2024 U.S. Elections | Trump wins

Worth a watch?
It's my favourite show ever.

It gives what feels like a genuine insight into what it might be like to work at the heart of the White House and the constant struggle of scrambling to stay afloat let alone get anything done. I learned a lot from it.

But with a really unapologetically unrealistic slant of how everything works out as soon as people come together and hold hands and sing kumbaya. It does tug at my heart strings though.

Gavin visits Michigan to "campaign for Biden"

Michigan of all places…

I must say that I’m starting to fantasize about the idea of Whitmer being president. If not this time, then in the next election. But Whitmer defeating T would be awesome.

I like political stuff but I'd be disappointed about the bolded...

I think you'd be happy if you gave it a chance.

And the good news is that if or when you do watch it and love it, there's something like 7 seasons with 23 episodes in each season.

The guy has become the butt of the joke. He cannot win from this position. He must remove his candidacy.

The Dems are in a serious bind at the moment. Biden is too old and irrevocably damaged following the debate. His VP Kamala Harris is deeply unpopular and yet the Dem party have managed to convince themselves they must give it to her because of race/gender and the idea that she is "next in line". Nevermind the fact that she can't beat Trump and that she is the most unpopular VP since Dan Quayle, who in turn was the most unpopular VP since Aaron Burr.

The elitist clique who run the DNC will be directly to blame once Trump is back in power.

It's distressing and infuriating to watch. Hubris, self interest and haplessness.

Yes.

If Biden drops: no Harris, no Obama and no one from the Obama-Biden era.

They fecked-up in 2016 when Biden should have ran after his VP stint but Obama and DNC felt it was Hillary's time after she lost in the 2008 primaries. Biden beats Trump and we're not where we are today after (likely) eight years, no Trump, no 6-3 bullshit SCOTUS, no Kamala VP as she's not on the radar in 2016, so forth.

The potential downside is had Biden chosen Hillary as VP would she be the DNC "chosen one" for this cycle, or would the primary have produced a Newsom-Whitmer or Whitmer-Newsom ticket for 2024.

Fecking DNC fecked this nation so bad with their 2016 choice because it was "her time" nonsense.

The problem runs deeper than the Obama/Biden crowd. Its more so down to the fact that the party are run by a clan of elites who are out of touch with the public and more interested in emplacing people that fit a specific racial and gender profile instead of someone who can actually win. You see it today in their talking points, where you have DNC operatives suggesting black women are the backbone of Democratic voters and that the party dare not entertain any other Biden replacements other than Harris. If they Dems lose, they will have no one other than the people who run the Dem party to blame.

DNC didn't feck the country, Trump did. Trump is not DNC's responsibility

That's not quite correct. Trump is a symptom of a country that allowed and nurtured the conditions for a corrupt demagogue to rise to power.

Its a process that has been gradually building since the corporate deregulation of the early Reagan years.

This is why Bernie Sanders also rose to prominence during the same period as Trump - to fill a void that traditional political bureaucracies like the DNC and RNC couldn't fill, and is also why populism has suddenly become a viable entry point into American politics.

I guess these aren’t the best polling companies but when was the last time Biden was ahead

Tonight's ABC interview has to be flawless to have a chance, but I suspect his campaign is irreparably damaged. Unless they can somehow make him having senior moments a positive, he will keep putting himself in situations where he damages his image further.

The sentiment this morning feels like he is trying to stay in the race and will use the ABC interview as a reboot. I can't see how anything he says will undo what happened in the debate, but the Dems are truly in an impossible situation between Biden, Harris - both of which don't appear capable of winning; and other candidates who will face an uphill climb to fundraise sufficiently to create ground operations before the gen election. Some states even start early voting as early as late September.

He chose not to as he was dealing with the death of his son

On the bright side, if Democrats choose someone else and they win it would definitely be better than 4 years of Biden

I just can't see it being anywhere near enough. It's what, 15 minutes with a friendly reporter? Rank and file democrats are demoralised. If they're to win they need to recapture some enthusiasm and I don't think there's even the remotest chance of that happening with Biden at the helm.

Yes, that is also true but so is the DNC playing the "his/her time" bullshit, fairly obvious.

Well yes. Since Obama the DNC had been serving the Trump the presidency in a silver platter. in 2020, people couldn't stand Trump anymore, but he had still 70 million people voting for him. The second most votes in US history only after Biden that year. But Trump had more votes than Obama and himself in 2016 in similar size populations

So the DNC has certain amount of responsability, but ultimately, US seems to want trump to be the POTUS. +70 million last time.

As a wise person once said, let us focus on what can be, unburdened by what has been.

feck me he’s only 81? I thought he was like 86 or something.

It is beyond parody at this stage. Democrats have willingly decided to throw up the election.

Looks like he's only gonna make more gaffes.

Thing is he always did, it's just that now he's fecked up that debate he can't get away with anything, and he only makes more mistakes the older he gets so...time to go Joe.

Biden has zero chance at this point. Zero.

As it has been said before, 40k voters across 3 states won the race for Biden in 2020. The margin was razor thin then, and that was when Trump's terrible 4 years was fresh in peoples minds. And also when Biden could speak.

The focus on the race is, and will continue to be, Bidens age, health and fitness for the job. While it should be a referendum on Trump.

Im wondering why you think Harris is incapable of winning?

Beyond being alive in 4 years time, the most important thing the Democrats need in a candidate is someone who can prosecute the case against Trump. Who better than a DA in Harris?

She may not be "likable" but neither was Hillary. But she is without the Hillary baggage. She will be able to turn out African American women, and women who are pro choice.

And most importantly, when put up against Trump, she will be able to get her message across as well as clearly informing the nation of the dangers of four years of Trump and Project 2025. The country is crying out for someone that is not corrupt or old. I think she will seem like a breath of fresh air when you compare her to those two old farts, that people are being forced to choose between.

She's historically unpopular, has been largely shelved into irrelevance as VP, lacks an organic constituency that she could animate to turn out in Nov, and would face a massive uphill battle in the race/gender department If the alternative is Harris, the Dems would be better off by keeping Biden in the race.

Incredible scenes

No matter how well he does in one event, he always finds a way to have a senior moment. If he keeps doing this he will handedly lose the election because of a low voter turn-out- old age, confusion and appearing to be without compassion for Gaza will hurt turn-out. I think the DNC need to find a way to push Newsom big time now.

The problem with Harris is that she appears condescending, uncaring and "trained". That is not very helpful in beating Trump. At the same time it does not fix "the problem" and make the election a referendum on Trump. Pitching the first "black american indian woman president" does not move the focus onto Trump and his failures - you need a traditional candidate to do that.
