2024 U.S. Elections | Trump wins

I hope I’m wrong but I reckon it’s inevitably Shapiro.

Now she's able to lean into the campaign with their full force now. The Convention lineup should highlight the stark differences in approach, diversity, and platform for Democrats. That should be another bump and momentum boost.

Great pick for Trump.

Watch them label him Bernie 2.0.
Bernie plays great with independents.

The worst thing about this pick is Walz won’t upstage Harris, which might be bad if her approval takes a beating (recession - but it’s a lost cause regardless in that case).

Any pick Harris made would have been labelled the Devil by the Republicans. That's US politics these days.

Walz is also likable, has +20 years with the Army National Guard, is a former teacher and high school football coach, and is endorsed by the country's biggest union. Should be quite a good pick for the Midwest.

Yeah, i don't think that will work, after all, Walz is the guy who labeled Trump and co weird in the first place.

Waltz is a poor pick.

He doesn't look "Presidential". As vacuous as that is, it matters in US Politics.

The right will label him as Bernie 2.0. He doesnt help to bring a state and it pushes Kamala further left.

Kamala has caved to the left and the unions. Probably scared of protests at the DNC. And maybe concerned that Shapiro is "too ambitions".

I guess she does have a thing for old white men though.

Prediction - Kamals loses in 2024 and Whitmer & Shapiro win in 2028.

Shapiro wasn't helping to 'bring a state' either. Dems regularly elected governor there. Beshear more applicable to that reasoning.

Regarding the last bit, if Harris loses (a 50/50 proposition at this point), the likes of Newsom, Shapiro, and Whitmer will come out of this looking very good since they will be the standard bearers of the party going forward.

Why not pick Kelly then? Astronaut. Swing State. Border State. Military service. Married to a gun violence survivor.

The Union endorsement is so overrated, imo. Most of those workers are voting Trump anyway. There not coming home and watching MSNBC.

You make too much out of a VP pick, besides, Shapiro would have been labeled a socialist too.

You mentioned Walz not "looking presidential", well, neither does Mark Kelly, if we are going with perceptions here.

Picking Kelly means potentially losing a seat in the Senate, which may have had some influence. And I thoroughly disagree about the union vote. Unions are powerful, and it's Walz not Kelly that has walked the picket line with them.

R/conservatives attack on Walz pick is literally ‘They hate Jews’.
I wonder why didn’t Trump choose a Jewish running mate in 2024, or 2016?

I also wonder why didn’t Romney and McCain pick Jewish running mates.

If your house is made of glass…

Of course. If she had picked Joe Manchin they would say he was to liberal.

You know the Trump campaign were scared of Shapiro. They were already attacking him. He is a great public speaker. Vance already called him an Obama impersonator, which Shapiro battered down quite brilliantly.

The rule number one, i believe, is pick someone who does no harm, Shapiro could have caused some division within the party, Walz does not.

I think you underestimate Walz, he has a very plain way of speaking, quite reletable i'd say.

Especially if she loses PA by a tiny margin.

If she loses PA, she will probably lose the election, so selecting Walz would obviously come under scrutiny. Fortunately, the Dems still have Shapiro to campaign for her in PA and he has a 90% popularity rating among Dem voters so that will count for a lot.

I think that Walz is a poor pick, he'll be labelled as socialist/commie and is not very photogenic. His talking is also not sophisticated, albeit some might find it very relatable. Thought that Shapiro was a better choice.

If Harris loses, I think Shapiro, Whitmer, Buttigieg and Newson will be the main candidates (my preference is in Whitmer).

Wins over progressives without having to change any policy on Gaza. The fact progressives online are happy about the pick probably means it’s a bad choice for the election.

Basically given the current political climate you can’t afford to lose any part of your base, Biden won Michigan with a 190k margin, more than 100k voted non committed in the primary there. I’d say placating those by not choosing Shapiro is better than the alternative, you don’t win PA you are most likely fecked, but the same applies to MI.

The focus on the VP pick being photogenic is frankly bizarre. Arguably the most photogenic VP pick ever, Sarah Palin, was a complete disaster.

Likewise, despite being a complete weirdo, Vance looks just fine, but its not getting him anywhere.

I just whatsapped my partner along these lines

“Harris has chosen her VP and it’s Walz which is great news all round because he’s the progressive pick. Great news for us and great news for Trump”
