2024 U.S. Elections | Trump wins

Heard Disney declined a project that would have added about 2k jobs in the state of Florida.

I guess winning culture wars is more important than having jobs now.

Billion dollar project. I posted a thread somewhere in here that showed how many were going to get screwed by it. I'll try to find it & repost.

God i hope Scott sticks around for a bit. Also looking for Trump to begin ramping up his attacks on DeSantis.

And those were high-paying jobs as well. The average wages for those jobs that are no more were around $120,000.

Did he have on his heels?

And conservatives are all in a tizzy due to attacks on Casey, saying that family is untouchable & Repubs never do such to Dems.

This twat is sending out her husband’s political shit on her personal Twitter, that makes her fair game.

And I guess Repubs conveniently forgot about Michelle Obama.

Is there a gameplan here where DeSantis running and losing is good for him, or is he of the opinion he might win?

He undoubtedly rolls with a coterie of ‘yes’ people who play into his unabashed narcissism & hubris. He thinks he can win, no doubt.

He probably thinks he can win if Trump gets indicted, so he will more than likely be nice to him with the expectation that the law will catch up to Trump before next spring. Trump, on the other hand, views DeSantis as a threat and is already attacking him mercilessly. Should be a fun next 9 months

This would be disappointing. I don't have fantasies of him leaving Trump nursing injuries in the final but I feel a decent portion of the potential for comedy rests upon him giving it a go.

Theresa May got the boot because she was crap with Brexit.
Boris Johnson got pelters for hosting Covid parties and constantly misleading the house and blatatly lying which eventually saw him get the boot too.
Liz Truss got the boot for almost crashing the economy.
Suella Braverman is getting stick for trying to swerve a speed awareness course.

Yet Teflon Don who has been twice impeached, incited an insurrection on the US Capitol, criminally indicted, lied practically everyday as President, cheated on his wife and paid a porn star hush money and shitloads more is still held in such high esteem by so many dumb Americans and given the time of day by US politicians. How is he even running for President again?

Imagine United and Chelsea watching Wreck-It and Fat Frank respectively, two of the worst managers in their recent histories watching them almost burn their clubs to the ground...then locking them in to a 4 year deal as permanent manager. Doesn't make any sense?

Very good analogy.

I also prefer the revolving doors of Japanese and British premiership before tolerating that kind of gross incompetence going the distance of one fixed presidential term at the very least. Any form of moral compass in the GOP completely fecked off ages ago.

Something random I noticed from exit polls, about the "young third party idealists destroying hillary's chances" type of logic from 2016:

Biden got more support among 18-29 than Hillary. And third party support among young people also dropped. So far, all makes sense.
Unfortunately...he got only 1% more, while third party support fell 8%. Which means Trump went up 7% among young people. And Biden lost, on net, 6% margin among 18-29s.

All of that corresponds with the visibly obvious fact that in 2016, the right-wing third party (Gary Johnson) got ~3X more votes than the left-wing (Jill Stein). What centrists should have been doing is thanking the young morons for voting for Johnson, thus denying Trump a popular vote victory and some legitimacy.

Hillary and Chelsea were getting crushed by conservatives and GOP members in the 90s and well beyond Bill's tenure.

I bet his wife is 50% responsible, she probably speaks him up daily ala Ben Affleck in Boiler Room. She probably craves FLOTUS as much as Lil'Ron craves POTUS.

I'm a little but surprised DeSantis actually decided to run. I know he was anointed the saviour of the GOP a while back, but Trump has turned out to be effectively unkillable as far as GOP politics goes, and has been making a fool out of him for months now.

I can definitely see DeSantis winning the primary, but I'm not sure I see Trump or the true Trumpists ever conceding or supporting him in any way. I guess we were all surprised at how easily Jeb Bush-voters or Ted Cruz-voters jumped ship, but those guys aren't Trump. It's going to be brutal. Hopefully.

Am I crazy for thinking this could legitimately ruin his (national) political career for good?

Pretty sure DeSantis is banking on Trump getting taken out by an indictment and possible arrest at some point, at which point the #2 guy will become the nominee. No one else is close to either of these two so in such a scenario, DeSantis would face Biden and given their age disparity, have a pretty good shot at winning.

That doesn't matter, nothing prevents you from running for office in a jail cell, and i'd still hold Trump as clear favorite even if that happens.

Not a chance he would be a meaningful threat to DeSantis from jail. He wouldn't be able to be on social media and his base would look for alternatives.

GOP cowards become friends with each other after elections. Or rather, they kneel to Trump after he fecks them. We saw Rubio and Cruz kissing Trump’s arse after he won, despite that he humiliated and abused them (in case of Cruz calling his wife ugly and his father to have been involved in assassination of JFK).

So even if Trump vs Desantis turns to be ugly, can see Desantis voters going to Trump and vice versa. In case of Desantis I think he is hoping that Trump gets arrested, otherwise no chance the cultists vote for anyone except Trump. Still the hope is that if Trump gets arrested, part of his worshippers stay home on the Election Day.

Of course he would be, at this point its already too late, and he isn't even in jail yet.

The base absolutely loves Trump, its his base, and nobody else's.

Besides, recent poll showed they don't care about electability anyway, they just want to make libs mad, thats literally what the poll showed.

Sometimes there is just no making sense of certain things, they are what they are, it is what it is.

The base actually divested from Trump a bit in the months following the election, which is what allowed DeSantis to pick up momentum for about a year until just a few months ago. Many MAGA types ditched Trump because they viewed him as an unelectable loser with too much baggage. That sentiment is still partially around, so if Trump is viewed as a lame duck, they are going to go for the next best thing. As for DeSantis, he will gradually get battered by Trump to where it will damage him among the GOP base, potentially so much that if he ended up being the nominee, he may not have enough to to rehabilitate himself to a national audience.

But this doesn't support the argument that DeSantis can take him on, quite the opposite.

Trump was the big loser during the midterms, DeSantis the big winner, and look, a couple of months later, the base forgot all about it and went back to Trump.

So yes, i personally believe even if Trump went to prison,he would be the favorite, clear one at that.

We will probably never find out though, the law works slowly, but it would be fun to find out, i guess.

I will say though, if Trump was imprisoned, and DeSantis was 1v1, maybe he would have an okay chance, but the problem is that he is not alone, the field is getting crowded, and that will only favor Trump, as his hardcore base will always stay with him, and that floor is really quite high.

I don't think the mid terms were a referendum on either. DeSantis simply gained gradual ground on Trump after the 2020 defeat and insurrection. It wasn't until DeSantis started tangling with Disney and going overboard on his own wokeness agenda that he started stalling, which Trump capitalized on.
