Shame about the injuries, at his peak he was a better attacking midfielder than any in football today. Everyone loves a lazy genius.
Played 11 seasons with Bayern. Won the league 6 times, the CL once and lost to us in '99. Also has 11 other cup titles with Bayern. Twice the African Player of the year runner up. Youngest defender to score in the CL and the most capped African in the CL with 60 games.

Yups, one of those I was referring to when going on about injuries. A lot of fine players go off the radar/miss key tournaments as a result of badly timed injuries and their legacy is somewhat tainted by pure bad luck.

I've been there with my wife, not birth-related, but the usual missus speech when you are on the caf and she feels like the caf "is winning" and there's something wrong in the relationship because you paid no attention to her latest pair of shoes.
I mean, today I'm sat there biting my nails following the game on the BBC and caf matchthreads and she comes over, sits next to me, and says she wants to check what's on at the movies
"feck off" didn't work. I had to explain myself, and why I was being so rude. "Extra time, 5mins, 2-1, Arsenal". Not enough, I had to put down the laptop and explain why I had been rude... she understood around April/May time there were important final games when I turned into a monster but this was January... By the time I finish explaining it's full time.

I'm still quite stunned goalies are still available considering Schmeichel and Kahn went first round last one, and there were far more world class keepers in that one than this one.
And neither of those teams got past the group stages. I don't think people put that much importance on GK's when it comes to voting. As long as you don't have someone glaringly error prone, I don't think its very important.

Yeah but Baia and Canizares are actually on par with like the 5th and 6th best from the 70's, at least from the small list I came up with. Half the keepers I randomly wrote down ended up being born in the 60's(mainly 68 and 69), them two included.
