A serious look at Mauricio Pochettino

So what do you think though, Poch to finish above Ole next season?

I honestly can't think of any prediction for us till I see the summer business. If we end up having as terrible summer as the last one, I think it's gonna another 4th scrapping campaign.

You can't be serious. Why can't some fans have some concerns?

For what it's worth, Poch has done a great job this season considering the lack of investment, injuries and the form of key players.

Still not confirmed top four ahead of an Arsenal and Chelsea who have appointed new managers and United who sacked our manager at a point where Spurs had about a twelve point advantage.

Spurs have several top quality players, and a settled squad. Including possibly the most valuable striker in the world. It shouldn’t have required any signings to have comfortably secured top four this season.

Not saying he’s not a good manager, but the way some people go on you’d think he was at Everton or Burnley.

Did Glaston really say that Foyth red was harsh?!!!:lol:

Big thing for me was why did Spurs have such a poor mentality today.

From about 20 minutes in they played like a bunch of raging lunatics, frothing at the mouth and lunging into players unnecessarily. Bournemouth away is usually a sedate fixture, it's not like a London derby like Arsenal or Spurs when weve seen Spurs lose the plot often or they were playing a niggly team like Cardiff who get you into battles.

They weren't prepared properly today. Bit of a problem when they have one of their biggest matches in decades on Wednesday when cool heads will very much be needed.

6 away defeats in succession in the PL. And people still want him over Ole, after he has had several seasons to build his team, whilst Ole hasn't signed a single player yet and done better than Poch since Christmas. Thank God we have Ole and not Poch.

Yes he did. According to him Son losing his shite and taking it out on an opponent also didn't warrant a red. Wonder why he neglected to mention Dier.. :wenger::lol:

I don’t get the hype over Poch. Every year he has spells where the team is doing well and then they always crash. Has never had sustained consistency yet Ole has done better in his brief time here since he’s taken over.

Could care less. At least in Ole we have a manager who will be able to get results more or less similar to his and on top who has Red Devil blood pumping in his veins. Knowing the tradition and standards and will not settle for less than it. At least he’ll be allowed to be vicious and clear house if need be. He’s one of us and not an outsider who will be pushed around by the higher ups.

Quick little bump. Stands truer and truer as the days pass by.

Nothing special about Poch. Props to him though for building Tottenham up to where there are now. But beyond that, he doesn’t have any accolades to show for. Doesn’t get the job done.

Ole > Poch for United, for reasons mentioned in quoted previous post. Prove me wrong if you think otherwise

I think he a very good manager. I don’t understand why he’s disliked soo much on here. He is also one of the few managers that doesn’t moan and is basically unbearable when he is on the losing side.

13 losses in a a campaign is way too much, but they only drew 1 game. Weird.

Wonder if he becomes available if Spurs fluff their Champions League qualification.

I know he’s been up and down this season but he’s had to work on relatively meagre resources and their squad is falling apart in the run in.

Spurs will win their last game. CL is secured for them mostly.

Not sure on that. They’re falling apart currently. They’ve lost their last two games at their home stadium. They’ve got a massive game midweek. Son will be suspended, Foyth will be suspended, Kane is injured. Everton are in fantastic form and are barely conceding at the moment.

You looking at their books?

Its just how it is, it was reported in the summer, reported by journalists close to him and the club etc.

Its only when the results start going south its suddenly Levys fault they didnt sign ANY players at all.

Didn't really matter in the end .

You'll lose against Everton as well just to annoy us.

We will lose to both Ajax and Everton, barring an act of god. Tbh like most United fans I just want the season over at this point. We need some new blood, and I will say it now that it is on Levy to show the cash, £100m-£150m required I’d say, time will tell.

Think you'll beat Ajax with Son.

I can definitely see Son putting a shift in to make up for Bounemouth, if Eriksen and Dele can both do the same we have a chance. I just haven't seen that for a good while now. Maybe now that we’re basically guaranteed top 4 unless we lose on GD. The guys will go out and do it.

An early goal is key. It changes the psychological dynamic completely.

We're only 1 goal down against Ajax. An act of God is what I'd describe Liverpool as needing: 3 - 0 down, no away goal scored and up against what is perhaps the best team on the planet.

Spurs have nothing like as big a challenge to get through.

