Kudos to antohan for keeping it moving along quickly but I think it's very harsh on Crustanoid really. Hopefully he would've opted out anyway.
 
I know I don't have the best track record in these drafts but I would be willing to join up as an assistant manager if anyone wants me

The deciding factor to me was that his first turn was gone hours ago (after a six hour wait) and his last activity had been after that. That is, despite being entitled to make a pick he had come and gone without making one.

I think it is fair to expect people to check out whether we are all waiting around for them.
 
tbf, he also didn't make a post since last night, way before his first pick.

i sometimes come on here quickly on my phone in work by pure accident of it being the last page i was on, but i know that still shows up on the currently active list.

I completely understand your logic but it's easy to just skip out the fantasy draft thread subconsciously when skimming through the thread titles and this one started up very suddenly - I wouldn't have noticed it started if it wasn't for my assistant.

I'm sure he'll cope anyway.

I was going to go with Cannavaro. Don't know about everyone else but after the likes of Keane, Davids, Vieira and Makalele going first there's a distinct lack of defensive central midfielders. I only got about 5 names in mind.

I'm by no means having a go at him, I'm just stating the basis for making that decision.

Didn't know about the phone last-page thing though, if that's the case it's a bummer.
 
Yep I thought it was looking pretty short on great midfielders - I don't even think there's all that many attacking midfielders either - but stacked with forwards. One holding midfielder I'm surprised hasn't gone yet though.

I agree which is why I went for a central midfield pairing first that covers the bases so I could go a good five picks or more before looking centrally again should I not go with a flat four.

He had posted the Heskey picture, he knew it was on.

Again, I understand there maybe good reasons he didn't post, but there was a precedent from last time around, people who had missed out wanting to come on and that recent activity log (which unfortunately could be purely accidental, I had no idea about that). It all pointed in the same direction.

Which was my worry all along. Seeing how the last tourno panned out defensive midfielders were going to go in the first loop.

I just couldn't resist Zidane, but Keano was right up there :(
 
If you didn't pick Zidane one of the first posts following yours would be asking you why you didn't pick him.

Impossible choice. I would have probably picked Zidane too. He's the best player in the draft after all. Although he's a lot harder to fit into a team than Keano.

It isn't a case of who the best player is, it is a case of who outclasses his direct opponents - Zidane was the best playmaker in an era of incredibly gifted midfielders, players who could nullify his influence, hence my first pick was Makelele.

Henry on the otherhand was the most skilled and fluid striker in an era when the best defenders were a level below what they were ten years previously - the likes of Nesta, Cannavaro and Ferdinand picked do not meet the likes of Baresi or Bergomi before them whilst Henry is better than the likes of Romario.

I was tempted to put Zidane next to antohan as I thought it was a no brainer to pick Zidane.

Then I thought if we did a current fantasy draft and I'm going first, I wouldn't pick the guy most of you would pick... ;)
 
Sorry everyone - I've been in a whirlwind of work hell with only my phone to post which lost battery before I could manage to. Home now - massive thanks to DE for getting me some good picks and I'll make sure this doesn't happen again! Seems to be moving a lot faster this time. Pretty shocked anyone's of that opinion to be honest (probably more so that anyone'd have him over Zidane!), don't think he'd be in the top 5 forwards in this draft and the last one. Still a brilliant footballer of course. I've always wondered how Henry was viewed outside of the UK (and those who supported PL teams) but I doubt it's quite as highly as he is within the UK.

Btw, for some reason my PC has stopped accessing the caf and a number of Uk websites (I'm checking with my ISP what the deal is).
