2024 Summer Olympics (Paris)

Yeah, exactly. I’m particularly bitter because my favourite sport, climbing, was only allocated two medals in total last olympics, one men and one woman’s. Climbing has three very clearly distinct disciplines so they had to combine them into a single event, which was a mess. The equivalent of making a runner perform well in a 100m sprint, a 5km run and a marathon to win a medal.

This time round they four medals, so only have to combine two of three disciplines. Which is less shit but still not ideal. I think there’s over 30 medals available in the swimming. Almost always won by privileged white athletes. Give them medals for men and for women over all the various distances but breast-stroke, butterfly and backstroke can feck off.
Feck off with that. The only problem with swimming at the olympics is they don't have enough races. Should do the 50m for every style too, not just free style

The IOC have been town deaf with some decisions, like the planned removal of wrestling. It seems to favour sports which require a lot of money to be good in

Anyway in the boxing there have been four British fights and four defeats.

They have to, because there’s a million different events. It’s kind of mad how many different types of swimming they give medals for. Like having medals for the 100m running race, walking race, crawling race and hopping race.
The world is 71% water Pogue, how many % mountains is it?

I rest my case.

Jackie Young, Kelsey Plum and Diana Taurasi are in Paris, but not Caitlin Clark. That continues to bother me.

(And I know all the explanations of why Clark was left off team USA).

Also: women’s beach volleyball is great at the Olympics. Love it.

At this point I’m convinced football at the olympics should be 6v6 on a full sized pitch with 15 minute halves and no offsides. It’d be amazing.

I don’t believe you. Indoor cycling is an AI generated fiction. No human would invent a sport so boring and confusing. Have you seen the one where they start off cycling really really slowly? What the feck is that all about?

I remember watching a few events when GB were winning everything and understanding none of it but it seemed exciting.

Boxing pretty much one of the worst sports in the Olympics, full of ridiculous decisions with no explanation
The helmets are a huge problem. You hardly ever get knockouts or knockdowns so nearly all the results are decided by the idiot judges. Then again, without the helmets it's probably unsafe for people to go through so many full throttle fights in such a short space of time.

7/8 aside cage football instead of the 11's, most fun format of the sport to play in my experience.

Imagine watching team GB winning everything in a sport you don’t understand from an Irish perspective and then tell me how exciting that is.

A velodrome is incredibly fun to ride on.

It’s 0% velodromes, that’s for sure. So let’s bin all the indoor cycling bollocks anyway. Another bugbear of mine. Also horse riding. Unless they start awarding the medals to the horses.
Yeah, the horse stuff can pheck right off. I don't care how much of an olympic legacy sport it is.

Swimming and track cycling are literally the best sports. Like there'd be no point to the olympics having any sport other than track and field and wrestling without those

They’re not using head guards. They changed the point scoring so it’s not computerised any more. I felt like it was better previously for amateur boxing. Everyone knew who was winning and there was less chance of bullshit judging.

Only issue with a European Olympics is that I can't just bang it on late at night and watch random as feck sports.

The referees are trash; the final match was ruined by some….cnu…i.…ts. Macchi deserved the win.

I'm furious; this is a disgrace to the world of sports officiating.

This is why some people are losing faith in sports like boxing or fencing. These incompetent referees are ruining the sport.

I’m talking about one of the best finals in foil fencing that is ruined by something ridiculous.

Agree with the 50 m ideas for every stroke. In the world championship, they’ve been done that for a long time. Some of the biggest swimmers in the world are only specialist in 50m too( not sure about that but I remember the one from Australia).
