I was in the States during 2004 when Phelps was going for his eight gold medals. Loved seeing how gutted everyone was that he didn't get them, even though he still got six or something ridiculous. But everyone loves a winner and hates a failure in America, so they say!
I also watched the US lose to Puerto Rico in basketball in a hotel bar, and I must admit that the reactions from the other patrons were some of the funniest I've ever seen. It looked like somenoe had just called and said all their mothers were dead.

What purpose does it serve, and why do people feel the need to "support" and feel "proud" about the accomplishments of people that are mainly competing in an individual sport? Just because they have the same citizenship as you do? I think that some of you have totally lost or forgotten, or never knew in the first place what the Olympic games are supposed to be about.

I saw we had won something and then it was forgot about but then again I personally dont really feel any strong allegiance to Britain or the English football team for example, only for Manchester United.
