brilliant stuff, thanks. I read a summary of the freezing truck driver case and wrote gorsuch off as a textualist hypocrit.

do you see Roberts voting with the majority always now in order to write the opinions as narrowly as possible on key subjects?

seen this media narrative loads (so not having a go at you). I find it both lazy and inaccurate
Thank you for this. This falls in line mostly with what my sister (a corporate attorney) has said. I will need to read her your take on Alito as she will get a kick out of it (very in line with her thoughts). He take on Kavanaugh, once you get past the disgusting nature of the man, is that he is also a partisan hack. She cited his flip flopping back and forth on whether a president can be sued from Clinton to Bush to Obama to Trump. I bet you can guess when he flipped and when he flopped.
Glad to see I’m not totally full of shit and at least your sister agrees :)

I should add the presence of 3 justices who worked for Bush’s cause in 2000 being on the Supreme Court now in Roberts, Kavanaugh, and ACB (not including Thomas who voted for the Rehnquist concurrence, and Alito who is shite) is potential cause for concern.

I think both are possible pick ups, I just didn't have enough confidence in my ability to read them (and their turnouts) to decide one way or another. That said, this is silly season and everybody is so reactionary to polls and stuff, the needle is jumping all over the place.

The fear of the 'shy trump' vote is instilling quite a bit of paranoia though; that could make people vote who would otherwise slack.

The other big problem for Texas is Abbott, and what will happen on election day. Registration deadlines, ID, Limited voting options. Makes it a hostile environment. The dems simply haven't put many boots on the ground in terms of effort and infrastructure too, so its tough.

This is a good point and one I hadn't considered, Abbott is definitely going to work hard to keep TX red.

You should hear her disdain for Thomas

I have a Macallan 25 (1971/1997) for if all goes well. Plenty of baileys for the caffeine+sugar rush (try it instead of milk when you steam up your cappuccino) - If it all goes to shit I'll be broke, so drowning in Belvedere pretty much
Very nice. I will start with Goose Island IPA complemented by Casamigos and then in to some Basil Hayden to hopefully toast a victory. If it all goes to shit it will be an old gram of coke so I can sell the wife a lovely life in New Zealand.

I read somewhere that Scalia believed the devil was walking around whispering in people's ears. Is this true?

Beautiful whisky, that.

I have a bottle of Vimto in my fridge.

If that’s the interview I think it is, there’s a bit about his grandfather getting too old to hunt, so he would hang out next to Scalia’s uncle’s vegetable patch with a shotgun and shoot the rabbits when they showed up there. It’s a bizarre read.

but yes, Scalia was staunchly religious and then came with all the baggage it can come with.

I have a sinking feeling that the result will drag on for weeks, and somehow the Reoublicans will pull a rabbit out of a hat(EC/SCOTUS). Extremely pessimistic.

You believe in heaven and hell?
Oh, of course I do. Don’t you believe in heaven and hell?

No.
Oh, my.

Does that mean I’m not going?
[Laughing.] Unfortunately not!

Wait, to heaven or hell?
It doesn’t mean you’re not going to hell, just because you don’t believe in it. That’s Catholic doctrine! Everyone is going one place or the other.

But you don’t have to be a Catholic to get into heaven? Or believe in it?
Of course not!

Oh. So you don’t know where I’m going. Thank God.
I don’t know where you’re going. I don’t even know whether Judas Iscariot is in hell. I mean, that’s what the pope meant when he said, “Who am I to judge?” He may have recanted and had severe penance just before he died. Who knows?

Can we talk about your drafting process—
[Leans in, stage-whispers.] I even believe in the Devil.

You do?
Of course! Yeah, he’s a real person. Hey, c’mon, that’s standard Catholic doctrine! Every Catholic believes that.

Every Catholic believes this? There’s a wide variety of Catholics out there …
If you are faithful to Catholic dogma, that is certainly a large part of it.

Have you seen evidence of the Devil lately?
You know, it is curious. In the Gospels, the Devil is doing all sorts of things. He’s making pigs run off cliffs, he’s possessing people and whatnot. And that doesn’t happen very much anymore.

No.
It’s because he’s smart.

So what’s he doing now?
What he’s doing now is getting people not to believe in him or in God. He’s much more successful that way.

That has really painful implications for atheists. Are you sure that’s the Devil’s work?
I didn’t say atheists are the Devil’s work.

Well, you’re saying the Devil is persuading people to not believe in God. Couldn’t there be other reasons to not believe?
Well, there certainly can be other reasons. But it certainly favors the Devil’s desires. I mean, c’mon, that’s the explanation for why there’s not demonic possession all over the place. That always puzzled me. What happened to the Devil, you know? He used to be all over the place. He used to be all over the New Testament.

Right.
What happened to him?

He just got wilier.
He got wilier.

Isn’t it terribly frightening to believe in the Devil?
You’re looking at me as though I’m weird. My God! Are you so out of touch with most of America, most of which believes in the Devil? I mean, Jesus Christ believed in the Devil! It’s in the Gospels! You travel in circles that are so, so removed from mainstream America that you are appalled that anybody would believe in the Devil! Most of mankind has believed in the Devil, for all of history. Many more intelligent people than you or me have believed in the Devil.

I hope you weren’t sensing contempt from me. It wasn’t your belief that surprised me so much as how boldly you expressed it.
I was offended by that. I really was.

+ 3 in Texas for a Dem Presidential candidate is still pretty good, especially given that Hillary lost by 9 in 2016.

@owlo

This is a neat chart from BBC, updated daily, that shows the election deciding states.
They have Texas going to Trump? Ohio, Georgia and Arizona and North Carolina look too close to call

538 forecast now has Biden at 57 in 100 chance of winning Georgia. Some very good polls there for Biden in the last two days.

Didn’t get an alert for some reason, but one of; Woodford Reserve, Elijah Craig Small Batch, Knob Creek Small Batch, Four Roses Single Barrell, or if things go well I might go for the Wild Turkey Rare Breed.

Macallan 25, wow!

Its nice to see how the upper crust lives.

I got a 40 of 8-ball and a half smoked joint from 2 years ago on tap.

I mean, what sort of dumb motherfcuker buys this shit?

"As long as I am President, America will never be a socialist country.......

Fascist? Well, let's see, no one knows more about fascism than me."

The ice cream really doesn't fit in with the overall theme.

What is this? Where’s it from? It reads annoyingly familiar.

Now, I'm no political strategist, but does anyone think retweeting this might be a sign of desperation

Apparently this idiot, for one.
