What's the point of a constitution or free and fair democratic elections if one side won't accept them?

Even if they do concede now the damage has been done and at least a third of the country won't accept it was fair. If that's not terrifying and extremely dangerous then I have no idea what is.

Would like to see this overlaid with the GDP of each block: Red vs not red.
No hes still going to try and declare martial law and roll tanks over the constitution (avenue) before the electoral college votes on 14th December

 That grifter refused to hold a gun when given a chance, instead he took 5 deferments. Now he’s going to hold one?

Rudy Giuliani: Election workers treated USB drives like 'vials of heroin or cocaine'

Yeah, I hope you guys and 'experts' are right.

Even for a distant observer like me, its dragged on for far too long, on next to no base
It certainly has dragged on interminably, no doubt. It probably looks crazy to an outsider. As a native, it’s been a tad disconcerting as well.

This was never going to be a Republican success from a finite perspective of SCOTUS resources. While there always would be an element of fast tracking a hearing in front of SCOTUS, there’s now only nine hours left of SCOTUS business hours before Monday AM, the day the Electoral College votes for Biden. There’s simply been no suitable amount of time to mount an effective case by the right. Then toss in the fact that it would be unprecedented & unconstitutional for SCOTUS to change the date for the Electoral College to vote, especially with no credible evidence at all, you get the current climate.

This is coming from a ‘non-expert’ in myself. I am certain actual lawyers on here could easily & more clearly expound on the frivolity of this current iteration of Republican lunacy.

It's not even about winning in the courts or overturning an election. It's about fundraising off the ignorant and keeping their place on the government teet. It's not even a debate now, conservative Republicans are fascist simpletons.

I wonder if there are people out there who still don't think this is a coup attempt. It's not going to work, but it's an attempt all the same.
Can it be a coup attempt if it is undertaken by the ruling party?

If there’s not a different possible definition, then we are definitely seeing a coup, one of a little slower of motion.

It can definitely be a coup when it's the outgoing ruling party. Plenty of history's coups have come in the wake of defeats for the ruling party. Though even if it wasn't outgoing it could still be a coup, it's not a very strict definition.

Gotcha. Never heard of a more specific definition myself.

A coup it certainly is.

It is a coup attempt and every sane person in the US has been calling it that for weeks now.

Its also to placate Trump so his koolaid drinking base show up in the GA elections next month. If they don't the Dems will probably win both seats and take the Senate.

This Texas thing does have a different vibe around it than the rest. So far, it's been Trump's bumbling amateurs providing ultra-poor evidence in the courts, and everyone stayed far away. This isn't actually very different in terms of content, but with 20(?) states on board and all these congressmen and women, the case takes on quite a different form. Once it's tossed unceremoniously by the court because of the crap it is, what are they going to do? 'OK, too bad, moving on.'

Well, I hope so, but they seem to be building this up into something they won't just let go off so easily.

Or it's this; a show of support for Trump to get him onside for the Georgia run-offs. Extremely shallow and a waste of taxpayer money, but still better than what I was getting it.

Obviously they're going to use it as a pretext for ever greater voter suppression going forward. It's a slow moving coup attempt which they hope will come to fruition by 2024.

Is there anything legal they aren't already trying? I mean, I didn't get the impression the republicans were holding back as it was...

I think he’ll ramp up the rhetoric on Twitter with his base & things could get violent. No chance he’s going to back down having said so much already & there’s too many who either believe this bullshit or are enabling him to get away with it because they’re terrified he’ll turn on them.

Hope I’m wrong, but he is an absolute thundercnut who is not going to go away quietly.

What's next? Smashing into reality time after time hasn't stopped them yet, they just get dumber/crazier each time.

When do we think a Trump tweet comes out about the "2nd amendment people" needing to get involved?

After a soft coup fails, you can either give in (hopefully) or actually go the violence rout. And it seems some of his cultists are more than happy for the violent route.
