21million for Benzema - United rumoured to offer

A 20year old striker should be begging to come play for United no matter who he is.
If he doesn't want to come then we shall find someone better.

Absolutely spot on. If he doesn't want to come then it's his loss, big time. We should start looking elsewhere and not waste time on him IF this is how he really feels

Lyon striker Karim Benzema has admitted that he "loves" Manchester United and would be extremely tempted by a move to Old Trafford.

The France international has scored 21 goals in 33 matches this season, including two for his country.

His impressive ratio has attracted attention from top clubs all over Europe - and speculation of a move has furthered by claims that he "loves" Manchester United.

The versatile front-man has played down talk of a move away from Lyon stating that he would only leave Les Gones after helping them to UEFA Champions League glory.

However, 22-year-old Benzema has admitted that he would be extremely tempted by an offer from the likes of the Old Trafford Club.

"Milan makes me dream," he told Italian sports daily Gazzetta dello sport.

"Also because Ronaldo is there - he's my idol. He's from another planet.

"But I also love Juventus, Inter and Manchester United - the big clubs. What's important is to win.

"I would leave Lyon only to continue to win and when I also feel ready mentally."

His leaving Lyon this summer

Don't kid yourself, there is a very good chance that he'll stay at Lyon, it's probably 70-30 on him staying, and even if he does leave, it's unlikely to be to us.

As I say, he would be a great signing for us, but there really is no point in getting your hopes up.

Is SAF wants him as bad as some of the noises being made lately would suggest, I'd say it's not unlikely at all he'll end up here if he leaves Lyon. We've been good at getting our targets for the past few years.

I'm gutted, considering there were such firm links to him, and that I had already bought the away top.

Do we think he will wear short sleeves or long sleeves for us?

Good on him.

When Ronaldo said he did not want to leave United, I guess Real Madrid fans would be as arrogant as some people on here and call him cnuts or whatever.

yes please. Jancker wasn't that bad!was he?

You'd probably know better, but I swear I heard one of the champions league commentators say he had gone a full year without scoring in one season whilst being a Bayern first teamer.

A very good player Benzema is BUT our top target should be Mario Gomez. German strikers (Jancker excluded) have something different about them when it comes to scoring goals.

If it's about pedigree, United should sign a Brazilian striker, Gomez does look good, but nowhere near the level of Benzema, would rather take Benzema over Gomes anyday

lets see what his decision is if we win the champions league

if we do then i think he may change his mind on who he wants to play for

i agree that Benzema is the better player but Gomez will cost 8-10m pounds at most. he has the talent to become a class forward he is an excellent header of the ball, very good finisher and his technique is improving every year. I reckon he is worth a bid.

Lyon cry foul after Ferguson heaps praise on Benzema

Sir Alex Ferguson's interest in Karim Benzema, a player who seems certain to carry the hopes of the French national team for the next decade, has prompted the Lyon president, Jean-Michel Aulas, to accuse Manchester United of trying to "destabilise" their Champions League opponents.

Ferguson has a strong relationship with Aulas but the growing speculation of a possible summer move for Benzema is beginning to try the patience of one of the most outspoken men in French football. Lyon visit Old Trafford on Tuesday in the return leg of the first Champions League knockout round and Aulas has suggested that United are trying to unsettle the forward.

"If, during the season, Lyon express an interest in a player from another French club, everybody is very quick to cry scandal and criticise us," said Aulas. "But when, a few days before playing Manchester United, I read everywhere that Ferguson is going to make an offer for Benzema, is that not an attempt to destabilise us?"

United will vigorously repel those accusations, pointing out that all Ferguson has done is voice his admiration for the 20-year-old rather than confirming he wants to add him to the Old Trafford payroll.

Ben Foster has set his sights on being United's first-choice goalkeeper next season. The 24-year-old had knee surgery in the summer and has endured a frustrating eight months on the sidelines but he spoke yesterday about starting next season as United's No1 goalkeeper.

"My aim isn't to play at all this season, just to get back to full fitness," said Foster. "But next season is going to be a fresh start and I want to be that No1 goalkeeper.

"Edwin [van der Sar] has been in great form this season but if I can get in there, then you start looking further a field to the England fold. If I can get into that as well, then brilliant."

Sounds like SAF mind games.Did the same with Berbatov before the FA cup game.

FERGIE'S GOT KAR TROUBLE

Lyon have launched an angry attack on Sir Alex Ferguson – accusing him of trying to unsettle their star striker Karim Benzema.

And the French club’s president Jean-Michel Aulas suggested the Manchester United boss is guilty of scandalous behaviour.

France international Benzema, 20, has scored 26 goals this season, and tops Fergie’s wanted list for the summer.

The Scot revealed his admiration for the Lyon-born prodigy last week before United met the French title holders in the Champions League.

Benzema, who Lyon rate at £45m, went on to score in the sides’ 1-1 draw at the Stade Gerland.

A few days before we take on Manchester United, I find I’m reading everywhere that Ferguson is going to make an offer for Benzema. If that is not destabilisation, then I don’t know what is. Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas

But Aulas, 56, has vented his anger at the Old Trafford chief for making public his interest in the player – and raised the temperature ahead of next Tuesday’s second leg.

