Books A Song of Ice and Fire (Books) | TV show? What TV show?

I love how they're all pretty much at the same stage as us in the other thread, but not fully, so no one's really saying it.

It will be easy enough to know if Jon Snow is dead or not. He comes to Iceland every year to film. It's a small country, you can't go completely anonymous.

Is there any line of theory going that Jon may rise from the dead on the side of the White Walkers?

Like the rebels pin his body up instead of burning it to make a point to the rest of the watch and the wildlings, then all of a sudden his eyes turn blue and he goes apeshit on them all right as the Walkers attack castle black in huge force. Realizing there is something special about Jon they then turn him into something more than a mere zombie, some kind of white walker lieutenant with a pet zombie direwolf.

 @akash02

As an aside, I think at this point I may only be watching this show because GRRM is taking too damn long with the rest of the books. Jon's stabbing makes absolutely no sense in the show (I've always thought it was a bit suspect in the novels but at least you can see the reasoning behind it following the pink letter).
I keep up with the show from now on because I've dedicated so much into it and have come so far I may as well continue viewing. I can't do the whole 'boycott because books aren't out'.

The producers will probably put it down to him only being there for his death scenes. Sort of like Tywin this season. I do think he's very much alive - no amount of denial will change that.

There is, and the battle becomes Ice (Jon and Others) vs Fire (Dany and dragons). Seems a bit iffy as an end game plot. Looking at reddit and the ASOIAF forums any possibility has been theorised, basically. I've seen some that argue that the Others are actually good guys...

Yeah there is that as well. I don't see the point in boycotting now because the books aren't out, there have been quite a few spoilers for book readers already.

If they leave Jon dead for a season would he not be all corpsey when he comes back?

The show screwed up Jon's story. Why would the Night's Watch kill him after they let him and the Wildlings through the Wall? They just killed the only man that can "control" the Wildlings, who are now south of the Wall. He doesn't try to leave to go fight the Boltons or to involve the Watch in the wars, which is what gets him killed in the books.

I don't get the whole "I only watch the show because..." stuff, sure it's gone downhill since they deviated from the books, especially this season (though S4 was arguably the best since S1), but it's still better than most shows on TV. I mean Hardhome was one of the best episodes of TV I've seen with possibly the best TV battle ever.

I guess people have incredibly high expectations, which is what happens when a show is so popular, so acclaimed and then people go around professing it as the greatest show ever (I wouldn't even have it in my top ten), but it's still really good, I still really look forward to watching it, and not just because I "feel like I need to" or whatever.

Yes, I've come across such a theory. It ties up with GRRM's recent words about Lady Stoneheart - that her role is to show that death changes you and you're not the same person once you're revived. I wouldn't like that though, in all honesty.

Beric Dondarrion was pretty similar though, if I remember right?

Well, not really, apparently. GRRM said something about him, as well. That he tried to show that (that death changes you) with Beric, at first. He was just some cocky knight at the Hand's Tournament in the first book. Then, after he dies, he's all serious and righteous. The whole thing doesn't sound very convincing though. I'll try to find the link to that interview.

EDIT: Here it is: http://www.ew.com/article/2015/05/31/game-thrones-lady-stoneheart
Last paragraph is about Beric. The previous two about Lady Stoneheart and the role of resurrections in general.

Here you go:

"Lady Stoneheart is not Cateyln. I’ve tried to set it up beforehand with Beric Dondarrion and his repeated [resurrections]. There’s a brief appearance by Beric in Book One and he rides into the city and he’s this flamboyant Southern knight. That’s not that man we meet later on.”

I don't think Jon's going to follow the same route though. The prologue in DwD was there for a reason as was the fact that Jon's last word is Ghost. He's not going to die.

Thought it was better to post it on here, as its speculation despite the show practically catching up with the books.

I was watching a few scenes on YouTube and stumbled across one where Stannis, Mellisandre and their bannermen meet Renly, Brienne and their Bannerman. Anyway, Mel (referring to Stannis) said 'He is the Lords chosen, born amongst salt and smoke'. Now I may be taking that too literally, but as we've just found out, Stannis isn't actually the Lords chosen and many speculate it's Jon.

My theory is, that Jon actually is the AA and I could see him getting burned to prevent him becoming a Wight, but emerging from the fires just as Dany did. Would definitely strengthen the theory is he also turns out to be a Targ.

Any thoughts on him Warging into Ghost and his body dying and then maybe warging into someone else like a Bolton to take back Winterfell in an unusual way............

I guess that is hollywood enough to be a part of the show.

Doubt it.

Jon will stay at the wall imo. Remember when as he's being stabbed he experiences a sudden onset of cold. I reckon the others have arrived at the wall...

I still enjoy it, thought this season was trashy but fun.
S1 was brilliant though and if they'd managed to hold up that level of quality i'd put it up there with the soprano's or whatever.

They didn't though, each season has been worse than the last imo.
Thought S4 was kind of poor personally.

I'm sure this will resonate with many of you:

I agree, but I'm also curious what would be in your top 10, because there aren't a lot of TV shows with 5 seasons, which have been consistently good IMO.

The Wire, The Sopranos, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Arrested Development, The Office (UK), Band of Brothers, Deadwood, Carnivale, Oz, are 10 off the top of my head.

Game of Thrones, Walking Dead, The 100, Heroes, Lost, My Wife and Kids, Arrow, Oz, 24 and The Bill are mine.

Game of Thrones has to be in there, it's right up there alongside all those others listed.

Ever watched Rome? You might like it

Carnivale's second season kind of ruined it for me. I guess they were rushing at that point to give some kind of resolution. First season was great though.
Didn't like breaking bad after watching all except the last season and didn't get the hype, then i watched the last season a couple of years later and 'got it' i guess. The end kind of made a decent show brilliant imo.

My list would prob be
Deadwood, Wire, Soprano's, Firefly, Black Books, Mad Men (though i got a bit bored of it in the middle) ... im sure there are others but they dont spring to mind as quickly as them.
Outside of season 1 GoT hasn't been up to that standard (2 and 3 were close enough)

Sherlock and the bridge were both very good actually. I do like that whole scandinavian noir thing.
