A serious look at Mauricio Pochettino

If for whatever reason there's no jobs other than Barca to step into, I don't see him turning it down despite what he said and having played and managed Espanyol. Enough time passes and he has a career to worry about.

Thing is, most expect him to take up a next level club but the may find himself at something similar to Spurs, no offence, if he''s adamant. There's not that many really big clubs or opportunities at any given time.

I don't think he would even consider it to be honest.

Poch will never manage Barca.
I am pretty much certain that he will end up there and while he was linked with Real i always thought that he will end up in Barca. He is perfect manager for them. The fact that he said in the past how he will not coach them because of respect to Espanyol is just rubbish. He( like every manager or player) is a pro, being Barca manager( among few other clubs) is a peak which you can achieve in that business and that talk about some fake loyalty is just empty talk which is seen many times in the past from players and managers.
And this is coming from someone who is his huge fan and my biggest wish is that he becomes our manager soon as possible.

We are going to rue missing out on him down to being reactive rather than proactive, as always.

Its really not, he didn't just say he wouldn't manage Barca he said it would be impossible.

"It is more than understood [that I will never take over]. My path and that of Barcelona are different, opposite directions. Coaching there would be impossible."

Espanyol was a massive part of his life and Poch, IMO is honourable and passionate, he wouldn't take the Barca job, in my opinion of course.

So you are saying that we still have a chance?
Kidding aside, i still think that he will accept offer and find some excuse for that quote. It would be sensible move for him and i doubt that anybody could blame him for doing that.

We are doing huge mistake by not being ruthless and proactive here. Huge mistake which will haunt us

He won't do it. He is an honorable man and he has said in the past he would never do it.

Ed Woodward should be on the phone to Poch’s people right now and making contingency plans should it go tits up with Solskjær, which it currently looks to be heading that way. Actually be pro active for once.
Did that with Mourinho.

I can see a scenario where United stick with Ole or we wait to the end of the season, assess Ole and try to go for Poch who has either already got a job or has been in negotiations for months with whoever.

Whether it's coincidence or not, I do think Ole has done well in putting Williams in, Rashford's best season, Martial and James doing well. McTominay has been excellent. I thought Williams was ready when I first saw him, Ole said the same thing and he also sees the talent of Greenwood and his best finisher comment has shown to be true so far. Progress is slower than some would like but he gives players like these a platform and help, Ole is good at seeing a player, and knowing United's tradition of bringing young players through, just don't think he'll be good enough manager in general unless clubs around us continue to falter.

It's tempting for the club to let Ole continue with this burgeoning squad.

There are two scenarios in my head.
1) Ed made a contact already with Poch and made a deal for summer. We don't need to pay fee to Spurs and if Ole fails to get 4th spot we also don't need to pay big compensation to Ole. This is scenario based on the fact that Woodward is a businessman who knows who will bring him money and not to mention that he likes new shiny toys like Poch.
2) Ed ( for now) really believes 100% in Ole and all that shit about long term and giving him time is true. Plus he doesn't want to admit that he was wrong with Ole. So he will give him another summer to rebuild. In october or november after another bad run of results Ole will be sacked, Poch in Bayern or Barca and we will end with who knows who.
Scenario based on the fact that Ed is clueless in football stuff.

I agree that Ole has done a few things right but he is tactically clueless.
Or maybe not clueless but so far behind the top dogs.
Woody for sure made contact with Poch. If there are already talks about taking over in the summer or just „wait and let’s talk again in a few months if it doesn’t turn out like we hoped“ is something we can only speculate about.

Ole will be giving another season unless, things completely crumble. Even though Ole is doing worse than any of our previous managers at the moment, he has some contingency with Pogba injuries and proposing a rebuilding project that will take time.

This January, it seems like we will make some good additions that will give him a push to win the Europa league, fa cup and/or get into top four. That will be enough to save his job.Even if Ole gets fifth and no trophies, I still believe Woodward will be patient with him because the atmosphere here at United isn’t destructive. Next season will be when he will really be in the hot seat and be required to challenge for the premier league title and champions league.