GlastonSpur I like u but we have been playing like a dog with 2 septic legs lately , we have the ability so let’s see.

I thought the Son red was a bit soft, there are pushes week in week out in games. Just because Lerma made a meal of it rolling around on the ground like he had been shot. But that evens ouf for Dier, who should definitely of been sent off for two professional fouls. Not only that but Dier swept the legs ouf from under a Bournemouth player in the box upending him and also got away with it.

Foyth though was a straight red, studs up, no real control over the lunge, shin high. Those kind of challenges are red cards all day long, along with the two footed lunges. Glaston is RAWK levels of bias if he thought that was soft. Id like to know what Glaston considers a red  Is it something along the lines of "is his leg broken? No, then not a red card".

This is beyond weird on the eve of their biggest game decades.

150 for Pogba. 100 more auctioning off the unusables. Then drop 50 million trying to get this guy. Give him 350 to spend. And let's try again. Ole can stay on in some cheerleading capacity. Tonight has just shifted the goalposts again.

Those Poch comments are weird. Maybe something got a bit lost in translation.

Didn't he mean winning CL will be the peak and no way to achieve better than it so better to leave immediately after such achievement?

Glaston makes an ass of himself yet again

Mata>Messi. Mata scored two goals at Anfield. Messi zero

Glaston makes an ass of himself yet again

So you predicted a Liverpool 4 - 0 win did you?

Big Ben Foster - whoever he is - makes an ass of himself by criticising those who thought that Liverpool progressing to the final was very unlikely.

Yep to me it’s clear what he meant, just strange timing to say such a thing isn’t it ?

He makes quite a lot of jokes that don’t quite go down the way he thought they would. There are still times where his English gets confused, you always see him looking towards a member of staff, in this case to his right when he needs help understanding things.

I have been one of his biggest advocates for a long time but have started to doubt him during this last run of horrendous form. Even so my ideal way to take the club forward would still be him working alongside a quality DOF. Maybe Mitchell as they've worked together in the past. I'm dissapointed we didn't go for him.

So he did turn down an offer from Real Madrid

Mauricio Pochettino unwilling to sacrifice his values for Real Madrid move

Pochettino has revealed that he turned down an offer from Real Madrid last summer.

Daniel Levy also rejected advances from Los Blancos and the Argentine was keen to honour his chairman’s trust.

Pochettino claims he would have gone against his principles by signing a new deal with Spurs and then leaving.

Pochettino revealed to El Pais:

“The situation was difficult.
“The dream of every coach was at stake: to lead the biggest teams that exist. And you must say no. That is tremendous.
“It generates a conflict. Because you know that if a coach wants to leave, he leaves.
“But I had just signed a renewal with Tottenham. And I felt that I could not do anything.
“Daniel Levy did not accept the offers to free me and if they ask me to break the contract I can not accept it because I can not behave like that.
“If my president thinks I’m going to continue, I’m not going to be scared.
“Those are not my values.
“Why is it going to be good for a club to sign a coach who violates his commitments?”
Pochettino: “Players who wanted to leave: various”

Following a summer of no new signings, Pochettino was contacted by some of his players asking to leave.

But instead of worrying, their desires to move pleased him as they were showing ambition.

The 47-year-old warned Levy to trust the players who wanted to leave as these are the type of players required at Tottenham.

Pochettino added:

“After four years, last summer a line needed to be drawn.
“Chances to sign players: none.
“Players who wanted to leave: various.
“They called me during the World Cup and said: ‘Boss, if this team wants me I’m leaving.’
“‘Speak with the chairman.’ ‘Yeah, but I’m telling you because I’m interested in playing for another team.’
“‘Good, good.’ And I said to the chairman: ‘I don’t trust the players who want to stay, not the ones who want to leave, because if they want to join a bigger club most of the time it’s because they are ambitious and want to win titles.’
“That is the type of footballer Tottenham need because this player is going to give everything he has.”

Pretty much the way I seen it and the players wanting to leave I’d say are Toby, Dier and probably Eriksen... but I think the key words are *if a certain club comes in for them*.

I am under no false thoughts that Poch is with us for life, I’d say he will stay probably 2 more seasons. Unless of course we can become more competitive. I’d bet his next post will be Real or PSG.

Imagine not wanting Pochettino at United.
