A caretaker manager

Blanc or Rangnick for me. Give them until the summer and evaluate then. Dont fecking give them a new 3 year contract after 2 months.

Rangnick could be someone we could keep as DOF as well after steadying the ship, and then bring in Ten Hag as manager.

I wonder if Ole would be prepared to work alongside someone like Rangnick until the end of the season and then step down with Rangnick moving upstairs, or would his personal pride not allow it.

If you read my post carefully you'll see I mentioned him taking charge in the interim. Which top tier manager aside from Conte and Zidane (neither of which suit us in my opinion) would be available mid-season?

I'm not saying Ronaldo would be an elite manager but he would steer us forward until we find someone who can.

I don’t think an interim manager should come from the current playing staff. It’s too much for one man at this level.

Once again, stuff like this is far too sensible. We have almost no football people on the board, and the ones that are are legacy people who aren’t thinking about this kind of out of the box stuff.

I kept suggesting this as a joke and now you're gonna end up making people think I was serious.

Roy Keane + Micah Richards as his sidekick is the only logical choice. We'd lose most of our games, plus Keano would be up for multiple assault charges within a month, but the entertainment factor will be off the charts. It'd be like a non-stop party for 28 days straight.

You know it makes sense Edward, get it done.

Decide...

Bruce
Rooney
Keane
Scholes

Get Brucie in and the bonus will be Ten Hag and VDS at the helm next season. I know you don't get anything for a pair...

Come on Brucie.

Can't be any of our lot. We need to let the past go. I'd personally have an outsider and what better way to demonstrate we are moving on then to bring Fergie out to the sidelines and have two of the new assistants restrain him while the new manager twats the living shite out of him. It's all about grand gestures now.

Hahaha great minds and all. But in all seriousness what more could we possibly lose?

I think his teammates might take issue when they walk in to their first tactics meeting and see a smiling Ronaldo unveil a chalkboard that simply displays the words "pass to Cristiano".

Hey it's so crazy it might just work!

We’d finally be at that stage
just two more decades to go after that.

Rangnick is an interesting option, hasn’t he been mentioned as a possibility for Newcastle though? The idea him being long-term DoF after settling the team down for rest of season is intriguing but not sure how one sells that deal unless he wants such a role here. Blanc was mentioned before Ole came in but I seem to remember that he only wanted a permanent, not temp, role. Given he’s been a bit out of the top jobs for a bit, he might be more susceptible now to a temp role with a high profile.

And to think, if Ole had only recruited some real coaching talent we might not even be having this discussion…

Assuming this is a serious thread - Laurent Blanc. Currently coaching in Qatar so I'm sure he could be convinced to steady the ship for the season. Has a decent track record as manager, and from what I recall prefers a 4-2-3-1.

Would do a brilliant caretaker job i think

Funnily enough, I've seen similarities between Roy Evans and Solskjaer. Club men, decent people, brought good spirit back to the club, built a good squad, could play teams off the park at times, defending terrible...

It’s Hiddink’s stock-in-trade. Out of retirement for a nice little payoff in the summer?

He's 74 and was last coaching China's U21s and some tiny Caribbean Island's national team. Think we should just let him enjoy his retirement

Eddie Howe to steer United towards Ten Hag's football next season. Simple.
But what if he utterly fails? The people at the top of the pyramid don't understand football, so if that happens, they likely get reactive again and swing to a different type of manager.

Setting the vision in squad building is still the job of DoF, which I don't believe we had it right.

Seeing Ralf Ragnick till end of the season then he becomes DOF. I always loved that idea but don't we have a DOF now? Or people (Murtoughy and Fletcher) employed to do what a DOF will do

Would be awesome to see SAF take charge till the end of the season.

It would be even better to watch him with a bottle of whiskey in one hand, cigar in the other, strolling past pictures of Moyes, van Gaal, Mourinho and then Solskjaer with a grimace.

He takes a drag of his cigar, a gulp of whiskey, tosses both over his shoulder, flips the one finger salute to the manager wall saying "Feck it you cnuts, let me show you how its done..." Before bursting through the doors and onto the training ground!

The rest is history.

Posts like this is why we will never evolve

Would be interesting, but they will never involve a non British one, not part of the family

Hiddink would be my favourite if he wants to come out of retirement. Alternatively Di Matteo, Gattuso or Blanc could do the trick

That can actually work. Ole does zero coaching, his tactics are crap and he is a living corpse at the touch line. Thus he can focus on interviews, waving at proud Sir during the game and watching the game from the Ipad. Meanwhile Conte does the rest.

The United tinged media would backed them because of Mates FC and so would the top reds. Ole, Carrick and Co would also get real on the job training by shadowing Conte and his coaching staff (ie bringing them coffee and carrying cones etc). Phelan would be thrilled to cover the same role he had when Carlos, Rene and Sir was still here

Any caretaker manager from outside the club will be appointed permanently if he manages to do half decently for the rest of the season as the board are cheap and utterly stupid.

So we need to be careful what we wish for. Blanc as permanent manager for the next 3 seasons? I can see that happening.

All this comes down to board incompetence. The complacency and sheer idiocy to have not been lining up new manager options for the last few weeks is a new low even for them. Leading to the panicking and media bonfire that we are now witnessing.