It is a shame because the squad we have is perfect for a manager like Pochettino to thrive in.

That would make a lot of sense. I'm still not convinced by him, but he'd obviously be a step up from Ole.

Ole to finish the season and step aside would be the best for everyone I think.

Can I ask what Phil said?

Did you listen? Can you summarise?

United have made contact with Pochettino through an intermediary. Pochettino doesn't want to take any job before the summer, but has submitted a list of demands, should he be offered the role at the end of the season.

If true, could simply be a case of United covering their bases, rather than making any kind of decision re Solskjaer.

I'm hoping for the same outcome.

I hope Ole can remain at the club in a formal capacity - coach, scout or DOF - as I think he has much to offer.

To be honest, we'd be absolutely stupid not to make any kind of contact with potential suitors, only because times are so uncertain under Solksjaer, we could go on a barnstorming run and finish top 3, we could fall into the abyss and into the lower half of the table, we just don't know at this point. IF we have made contact then it's the smart move, and smart by Pochettino IF he has made a list of demands.

I hope it's true. I don't wanna take too much creedence in what Pilib says, but it is hard to ignore that he does have some kind of connection to the club, he isn't an ITK by any means, but he often gets interviews with the players or staff when others can't.

Is he saying we are in touch with P?

Cheers. A "list of demands" sounds reassuring.

He's saying over the last few weeks, through an intermediary, we have spoken to him about the possibility, but that Pochettino wouldn't be interested until the summer and would have a list of demands basically in order to accept, which, IF true, would be a smart move on his part considering he no doubt has seen how our board operates.

Thanks. Anything else?

Just that he wants assurances before possibly taking over. He didn't mention what they were. Could be anything from having his own coaching team, to not having or indeed having a DoF liaising between him and the board. In short, he didn't give out details of assurances but we can only speculate at this point. But it seems like a good move from Poch seeing as we're run like fecking amateurs on the footballing side of things.

Luckily this is your head, and not the head of those who run the club.

Hilarious if we skip over this man and let Barcelona or another club get him

Would be hilarious if we sack Ole, start the rebuild yet again and set us back a few years get a bad run of results and sack Poch and then get someone else in & start all over again.

So Poch didn't fancy Longstaff much, but rates Bruno, I wonder what he'll do with Pogba.

Now this has got to be a joke surely? Comedian right? You surely don’t believe this do you? hahaha! The absolute disrespect to Ole, the disrespect to Man Utd as a whole. WOW.

You seriously think Poch is running the club from behind the scenes. Jheeze. I don’t know if I can believe it. That’s crazy man, tell me more.

Pilib De Brun.

More likely because he's linked to Barcelona, thought it seems to be differing opinions of "he's been asked" to "he flat out said no cause of his roots with Espanyol"

Either way it looks like it's the Real Betis manager thats taking over at Barca so Pochettino still available it seems, unless there's a shocker and he is announced.

Come on now, it was obviously said in jest.

If I was serious then Ole yes, but the disrespect to Man Utd? Do me a favour, they don't need any help from me.

Oh, and unashamedly I'd love Poch to take over in the summer.

I don't think he would even consider it to be honest.

It's those Espanyol connections, he was a player, then a coach. It is a stretch for sure, I dont think he is any rush, waiting for the right project that ticks his boxes.

Rebuild rebuild rebuild, it's all I ever hear on this forum, funny enough we seem to be the only club in world football that seems to be in a perpetual state of it, even other clubs who change managers on the reg aren't constantly rebuilding.

Maybe its just because Pochettino is a hell of a better manager than Ole and Ole has proven absolutely nothing in be able to carry a "rebuild" through. It's one thing to say "Oh we just sack after a few bad results" but we don't do we, if we as a club sacked managers after a few bad results we'd have gone through double the amount of managers we have done since Fergie retired. We sack managers because the state of the football on the pitch has been horrendous, as have the transfer dealings and any number of things. Please point to any statistic or facet of our style of play on the pitch, our tactics and things like that, that shows how fantastic Ole has been so far, please, show me the Brendan Rodgers effect Ole has had on this team, like he has had on Leicester.
