Not bad, about 40-50% for me. She did the 1500 / 10k double in Doha at the Worlds two years ago. I think her biggest challenge of the three will be the 1500 as Kipyegon is the favourite with a marginally faster PB. They’ve traded wins against each other in the last two months so it’s really up in the air. The way Hassan ran away from the field in the 5k today was impressive and suggests she’s on her game. Nailing the tactics will make the difference as there’s likely to be no more than a metre or two between them. I’d expect her to win the 10k to be honest given her championship pedigree and tactical acumen. Again though some tough competition and we are into uncharted territory with the cumulative fatigue of so many races.
One thing in her favour though are the new spikes, which are much more cushioned than traditional track spikes, and won’t batter the legs as much as the old skimpy ones. For instance even when Gebreselassie held both 5k and 10k world records, he never doubled up at major championships and even struggled just to do the 10k given the unprecedented hardness of the tracks at Atlanta in 1996. So it’s tricky to assess yet but we could see more double or triple efforts in the future.
Long jump and triple jumps... Cant they just deduct the foul from the final distance jumped...
why though? It adds difficulty and gives that discipline a very important aspect
It's not really about who can jump the furthest. It's who can just the furthest from a designated point.
Hyped for 400m hurdles early in the morning. Warholm vs Benjamin. Decent chance we'll see a new WR.
I knew it was a WR but did not realise how big a deal it was , first man to run under 46 seconds
WOW record stood for 29 years and then broken 4 times in 4 weeksdos Santos got bronze with 46.72, Just a month ago that would have been a world record. Currently the fastests runs are:
The record stood for almost 30 years, then it just got decimated.
- 45.94. Karsten Warholm. 03.08.2021.
- 46.17. Rai Benjamin. 03.08.2021.
- 46.70. Karsten Warholm. 01.07.2021.
- 46.72. Alison dos Santos. 03.08.2021.
- 46.78. Kevin Young. 06.08.1992.
So so close. Looked like they were miles ahead only to finish just centimeters ahead of Germany. Tough to read the race as an absolute noviceI don't normally watch sailing, but that medal race was amazing. Unbelievably tight finish.
Ahah, i woke up juuuust in time to catch it liveI didn't see the 400m hurdles live, I was foolish enough to be asleep, but that was an extraordinary race. Even the bronze medalist below the old WR time. Warholm taking near enough a second off his own record and breaking 46 seconds - amazing run.
Winner!Ahah, i woke up juuuust in time to catch it live
That 400m hurdles new world record is outrageous, can’t see it being beaten for decades.
Warholm is still pretty young.
I suppose he could lower it himself if the conditions are right.
You have such an amazing batch of young athletes coming through, both in athletics as in triathlon.Karsten fecking Warholm you absolute beast
Could have been broken yesterday as well, had a few of them not jogged in the final 10-15m after securing a place in the finalsUnder 46" at 400m hurdles is crazy, that's getting close to the PR of some regular 400m guys at the Olympics
Good chance the WR also gets broken at the women's 400m hurdles with Bol or McLaughlin.

Think he could. Guy is a machine.
Think the leader tires more due to giving the other teammates a tow in the slipstream. So you share the burden. Why do they switch the leader in the velodrome races? I get that they want them to set the pace but surely the person who goes back to fourth has to keep up regardless.
The one at the front uses a lot more energy, the others are in the slipstream of that rider. They go back for a bit of a rest. Why do they switch the leader in the velodrome races? I get that they want them to set the pace but surely the person who goes back to fourth has to keep up regardless.
Makes a big difference whether you're in first or fourth place, if you keep the same person first throughout they're gonna tire a lot earlier and can't keep the same pace for the entire race. It's an extra push to get back into the wheel of the third person but once you're there it gets a lot easier to follow (and rest up your legs insofar possible). Why do they switch the leader in the velodrome races?
