2021 American Civil War

So depressing. How do you even begin to fix that country?
Trying to answer this seriously for a second, maybe America really is fundamentally broken right now, and maybe you need to look at other countries that have had an internal conflict to fix it...

Remove the power of the President to elect new members of the Supreme Court - and instead require a cross-community vote from the senate. cross-community vote from the senate. (probably needs to be balanced first, maybe three chosen by democrats, three by republicans and three cross-community)?

Term limits for senators?

What do you anticipate, peaceful protests or violence?

They are going to be emboldened by the pathetic response in the capitol. The problem is I think (hope?) that was a one off. If they try that again heads are going to get cracked or people are going to get shot. No matter how many of them there are, their numbers (the "die hard" weekend warriors who would actually try something) will never be close to the National Guard troops and cops that will likely be around.

That seems so dangerous, I fail to imagine people not realizing that they are playing with their lives.

that is why Wed was so dangerous. They literally got away with it. If they had been met like the BLM protestors had they would have melted.

Two Capitol Police suspended. And probably one arrested.

10 capitol police under investigation too

Is it that the defenders and the stormers seem to know each other well, like they work together?

Exactly as Capitol Police is involved and two suspended and even one may have been arrested and 10 under investigation.

The bolded has to be the starting point. No court of law should be partisan or be manipulated by whoever is in power. Just taking that away would be a huge safety net in the future and without it there is going to be a danger that a president can do whatever they want.

It’s getting harder and harder to see a way back for America.

As already pointed out by others, the soft approach by the authorities on Wednesday will likely have encouraged the deplorables to make another and possibly more violent run at it.

And then when Biden has been sworn in, how do they even move forward when so many think he’s an illegtimate President because they are in a cult and the other republicans are grifting cowards.

The armed protests probably won't be much but sadly i can forsee a few seperate lone gunman incidents. This stuff will trigger someone with mental health issues and they'll go on a rampage.

It's going to be bad in WI and MI for sure, maybe PA. Both states are essentially diffused Alabama's with concentrated big blue cities. These states were battleground states and have Dem governors and republican legislatures. It's gonna be bad.

Don't think you can , not when states can determine their curriculum and intelligent design is taught at schools.

It's not wrong to have a decentralised education system - in fact there are several advantages to it. And if you have a centralised system - what happens if a non-benign federal government comes to control it all?

And there's nothing wrong with teaching awareness of the concept of intelligent design. After all, who are you (or anyone) to say that Universe is definitely and merely a product of random chaos and caused solely by reductionist, material processes? Indeed, some prominent physicists believe that the the Universe appears to be closer to being the product of a single thought than anything else.

The problem arises when the concept of intelligent design spills over into an anti-science "creationism" and a literal translation of the Bible, with the earth allegedly being created in a literal 7 days and allegedly being only a few thousand years old.

The way back is that more and more Americans will be repulsed by the violence and violence mongering of Trumpites. Already Trump now has his lowest ever positive ratings, by far.

The GOP is fecked - now divided and and increasingly repellant to more and more Americans - and will be out of Presidential power for a generation. The Trumpite base will increasingly be a busted flush, albeit a small minority of them will probably engage in long-term descent into far-right domestic terrorism.

Why don't the GOP support to impeach him? Then he is out of the picture for ever. His hardcore support base alone is not going to win him any election. If the Dems feck up, with him out of the scene anyone of them has a chance.

Committing to Trump costs them the votes of moderate people, committing against Trump costs them votes from a large chunk of their base. So the plan is probably to sit this one out until Trump has to leave office anyway.

For the senate yes. For the house? Most of those feckers are batshit.

So apparently the head of the Republican AG association has stepped down as the group sent out calls calling on people to march on DC on the 6th. That's abominable and all, but ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to the 8th wonder of the world:

Looks like Eric Trump's rejected offspring

I would be surprised if nothing further happened, but i really can't see a mass event either. The majority when faced with a significant number of actual armed guards, I would think are likely to back away fairly quickly, and just shout from a distance.

Were I would see the risk, would be lone attacks against 'enemy' democrats as the year goes on.

I wont bank on it. They're not going to really start up barricade and start actually shooting. But all it takes is just one looney to start hurting a senator or someone important and escalate from there.

Probably will be mass protests in red states. If they come to Trenton they will be easily dealt with by the locals I would think.

Physical wise any insurrection are easy to handle, nobody wins against the US military or even US police if they wanted to.

But trump sadly has taken everyone hostage, he's using his Maga troops to stir up chaos, if the LEO start taking strict measures and employ a shoot on the spot beyond certain lines what long term damage it does? Depicted across the world in every MSM US military firing on their own citizen. And those Maga Nutters aren't going to just back off, they'll back off but disgruntled and forever nagging on whoever president that wasn't Trump.

At this rate, the fight between 2 america, whoever wins Americans lose

And we don't know how widespread the ideology is, even in live Camera there's a DC police that's stupid enough to take selfie with the Protester, even the likes of Senator are openly supporting the insurrection. I have no doubt that there will be MAGA supporter on every level of the government, and what damage they could do, from simple insubordination to a full blown blocking crucial resources.
