5 stabbed in Dublin | 3 of them children

And don't forget about us poor English. My wife's granny though I was the best Englishman in the entire history of time, and even I only got a "He's OK for an Englishman".

That's high praise.

So not the best of time to visit Dublin?

My friend only returned on weds for a few days to bring his wife for her first visit. They are staying in the city centre!!!

Id Actually say now is the best time to go as the city is being overly policed.

As shocking the scenes were, it’s a bit sh*te that the people who got involved to Protect the kids will be forgotten as everybody focus on the thugs. It’s such a human thing to ignore the good at the expense of the bad.

Its always like that sadly, oportunistic thugs take advantage of protests to loot, burn and break things...

I know and the few-can make it look like it’s representative of the wider community.

Big issue is laws that don’t really punish repeat offenders and weak sentences (probably down to weak laws).

Even in peacetime and when there were less bad things going on, the majority of the news is bad. We Humans just love misery.

Its similar here, whenever something happens its always - a suspect well known to the police. What the hell does that mean. Child or wife beater, a murderer - turns out 9 times of 10 he had a prior record of criminal behaviour and abuse...

Nah, you don't have to explain it to me. I'm fully aware of the shit going on.

It's just that little bit of historical self acknowledgedment could come in handy.

You cnuts nearly abandoned the fecking island 200 years ago looking for a better life, and now some are wondering why are others coming to Ireland.

That's the funny bit.
Brush up on your history for a few hours and rejoin the thread .

Missed this, what's this about?

There's a video going around, where a scumbag takes one out of their picket puts it on and then proceeds to just punch the shit out of someone, for no reason other than the fact that they are a scumbag and that person was the closest to them.

It's almost as funny as them lot across the water, who spent 100s of years roaming the world, raping, murdering, pillaging, create war and enslaving people all in the name of colonisation. But then decide they want to control who can and can't enter their country, because they don't want no more Johnny Foreigners coming in.

Cheers. Haven't seen that video, feck sake there are some animals around :(

Far right getting 20%+ of the vote in Finland,Netherlands,Denmark,Sweden,Switzerland etc.

In ireland they get around 0.3%. Ireland has very few racists compared to elsewhere. All the evidence suggests that racists are a tiny minority in Ireland.
Portuguese Far Right will probably reach 15% to 17% according to latest polls which is depressing. Portugal was always known as a tolerant country where the Far Right had no real representation and now they are about to be the third most voted party of our political system.

Don't forget Germany and Austria. It's especially bad here in Austria. They are winning the next election.
I mostly blame the other parties. Turning a blind eye on existing problems simply isn't going to work. Immigration simply is a huge topic and hoping every task and issue that comes along with it solves itself isn't enough.

Just saw a video of a bunch of scrotes trying to attack the Gardai, followed them down the street. One arrives on his bike and they chase them into a bar or restaurant. They take the bike and fcuk it into the liffey.

All the while chanting about Varadkar and protecting children...and assaulting prisoners.

Absolute scumbags, this wasn't about anything other than scumbags seeing an opportunity to be scum without repercussions.

All the talk about the rise of the right wing in Europe yet it’s a problem globally. Its an indicator that the governments aren’t addressing fundamental problems in their countries properly which is giving these cnuts oxygen.

I'm not as confident as some that we don't have a fascist problem on our hands.

You don't need a large number if they are as well funded and as activist as these cnuts are in ireland.

Upsetting news for the centrists among us is that the single biggest factor in guarding us from even bigger numbers than we see in Europe is the active presence of Sinn Fein. They are arguably the last version of non toxic nationalism left on the continent and occupy our 'patriots', in the modern American sense of the word.

We've discussed this before and I agree. I think we have a massive problem brewing with fascism in this country and this attitude of "it's only a tiny minority of nutters" allows them to grow. Remember it was the same attitude that allowed that orange piece of shit to come to power in America.

It would help if the current governments started listening to people.

It might not be apparent on here because there seems to be a cult like adherence to left wing ideology on everything from gender issues to religion to immigration, which sees anyone that ventures off that path rounded upon as we saw with a poster earlier in this thread after fairly innocuous comments. I think there's always a righteousness and one upmanship online that doesn't always represent genuinely held views but more like massaging online reputations.

But in the real world there are significant numbers of people genuinely sick of seeing ridiculous levels of immigration and the issues it causes while governments singularly fail to address problems. It was even an office conversation in my workplace, ordinary people that are a bit fed up of it! That's why we're seeing a huge verge to the right in certain quarters, some of which go way too far and extreme. There are many that are just looking for a different political option that can actually be trusted to tackle the issue, and unfortunately it does present an opportunity for those that are violent to exploit that gap.

Who?

Has there been any reliable update on the condition of the little girl and the teacher who were critically hurt?

Only that she's still being treated as critical.

I read somewhere that she was stabbed in the chest, not sure if that's true or not.

The 6 year old girl is also still in hospital, although not critical, and the woman involved is still being treated for "serious injuries".

I've a 5 year old daughter myself, can't imagine the nightmare her parents are going through, it's tragic.

Personally I think this is dangerous nonsense. To think this rising right wing rhetoric is a reaction to imaginary Marxism is part of the problem. And lazy mimicry of the american narrative, where it's also untrue.

Ireland is an austerity riddled neo liberal wet dream. It's got a new but scandalous housing problem and the state is gladly overseeing the dismantling of public health.

Still can't wrap my head around that. What kind of a sick human being you have to be to do something like that?

I would suspect the answer is quite likely "someone having some form of psychotic break".

I know that is what we tell ourselves but every human has a duty to off themselves before doing something like that.

Probably.

Although still rooted enough in reality to be able to have the forethought to target totally defenseless victims.

… there seems to be a cult like adherence to left wing ideology (on the Caf) on everything from gender issues to religion to immigration…

But in the real world…
Mental post. Hilarious, really. Caf is very middle of the road. What kind of political spectrum sees this place as having a cult-like adherence to the left. Utter madness.

Child is still in critical condition. Teacher improved but serious, I heard on the radio. Attacker also seriously injured from the kicking he got after being disarmed.

Well said. in a fair society there is more than enough to go around and keep everyone safe and happy and pulling in the same direction but the government is a watered down neo liberal money grabbing entity that really isn’t its own boss. Not to over simplify it but this what happens when people have only really ever had two choices in political party, both historically corrupt and neither are in for the environment, building a much more efficient housing/healthcare/transport/education system or protecting the working or dwindling middle class. It’s a shitshow and we could be a great country because it’s so small and well educated and we have natural resources.

There’ll be a few billionaires who were too big to fail who regrouped and cleaned up in the recessions and kicked it back to the politicians. All while the politicians plead poverty, austerity and make repeated broken promises to the masses. I’m surprised Ireland hasn’t kicked off massively up to this point because it’s clear the government only care about the few people in the position to line their pockets or get them re-elected. I’m not for burning down the streets to get them out or to send a message but I can understand how even moderate people are becoming radicalised when they have been ignored their whole lives. Ireland is big business > the people and it’s shite.