“The moment Lyon show interest during a season in a player with another French club, people start crying that it is a scandal,” he fumed.

“But, a few days before we take on Manchester United, I find I’m reading everywhere that Ferguson is going to make an offer for Benzema.

“If that is not destabilisation, then I don’t know what is. I don’t have the intention to sell him.”

However, Lyon defender Jean-Alain Boumsong insists that United have the financial muscle to land Benzema.

“Karim is worth £30m,” the former Newcastle and Rangers centre-back said. “We can’t compete with United – they are the richest club in the world.”

Wasn't it Aulas himself that made the headlines about Fergie inquiring about Benzema and Ben Arfa? That, I recall, cued the whole media onto the story - which has been rehashed over & over.

Sir Alex Ferguson has refuted claims from Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas that he has attempted to destabilise Karim Benzema and the Ligue 1 club.

Ferguson’s admiration for the French sensation is well known, but Aulas has taken exception, claiming the United boss was trying to unsettle the player ahead of their Champions League encounter.

If that was the case, Benzema responded in the best possible way with a fine opener for the French champions, before Carlos Tevez grabbed a priceless away goal for The Red Devils.

Ferguson insists he has only ever stated his admiration for the young striker – and he labelled Aulas ‘mischievous’ for trying to tar his name.

"When you are asked about the quality of a player, you give an honest opinion,” explained the United manager.

"He is a good player. But we have said the same about Juninho, [Hatem] Ben Arfa and [Jeremy] Toulalan.

"I think [Aulas] is being a little bit mischievous. We have never said that we are interested in Benzema.

"I haven't said it yet and I don't say we are interested now."

feck Benzema! if he is not interested... why should we?

calm down, calm down! He cant exactly come out and say "Come and get me?!".

I think Benzema feels like a Rooney type character ... and unlike Ronaldo will committ his heart to whoever he signs for. So let the boy fall in love with United like we all have.

It is a well known fact now that SAF admires him, that Lyon would sell him, and that he like United.... Now just let nature take its course.

When you think about it like that, there can only be one outcome.

Wait till he gets a load of OT on Tuesday night. :D

Walking out of the Tunnel and lookin around to see OT in all its glory might be one of those little factors that help swing his heart in our direction.

We should give him a song just to make him feel at home.

Or just stick with 'Ben Ben Benzema!' The creativity of the French seizes to amaze me.

I'm not sure why you would neccessarily think that. It seems Europe's top clubs are queuing up for him. Lyon will be well aware that if they don't auction him off when interest is high, then clubs will move on to other targets.

Regardless of all he bluster Lyon seem to come out with they've sold their best players every season for years - its just about how much money they can get.

Benzema rejects United talk

Lyon striker Karim Benzema has played down talk linking him with a move to Manchester United saying his preferred destination would be Spain.

Benzema is one of the hottest properties in Europe following his goalscoring exploits for Lyon this season with a number of clubs believed to be chasing his signature.

United have been strongly linked with the French international with Sir Alex Ferguson thought to be a big admirer of the forward.

The 20-year-old, who scored against United in the UEFA Champions League last month, expects to be sold by Lyon at some point, but he admits he would prefer a move to Spain ahead of England.

"My current deal with Lyon finishes in June 2012 but if things keep moving on this good trajectory then I believe I'll be sold at some stage," Benzema told the Daily Mail.

"Like any professional, I think it's great to progress. If we could win the Champions League that would be perfect, then I could leave with a clear conscience.

"In recent months my name has been linked to Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus and now Manchester United have appeared.

"That is high praise and I'm sure I'd be able to play in England. But I believe my style is perhaps better suited for Spain or Italy. I want to experience new tactics and systems. I don't want to play that direct game all the time.

"The president of Lyon has insisted I'm not for sale and has valued me at 90million euros (around £68.6million). That is incredible."

He ain't coming to United, get over it.

Im glad were not going for him, looks like a moody cnut. and too expensive aswell, podolski would be my choice.

benzema hates playing out wide. I don't mind it actually, considering our other two strikers sometimes get sucked into playing deeper and deeper, it would be good to have a player who loves playing on the last shoulder of the defense, centrally, with a nose to score goals. still our first choice and I think we have an honest chance of getting him.

Real Madrid sports chief Pedja Mijatovic regards the signing of Olympique Lyon star Karim Benzema as "impossible".

Mijatovic said: "Benzema is a great player but his team wants him to renew his contract and it will be impossible to prise him out of Olympique Lyon. I see it, frankly, as impossible.

"He's 19 years old, it's his first significant year, has responded very well, and knowing how Olympique work, the idea that they're going to sell such an important player is impossible to see. Surely he's going to renew his contract and in a couple of years become the biggest in the market."

In other words - 'sign another contract at Lyon, then in a few years when Ruud and Raul are gone we'll come back and sign you'.

I honestly can't see us spending whole lot of money on a striker who would be #3 in the picking order

Anyone read the latest Benzema story on SSN?

Aulas sounds like a right cock sucker. Has anyone actually told him Fergie hasn't said feck all about signing Benzema?
