone players

In the final year of hia contract and Arsenal seem to be having trouble renewing.

Press bollocks suggest Utd & Chelsea are sniffing around considering either a cut price bid in January or a free next summer.

What are the cafs thoughts?

Him and Sanchez hate each other if I remember correctly.

I'd take him. He's good at a deeper role and popping up running into the box. Rubbish in anything more advanced than that so if anything it suits us.

If he wants 250k/w, the only place he might get that is China. Even at United with our inflated salaries, he'd be making more than ddg and Lukaku and not much less than Pogba.

If he is looking for 220k to 270k/week then I am happy to let him go for free next summer. I rate him as a player and his issue in our setup is he often forget his defensive duty and his questionable positioning.

I could see him going to Everton to be Gueye's partner behind Sigurdsson. They have money to throw around now and their fans hate Schneiderlin and Tom Davies is only 20. If they want to play good football they need some skill and passing in midfield and he's got that at least.

For us, I don't think he really makes sense as we've bought Fred and have Herrera and Pereira and even as a 10/Pogba backup we have Lingard who is healthy and quicker, though a worse player. I guess if Pogba leaves and we want to spend the 100M or whatever from that on our problem spots (CB, FB, RW) we could do worse than a Ramsey-Fred-Matic midfield with Herrera and Pereira backing them up but I think Ramsey's injury history makes that way too big a risk, so we'd probably buy someone like Milinkovic-Savic or another big name.

Personally, I prefer him as a 10, but those roles are tough to come by. If he'd take a pay cut I bet some smart foreign team that plays attractive football and uses central midfielders to support their strikers like Sevilla, Hoffenheim or Lazio could get the best out of him.

A player who wants far too much money per week, is more likely to decline early to due past injuries, wouldn't improve our starting xi, and turned us down ten years ago.
Certainly a signing I could see us making.

Can't work out whether the thread title is a better name for a band or an album.

I wonder if the fans' treatment of him a few years ago is still on his mind. After he came back from his broken leg, everyone supported him initially but people's patience eventually ran out and he became a scapegoat. Wenger sat him down and told him that the fans don't dislike him personally and try to simplify his game.

It might seem like a small thing but footballers are human and Ramsey has never really had the complete love and adoration from the fans that say a Jack Wilshere had.

That and the fact I don't think he has much of an emotional connection to the club, I really don't see why he would stay, unless we give him a ridiculous amount of money and no other top club comes in for him

This thread's a bit quiet - I wonder if we should be monitoring him? If we are going to move on and try to play more attacking football with more relevant possession, Ramsay on a free is a good option IMO.

If we can keep hold of Pogba, we'd have the makings of a very good technical midfield three in Ramsay, Pogba & Perieira. All good on the ball, all a decent age and importantly none are slow old dinosaurs.

And more importantly not one of them is much good at defending. It'd be a terrible 3.

In a proper midfield 3 we have AM's like Pogba, Mata and Lingard, we have guys that can run around a lot and off box to box coverage in Herrera and Fred, but we lack a player that can control the tempo of that midfield, an upgrade on Matic, Ramsey isn't the answer to that.
