2024 U.S. Elections | Trump wins

Wouldn't Newsome be a liability with the exwife full trump camp?

Maybe, depends on what she knows I guess? If Newsom has done something stupid or not. I certainly like him a lot.

This aged badly. Remember 24 hours ago when I was derided on here as some "Far Right" lunatic for suggesting that Biden was not fit to lead a Country.

No it didn't. I always maintained that Biden is too old - he's just not "senile". How do you think I got my tag line? I suggested back in 2016 that both Hillary and Trump were too fecking old already then. There should be an age cap at 70 to run for POTUS, in my opinion.

What you need to get is that an ACTUAL senile Democrat is better for the world than ANY Republican. I REALLY wish there were someone other than Biden, but there is simply not at this moment. Ain't that hard.

Why is there such a lack of options in the Democrat ranks?

There are several good options, actually, the bench is good, it's just too late to change anything, dems failed to talk Biden to step down.

There is no way you should just sit there and accept this regardless of the side.

How is it too late? Just bring anyone in, make the change tomorrow.

How the hell can get Trump away with all the lies?
He should have been hit by an electric taser at every lie he spouted.

Unfortunately, Biden isn't fit enough for another 4 years. I dread the upcoming 4 years with an complete idiot in charge of America.

Trump is even less coherent than Biden. Much less
He hasn't changed since 2016 though. It's basically the same Trump. Biden has declined, as observed, per age, and it's evident in the debates. Trump is Trump but you beat him by being consistent and cogent and appealing to that in other people. Biden did that four years ago (also a popular backlash to four years of Trump and a Covid dividend). I don't see him doing that right now. He's lost on stage.

The election is in November plenty of time left to market the new candidate, the stakes are too big to allow Biden to run this time around. The senile grandpa is too up his own arse to admit it, he also surrounded himself with a bunch of yes men.

Very weird. Biden has played completely into the main republican narrative. It's like he put in zero effort whatsoever to try and sound slightly energetic, almost like he went the other way. It was announced beforehand he has a cold, but still.

Any objective view would still put his performance as better than Trump's, because Trump is throwing insane lies with every other word. That's par for the course for Trump though and its already established it doesn't really effect him. Whereas all initial media reactions, even the pro-dem ones, appear to be focusing on Biden's performance.

It'll take a few days for the fact check type reporting to take prominence, but first impressions... damage done.

At least this is an unusually early debate, he can only improve in the later ones when its crunch time.

Biden isn't fit anymore. However, Trump never ever was fit to be president and never will be.

I knew this would happen. What I cannot comprehend is that the Dems didn't know it a year ago when everyone else watching Biden clearly did. Trump wins the debate by default mostly for the reasons you cite. Expectations.

Oh I know that and 100% agree. Trump got worse though but he went from 90% shit to 95% shit. Biden went from 30% to 80%. I have no numbers or facts to back it up...just in case someone ask

I dont see a path for Trump not winning this. Maybe if he dies. But or Ds makes Biden to step down and brind someone truly great of trump would be the 45-47 POTUS

Jsut watched the highlights, and that was way worse than I expected. And my expections were already very low.

America is doomed.

It'd be super interesting to see how it would go. There would be two problems with it. First, the narrative of not selecting Harris would be a challenge. Logically Biden's VP would make most sense, but she isn't really popular. Second, it could be seen as undemocratic, because there is no time for a new primary process. Technically Dean Phillips is second in the ongoing primary process (after "Uncommitted"), but no way in hell he's going to beat Trump.

The DNC would have to step in and select Gavin Newsom, in my opinion, to maximize their chances of winning. But I have no idea what kind of power they have to do that, or what process would be needed.

It will be a massacre if the dems switch him out now. It's basically free GOP propaganda. The time to do it was last year.

I somewhat agree. definitely the time was last year. But right now, Biden has lost. if you already lost, changing is the only way, but as you said, will be a carnage presenting Trump as winning over the democrats that are desperate to beat Trump

trapped between a rock and a hard place

Best thing to happen to the deluded Democrats, a wake up call 'cause they were sleep-walking into a new Trump term.

If Biden did well in the debate, he'd still get thrashed in November.

Was always a risk to have him debate against Trump but to feck it up that badly is quite something

Was this all just a great play from the DNC?

They set this up as Biden's public execution. Nomination is coming up next month so they can easily replace him with Newsom. Give themselves a better chance of beating Trump in November.

Trump should have declined the debate until after the DNC nomination.

Biden is going to lose to a felon. Biden's ego has fecked Dems.

Dems fecked the Dems. he didn't forced no one. Dems went for the winning card of an incumbent and his closest people that surrounds him and the people who owns favours for the second term pushed for it because they would lose themselves power. Biden is to blame too, but if he would be alone on that and the dems would be clear on who to support to the primaries, that would never happened. And yes, going for the incumbent is what is normal, but the public signs where obvious 1 year ago and they probably saw it even earlier

I thought the 2 choices in the UK were bad, but looking at the US.....

No. Biden is the DNC's pick. They, and the entire apparatus around him, have been micro managing his presidency from the off. Whatever happens, it wasn't some Machiavellian scheme. If they switch him out, they'll lose. If they keep him in, they're going to probably lose. Depends on the undecided voters which are ticking in Trump's favour prior to this debate.

The man has lost it, he has trouble eating his salad.

Sadly, it's not about intent or lack of effort, he just don't have the capacity anymore.

He can't barely string a coherent sentences for the love of god

No. This was a worst case scenario for the dems. Horrific performance.
